Alaric’s pupils contracted while Alice shook.

The latter was the first to speak.

"Memories of beating the Young Lord in public? Are you sure? Was there anything else? Like why did you beat him? Did anything happen after you defeated him?"

Alice was almost sure that the young lord knew about the future.

But would he know why the protagonist took certain actions? And how did he receive certain items and skills?

Most likely not.

After all, the System was an existence that transcended even future sight.

The young lord wouldn’t know that she was alluding to the System.

However, contrary to her expectations, Evan shook his head.

"There is no explanation as to why I did what I did. In the memories, I didn’t get anything out of it either.

"This is clearly not a dream. I wasn’t sleeping. I was training my sword, and then these memories just rushed in.

"Young lord, something may not be right."

Alaric had stayed quiet from the very beginning, only trying to understand the situation.

His heart grew wary when Alice indirectly questioned about the system.

I can’t expose my minor mastery of throwing knives in front of her without sufficient reason, or she may get suspicious.

For some reason, she seemed to think he had no idea about the system, and he would strive to keep it that way for as long as possible.

She also didn’t react to Tales of Golden Era, which means she really doesn’t know of the novel and is not from Earth. Her situation is unique.

She knows about the system and the future but not the novel.

That also made him realise that he must deviate the timeline as much as possible and hope the system’s quests change.

Because if the rewards for Evan’s quests remained the same as in the novel then even with countless explanations, Alice would eventually get suspicious of his skills, treasures and other things.

However, what made him breathe a sigh of relief was Evan’s situation.

It seemed he only received memories surrounding the first quest. There was nothing else.

Alaric would have to wait and see what kind of rules the memories followed, because there were many he could think of.

Without any expression on his face, he pacified Evan.

"This matter doesn’t seem to be simple. Don’t share it with anyone till we find out what this is about."

Alaric had a servant bring him a Divine Contract Scroll which he used to bind the three of them together regarding this matter.

Evan didn’t find anything about this strange.

It was common practice that noble houses liked to investigate the issues and fix them in private without letting its information spread.

After all, it wasn’t wise to let others get wind of what was happening in your territory.

A few minutes later, Alaric and Alice boarded a carriage.

As Alice took the reins to drive the carriage, she asked.

"Young Lord, where are we going?"

Alaric inwardly smirked, but kept his expression neutral while answering.

"Moliken forest."

It is where the assassins who’ve been hired to kill the young lord travel through in the novel.

At this time, they should’ve just started crossing the forest.

Alice almost let out a curse when she heard the destination.

Bastard. Does he genuinely not know or is he testing me?

The problem was, even if he was testing her, it was an open scheme she had no choice but to fall into.

The terms of the Divine Contract Scroll stated that one couldn’t withhold information harmful to the other party.

The issue here was that there were plenty of instances in the novel where the young lord would fall in danger, while there was no such thing for her character.

Which meant, the young lord could verify the future through her or even gain extra information but she couldn’t do the same.

It wasn’t even his fault, he was simply playing the game to his favor.

Alice bit back the numerous curses and replied after a moment of thought.

"Young Lord. That place is dangerous for you at the moment. I have reasons to believe that assassins might threaten your life in the Moliken forest."

Alaric nodded, but didn’t push her for more information. There was a time and place for everything.

If he wanted to gain her loyalty, he had to take it slow and steady.

He tilted his head and remarked.

"Even if there were assassins, I have to go there. That is the only hunting grounds for beasts that House Orlen has."

Alice questioned. "What do you want beasts for?"

Before Alaric could even answer, she spoke.

"Wait, do you plan to give them to Evan in order to make him stay?"

"You’re quick." Alaric responded, but didn’t elaborate.

To complete the second quest, he had gotten the idea when he recruited Alice.

She first had to be released from ordinary service of House Orlen before she could enter his personal service. Couldn’t he do the same with Evan?

After handing him his Certificate of Service, which would terminate his mandatory service to House Orlen, he could recruit him as his personal retainer.

That way, he could complete the second quest and still keep Evan by his side.

The only problem was convincing Evan to stay.

Knight was the first rank of the body path power system.

Squire was the preparatory stage before it. Through breathing techniques, Squires surpassed ordinary people, but they had yet to cross the threshold into true power.

Those wishing to break through required an enormous amount of blood to temper their bodies.

Squires often struggled with this as their own body’s blood production was too slow for them to make any reasonable progress.

Naturally, hunting beasts became the best option for those who didn’t want to spend on expensive resources.

However, most hunting grounds belonged to noble houses, so one had to pledge their allegiance to a noble house if they wanted resources for progress in their body path power system.

Squires under House Orlen received a monthly allocation of beast corpses, with additional rewards based on merit.

If he wanted Evan to willingly remain by his side after receiving his Certificate of Service, sponsoring beast corpses was a good way.

After all, few noble houses were willing to invest heavily in someone they hadn’t raised themselves.

A few hours later, Alice called out. "Young Master, we’ve reached."

He descended from the carriage and gazed at the dense cluster of trees that made up Moliken Forest.

Squires need blood to progress.

The stronger the source, the greater the benefits.

He smiled faintly.

Wouldn’t the corpses of assassins sent to kill me make a wonderful welcome gift for Evan?
