First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2958 - Unstoppable Force

Bei Lin lay on the ground in a heap, spurting blood. His wounds were so severe that he couldn’t get back up.

He, too, looked at Su Yi with terror and dread. Disbelief was written all over his face. He couldn’t even begin to imagine who this young sword cultivator was or why he was so terrifying.

“No wonder the Heart-Tempering Sword House is so fearless. So, they recruited a helper like you,” said Chief Meng Che, breaking the stifled silence.

He stared daggers at Su Yi, his gaze cold and fierce. “I’d actually be interested to know if the Heart-Tempering Sword House is really willing to risk a falling out.”

Su Yi laughed. “Sword cultivators aren’t afraid to die. Why would we fear such unseemly threats?”

He took a step forward, then said, “Those who aren’t convinced, step forth!”

This light, airy declaration put enormous pressure on every Aberrant here. At the same time, his domineering bearing thoroughly enraged every last one of them.

“Young man, dare you tell us your name?” said the bony Grand Libationer, Mu Yang.

This sword cultivator was far too domineering, and he clearly didn’t take any of them the least bit seriously. He was arrogant to the point of complete lawlessness.

But that only made the situation seem all the stranger.

Su Yi put away his jug of wine, then gently drew his fingertip along the flat of his sword. He said casually, “If you don’t already know, there’s no need to tell you now. I’ll naturally answer your questions—after we’ve settled things.”

Wu Qing’s heart stirred. This is the Aberrants’ territory, yet the founder is as calm as if he’s arrived in his own garden. He’s so composed that the Aberrant experts might as well not even be there.

His bearing broadened Wu Qing’s horizons. He couldn’t help but feel impressed.

But the Aberrants saw it differently. To them, Su Yi’s attitude was unquestionably the greatest possible insult!

“In that case, allow us to bear witness to your ‘magnificent techniques!'” Chief Meng Che said sinisterly. “Let’s see which is stronger: your sword or our fists!”

Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, the Aberrant experts retreated explosively, and one of the mountain’s killing formations activated with a boom.

Countless strange, blood-red Aberrant markings took to the skies, condensing into a wave that swept outward, blocking all of Su Yi and Wu Qing’s escape routes.

The formation was strange and distinctive. It had a primordial air about it, as if it separated the space within from the outside world.

The countless blood-red Aberrant Markings shockingly condensed into nine blood-red suns overhead.

The Blood Crow Heaven-Refining Formation!

This was one of the Aberrants’ three ultimate killing formations. Those trapped inside were refined into blood, their souls scattered and dispersed.

Chief Meng Che and the others watched Su Yi and Wu Qing from outside the formation. They couldn’t help but laugh. They’re trapped!

They’d been having a transmitted conversation with each other throughout the earlier stand-off. They’d quietly worked together to prepare to activate the killing formation.

That was how they’d pulled this off so smoothly!

“Haha! Let’s see if you’re still so arrogant after this, kid!” someone laughed coldly.

The Aberrants seldom used the Blood Crow Heaven-Refining Formation, but whenever they did, it was sure to confine and kill their opponents. There had never been any exceptions!

“I just don’t understand. Who is that kid, and why is he so prideful?” someone asked with a frown. “And why would the Heart-Tempering Sword House entrust their hopes to a moron like him? Don’t tell me they’ve really all lost their wits?”

“Why concern yourself with all that? Once we’ve captured them, let’s visit the Heart-Tempering Sword House immediately and settle things!” someone said with seething murderous intent. “We offered them our protection out of the goodness of our hearts, but they failed to recognize our kindness. We must make them pay for this!”

Chief Meng Che said calmly, “We must indeed settle this score!”

Meanwhile, the interior of the formation rumbled and boomed. Nine blood-red suns glowed with dazzling, destructive radiance.

Wu Qing’s hair stood on end, but before he could react, Su Yi took action.

Clang!

The bamboo sword pointed at the dome of heaven. Sword qi shot into the sky, cleaving into one of the blood-red suns.

The entire killing formation shook.

Su Yi had obviously cut down just one of the nine crimson suns, but the other eight were affected, too. All of them swayed violently.

Immediately afterward, Su Yi walked through the air, rising higher and higher as he swung his bamboo sword with abandon.

Three thousand, nine hundred streaks of sword qi appeared. Each of them cleaved into another section of the killing formation.

Su Yi was accurately targeting the formation’s three thousand nine weak points in much the same way that a butcher dissected a cow, every swing expertly targeting the animal’s joints.

The formation’s shifting and operations were hard to pinpoint. Its weaknesses were constantly shifting, too, gone as soon as they appeared. Thus, even if someone could sense them, it was all but impossible to break free.

But it was different for Su Yi. He attacked all of the formation’s weak points practically simultaneously. By the time the formation next shifted, all of its vulnerabilities had already been targeted.

Such opportunities came and went in a flash. Ordinary Heavenly Monarchs could never have pulled it off.

But to Su Yi, it was nothing at all.

For one thing, his heart was terrifyingly strong, stronger than even the hearts of Heavenly Sovereigns.

For another, he now had the Ashes of Spirit Edict. This let him detect the formation’s “spirit” at a glance.

When he combined the two, all of the formation’s secrets were laid bare. All of its mysteries and operations were on full display in Su Yi’s heart.

From the outside, it seemed like he had precognition. He seized the most fleeting of opportunities and attacked in full force!

Boom—!

All three thousand, nine hundred streaks of sword qi landed. The entire killing formation quivered, and the remaining blood-red suns shattered.

Immediately afterward, the entire killing formation exploded like crisp, brittle flatbread beneath a hammer, shattering into countless “crumbs.” A rain of light scattered in all directions.

In the end, it collapsed with a bang.

The Aberrants watching from outside the formation were stunned. All of them looked stricken. Barely any time has passed, but he’s already broken the formation? How is that possible?

Meanwhile, Su Yi and Wu Qing came back into view amidst the churning clouds of dust. Neither had so much as a single hair out of place.

When Wu Qing took in the astonishment on the Aberrants’ faces, he couldn’t help but feel sorry for them. He would never have guessed that Su Yi would break the formation so quickly, either. He did it with such ease that he truly seemed unstoppable!

“A formation like this means nothing to me. Allow me to offer you some advice: Stop here, or you’ll only invite your own humiliation,” Su Yi said with a dry laugh.

He took a step forward, his robes swaying around him and his sleeves billowing. Inscrutable Lighting Astral power flowed over the surface of his bamboo sword.

Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, he swung his sword at a distant Aberrant expert, a tall, powerfully built man holding a spear covered in a flowing, blood-red current.

When the man sensed the incoming threat, he swung his spear and tried to defend himself, only for his spear to split on impact. The Aberrant was sent flying, his body in tatters.

But this was only the beginning. Su Yi had decided to attack, so he naturally wouldn’t stop here.

As he moved, one streak of sword qi after another rose into the air, like dazzling beams of misty blue light. All of them brought with them terrifying Spirit Firmament Astral Lightning.

Practically every streak injured an Aberrant when it landed, either sending them flying or knocking them to the ground. Once they fell, they could no longer get up.

It would have been no exaggeration to describe Su Yi as “a tiger charging into a flock of sheep.” He was completely overwhelming his opponents. No matter who he targeted, they couldn’t block even a single hit!

Chief Meng Che’s courage completely broke down. He was comparable to a Piercing Illusions Stage Heavenly Monarch, but Su Yi’s offensive put enormous pressure on even him!

Most unsettling of all, his allies were even worse off. Every time one of Su Yi’s slashes landed, an Aberrant was badly injured and rendered unable to fight.

“Quick! Activate the other killing formations!” bellowed Meng Che.

Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, two more ancient killing formations sprang into action.

The first was like a blazing furnace billowing with divine flames. It could purportedly burn even suns and moons into ash.

The second created a separate space full of fog. Those trapped inside had their senses sealed, as if they’d been blinded and reduced into mortals. They couldn’t sense or feel anything at all.

When both formations activated at once, their combined power was naturally extraordinary, but to Su Yi, they really meant nothing at all.

Killing formations were called that precisely because they borrowed the power of heaven and earth and shifted unpredictably, making them difficult to guard against.

Unfortunately, between Su Yi’s secret power of the heart and Ashes of Spirit Edict, none of these changes could elude his gaze.

It was just like when he destroyed the Blood Crow Heaven-Refining Formation. Su Yi destroyed both formations with ease almost as soon as he was “trapped.”

They might as well not have existed!

Now, all three of the Aberrants’ ancient killing formations had been destroyed.

Wu Qing gaped in astonishment.

The Heart-Tempering Sword House had discussed their options and concluded that if they had a falling out with the Aberrants, these formations would be the biggest threat they had to face. They’d have to pay a grievous price to break them.

Who could have imagined that the three formations would be so useless against their founder?

Meanwhile, Chief Meng Che and the others were so stunned that their courage failed them. Even that wasn’t enough? How could this young man be so terrifying? Don’t tell me he’s really a deeply hidden Heavenly Sovereign?

“I heard that you still have quite a few Heroic Souls of your forebears who died during the Devastation. Why not summon them to broaden my horizons?” Su Yi asked calmly.

Even as he spoke, he leaped through the air, sword swinging. His forceful offensive never slowed.

But he had only a handful of enemies left. The others were already lying on the ground, badly injured.

The Aberrants watching the battle from the rest of the mountain had all lost their nerve. Even just watching the battle from a distance, their hearts quivered with fright, and chills coursed down their spines.

Who is that sword cultivator? How could he be so brazen here in our territory? It’s like he’s invincible!

Since when did the Heart-Tempering Sword House have someone so terrifying in their ranks?

“If you’re seeking death, fine! We’ll grant your wish!” Chief Meng Che roared in fury, his long hair loose and disheveled. His eyes widened as if about to pop.

He raised his hand and summoned an ancient palace. It suddenly expanded, filling the sky.

Then, one terrifying figure after another shot out of its interior. All of them emanated inscrutable auras with monstrous divine majesty. They weren’t any weaker than the peak Heavenly Monarchs of the present day.

Moreover, there were over one hundred of them!

Even just standing there, their combined auras blanketed the sky and blotted out the sun. They were like an army of unparalleled fiends straight from the battlefields of the Devastation.

These were Heroic Souls.

They were dead, but their Heroic Souls lived on!
