Verity:
Continuation Of Flashback:
"Wait, what? No, he never did that."
I quickly defended my brother, but she clenched her jaw, looking me up and down.
"Your brother has been nothing but brutal toward my daughter. And you’re acting like you have no clue," she hissed, making me immediately tear up.
Whenever somebody yelled at me, I would start crying.
But right now, I needed help.
So if I cried, it would seem like I was trying to make myself look like the victim when she had clearly said her daughter was the victim.
"There has to be a misunderstanding. But right now, my brother really is dying. Once he gets better, I will ask him what the truth is."
I had to say it, even though I knew I didn’t need to question my brother.
My brother had done nothing wrong.
There was no way I could admit he had abused her.
I was the third person around them almost all the time, and not once did I feel like my brother was doing something so heinous to her, nor had Gigi ever said anything that would make me think he was.
"Who is it?"
Gavin Hill came out, and I immediately got up from the couch.
He was harsh. So harsh that, at times, I would just want to stop existing.
The minute he came out and looked at me, he grunted. He was wearing a white shirt and white shorts.
The man walked over to his wife, then stepped in front of her with his hands on his waist.
"What the fuck is this fat bitch doing here?" he yelled, causing Stella to turn to him.
She told him everything, including that I needed money.
And I could already tell I wasn’t going to get any help from the way he looked me up and down.
He walked all the way around the table, making me step back from him, and then stopped only a foot away from me.
It was so intimidating.
"Go back to your room," he said to his wife.
"But I think we should just let her go," Stella tried to say, maybe defending me or giving me a chance to escape.
"I said, go to your room and bring Oliver downstairs," he demanded, his eyes staring deep into mine.
"I, I will leave. I understand."
I quickly changed my mind because I realized I wasn’t going to get any help from here.
Besides, why was he calling his son?
He knew his son hated me and would always bully me. He would do it in front of him too.
As I tried to sidestep the man, Mr. Gavin extended his arm, blocking me from moving away.
"Please, Mr. Gavin, let me go," I pleaded.
Tears had started to spill from my eyes while he stood so close that I could practically smell his cologne.
"Why? Don’t you wanna pay for your brother’s operation?"
There was mockery in his tone.
He then stepped back just enough to give me a full once-over. And I noticed the sneer on his face.
"Although you’re not very attractive, standing before you as a father who had to watch his daughter cry, I feel very angry," he said, pointing at his chest as he began to move farther away from me while making sure I was still in his line of sight.
"What is it, Dad?"
Oliver came downstairs wearing only black shorts. When his eyes landed on me, he immediately charged in my direction.
"You fucking slut! You dared to come here after what your brother did to my sister?"
He rushed over, and before I could react, his hard hand struck my cheek.
I dropped to the floor and expected another hit, but his father grabbed him and pulled him away from me.
"Dad, come on, don’t stop me today. She’s the one who knew what her brother was doing, and she didn’t stop him, so why should we not torture her?" Oliver began to reason with his father.
I started to shiver, quickly getting to my knees before trying to move away from them.
I grabbed my purse and rushed toward the door, but the warrior stopped me.
"You cannot leave," the warrior said, with a smile playing on his lips.
He then looked behind me.
I shakily followed his gaze to the father and son and found them standing there, their hands on their waists, watching me.
"You can only leave after we say so," Gavin said, a smile slowly tugging at his lips.
This time, even Oliver looked like he strongly agreed with whatever his father had said to him.
"I don’t want money," I said, drawing my shoulders together.
"You’re not getting any either. Unless—" Gavin uttered as he pointed at me.
Then he pointed at the spot next to the couch.
"No," I said, shaking my head in refusal.
"Why, do you not want to help your brother? We’ll pay you money. All you have to do is help a father and son feel a little relieved for taking a stand for their daughter and sister," Mr. Gavin stated, once again pointing toward the spot.
I turned around to look at the warrior and then back at them.
"Listen, I need to hurry. My brother’s in really bad condition," I pleaded, but they started shaking their heads.
Whoever I looked at would just shake their head.
"Please," I begged, but Mr. Gavin still pointed at the spot.
"You will get the money, and your brother will be saved. Can’t you do that much for your brother?"
When he put it that way, I felt like I had no other option but to follow his command.
And the next thing I knew, I was standing on the spot he had told me to.
"Now, if you do what I say, I’ll pay you."
The fact that it was Mr. Gavin saying all that while his son just stood next to him with a pleased look on his face made the situation even more terrifying.
"Strip."
That was all he said, making the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
