Chapter 360: Chapter 360: Passage

Even if Ye Ming told her to go, Shi Lan was unwilling to leave.

It wasn’t for any other reason. After learning that Dr. Ai and their group had also orchestrated He Hanshi’s spiritual power collapse on the Capital Star, she was worried Ye Ming would face the same danger.

She could heal spiritual power collapses. ’I have to watch over him carefully.’

And so, while neither said much, both were intent on protecting the other. Their hands remained tightly clasped.

Ye Ming and Shi Lan followed a group of subordinates down the underground passage. Leo and two other researchers exchanged a glance and couldn’t resist following them.

Everyone has a curious side, especially researchers like them. A powerful sense of curiosity was essential to uncovering new possibilities in their work.

The passage wasn’t dark; it was well-lit, just very long. The descent down the stairs alone took several minutes.

At the bottom of the stairs was another long corridor.

At the end of the corridor was an elevator.

The group walked over and opened the elevator doors. There were too many of them for the elevator to hold, so they had to go in batches. Ye Ming, holding Shi Lan’s hand, went in the first group with a dozen of his subordinates who had the highest spiritual power.

The elevator had only a single button. It seemed they had gone beyond the area he had access to, and he didn’t have the clearance to operate it.

Fortunately, one of his subordinates was an expert in this field. Ye Ming looked at the man, who stepped forward. The subordinate retrieved the necessary equipment from his Space Chain and tapped a complex sequence of characters onto the chip. A few minutes later, the two words "Reset Complete" appeared on the elevator’s display. He then pressed the button, and the elevator began to move.

Shi Lan glanced over in astonishment, whispering to Ye Ming, "He’s that skilled?"

Ye Ming smiled. "Yes. I’m the Eldest Prince. Of course I have to gather capable people."

It wasn’t just his group; the subordinates who entered through the other ventilation duct also included people with such skills.

In truth, he knew a little about this himself, but every field has its specialists, and he was no match for his subordinate. If he had been forced to crack it, it would have taken him much longer.

There was no telling how deep the shaft was; in any case, the elevator ran for nearly ten minutes before stopping.

As before, the subordinates exited first, while Ye Ming and Shi Lan stayed back.

Once outside, everyone was instantly on high alert.

Shi Lan sized up the familiar environment before her, and suddenly froze, saying, "Ye Ming, I think this is the place where I was held captive."

The decor inside was identical to what she had seen when she escaped.

’It’s a good thing I didn’t try to escape using the elevator,’ she thought. ’I might have been delivered right to Dr. Ai. More importantly, I probably wouldn’t have even been able to start it.’

Ye Ming’s eyes darkened. He squeezed her hand tighter and said softly, "Lanlan, stay close to me."

Then, he issued a cold command to his other subordinates, "All units, maintain level-one alert."

Level one represented the highest degree of danger. Though the subordinates were prepared, they hadn’t expected His Highness to declare it right from the start.

However, they didn’t panic. They nodded immediately and advanced steadily in formation.

Seemingly sensing their arrival, the first patrolman soon appeared. Before he could react, the group swiftly fired and knocked him unconscious.

Even the military wasn’t permitted to carry lethal weapons indiscriminately, but this stun effect would likely last for two to three hours.

Ye Ming also handed Shi Lan a gun, but after Shi Lan showed him the gun that He Hanshi had given her, Ye Ming temporarily put his own away.

The gun from He Hanshi was better suited for Lanlan; it was more responsive and had higher firepower.

He wasn’t the type to get needlessly jealous. On the contrary, he was grateful that He Hanshi had been so thoughtful as to provide Shi Lan with such a weapon. Her safety was more important than anything.

As the team advanced deeper, the number of unconscious figures on the ground grew, but their presence was eventually discovered. The underground base’s alarms blared incessantly. Gradually, a number of males began to surround them, Donald among them.

Spotting Shi Lan in the crowd, Donald sneered, "You’ve got some nerve. You were lucky to escape, for a female, yet you dare to come barging back in with reinforcements."

However, while Donald disliked Shi Lan, he also felt a certain admiration for her. She truly was an unusually bold female. A pity, then, that her encounter with them was destined to end in misfortune.

As Donald spoke, his gaze fell on Ye Ming. ’Heh, the Eldest Prince is here too.’

’The men sent last time failed to take his life. This time, the opportunity has fallen to me.’

Alarm bells went off in Shi Lan’s mind. She warned everyone, "Be careful of his Talent Skill! He can pull people into a separate space."

Shi Lan had told Ye Ming about this long ago, and he had in turn warned his subordinates. But she still felt uneasy, so she repeated the warning.

But even with their mental preparation, they were still pulled into Donald’s Domain.

Of course, his Domain couldn’t hold an infinite number of people—five at most. But for a better chance to kill Ye Ming, he pulled only him inside, leaving Shi Lan separated.

Though he considered Shi Lan formidable, he ultimately looked down on her as a mere female and simply ordered others to capture her quickly.

After Ye Ming suddenly disappeared, Donald followed into his own Domain. The subordinates present all panicked for a moment when they saw Ye Ming vanish.

The Eldest Prince was the heir apparent; his status was immensely important and noble. If he were to lose his life on their watch, none of them would be allowed to live.

Leo and the later batches of subordinates also grew uneasy.

Shi Lan spoke up at the crucial moment. "Everyone, calm down! Have faith in your Eldest Prince. He will be fine. What’s important now is to defeat the people here."

Her words did indeed have a calming effect on the group. After all, she was the Eldest Prince’s wife, and her words carried nearly as much weight as his. With her present, they had a pillar to rally around.

The subordinates immediately charged forward, engaging the enemy. Leo and a few others quietly took up positions around Shi Lan. With the Eldest Prince gone, they had an even greater duty to protect his wife—not to mention that protecting females was a fundamental mission for all males.

The males in the underground base hadn’t expected Ye Ming to bring so many people. Furthermore, the reinforcements who had come through the ventilation ducts heard the commotion and closed in, creating a pincer attack.

Ye Ming’s men were all elites; the subordinates he had selected all had A-level spiritual power or higher. The personnel in the underground base, however, were a mixed bag. Their spiritual power levels varied greatly; while there were many at A-level, there were also quite a few at the BC Level.

They were inevitably at a disadvantage. As the fight wore on, they saw Leo’s group diligently protecting Shi Lan and began to use psychological warfare.

"Why are you protecting a female? Haven’t females used their monopoly on healing abilities to oppress us males for long enough?"

"Why should females be the superior sex? We males must rise up! We’ve had enough of this oppression!"

"What gives them the right to be so high and mighty? Why do they only favor males with high spiritual power? Why do they get to enjoy our service unconditionally, expecting us to earn all the money while also being responsible for chores and raising children?"

"If you want heirs, we have a solution for that too! We can keep these females as our breeding machines, and we won’t have to serve them anymore..."

Their words were insidiously persuasive, with every sentence assaulting the core values of Ye Ming’s subordinates.
