Su Yi sat in his wicker chair amidst the devastated landscape. Pu Xuan sat beside him and explained the whole situation.
Ultimately, he and Lian Luo had been chased because of their connection to Lu Hongpao.
The battle in the Literati Continent ended with Lu Hongpao’s whereabouts unknown. As her subordinate, Lian Luo naturally lost his greatest pillar of support.
First, experts of Sevendeaths Court destroyed White Sparrow Tower. Then, they chased Lian Luo and Pu Xuan, leaving them no choice but to flee for their lives.
Starting half a year ago, Wang Chu and his followers had chased them across the Immeasurable and Silent Continents, all the way into the Divine Wandering Continent.
After hearing the full story, Su Yi couldn’t help but sigh. How glorious was Lian Luo in the past? He was the master of White Sparrow Tower, the man famed across the Eternal Heavens Domain for using his enemies’ heads to construct a burial mound. But all of that changed when the Red-Robed Heavenly Sovereign met with disaster and vanished.
“She’s still alive,” said Su Yi.
Lian Luo blinked, then lit up with mad delight. “Wonderful! Wonderful! I just knew that nothing bad could possibly happen to her!”
Su Yi smiled. “When she returns, she’s sure to get even on your behalf.”
As he spoke, he flipped his palm, and the Book of Destiny floated into the air. He then used the secret power of the heart to enter the Divine Punishment Destiny Ruin and make contact with the Monarch of Endless Tribulations and the Buddha of Non-Existence.
Shortly after, Su Yi closed the Book of Destiny in relief; he’d succeeded.
He took out two jade slips, carved each with a secret method, and gave them to Lian Luo and Pu Xuan. He explained casually, “You can use these methods to resolve the lingering threats within your bodies.”
Pu Xuan and Lian Luo couldn’t help but blink, stunned. Then, both of them went mad with delight.
Su Yi ordered, “I’m sorry to do this to you, but for now, please hide and cultivate in the world in my sleeves.”
They naturally had no objections. Still, Pu Xuan couldn’t help but ask, “Wait, Master, what will you do?”
He got the distinct sense that Su Yi had no intention of leaving.
Su Yi sprawled out in his wicker chair, took out a jug of wine, and said distractedly, “I’ve yet to vent my hatred. I plan to wait here a while longer. I’ll leave once I’ve gotten my fill of killing.”
Pu Xuan froze, stunned, and was just about to urge Su Yi to leave when Lian Luo interrupted him. “What kind of existence do you think His Excellency Su is? He wouldn’t have made this decision without good reason. You should just do as you’re told!”
He then flashed Su Yi a blatantly toadyish smile. “Your Excellency Su, this junior wishes you a massacre so earth-shaking that even gods and ghosts weep!”
Pu Xuan rolled his eyes. What time does he think this is? Even now, he doesn’t forget to seize every opportunity to kiss my master’s ass!
But then, Pu Xuan sighed. “Your disciple laments his injuries. If not for my fear that I’d become a burden, I’d be sure to accompany you, bear witness to your majesty as you cut down a throng of enemies, and learn from your attainments in the Dao of the Sword. If only I could wave your banner and cheer you on!”
Su Yi didn’t know what to say. The two of them are this badly injured, but they’re still taking the time to flatter me. They sure are something.
“Hurry up and get in there!” Su Yi laughed and chastised them as he pulled them into the world in his sleeves.
Then, he sat there, jug of wine in hand, eyes closed, and sank into thought.
Earlier, he’d placed Wang Chu and Ren Dongshi’s remnant souls into the Book of Destiny for the Monarch of Endless Tribulations and Buddha of Non-Existence to interrogate. Neither had been able to endure, and before long, they’d both obediently offered up the methods for resolving Pu Xuan and Lian Luo’s afflictions.
That aside, Su Yi learned that Ren Dongshi hadn’t lied about one thing; he really had already sent word back to Limitless Palace.
It wouldn’t be long before Limitless Palace took action. Thus, Su Yi had decided to sit and wait for them to arrive.
He was actually curious to see how great a lineup they sent after him, and whether or not Heavenly Sovereign Wen came in person!
...
The southern frontier of the Divine Wandering Continent, the Divine Feather Daoist Sect.
“Sect Leader, this time, Limitless Palace has called for Third Martial Great-Uncle by name. He’s to follow Limitless Palace’s orders on this upcoming mission,” an old man reported gravely.
“Third Martial Great-Uncle went into seclusion five thousand years ago. He’s contemplating the mysteries of Piercing Illusions. Limitless Palace is demanding too much of us,” said the leader of the sect, Hu Daoyi.
“Sect Leader, sixteen Heavenly Monarch factions of the southern frontier have apparently received similar orders,” the old man said gravely. “They commanded that each faction sends three Heavenly Monarchs, and anyone they request by name must heed their call—no exceptions under any circumstances!"
Sect Leader Hu Daoyi’s expression darkened. “Does anyone know what exactly Limitless Palace is after?”
The old man shook his head. “I don’t know. All I know is that all of the Heavenly Monarchs who received this decree are gathering in the Obscured Heavens Mountains.”
The Obscured Heavens Mountains? Sect Leader Hu Daoyi furrowed his brow in confusion. “Don’t tell me something shocking happened there, something so big that even Limitless Palace has to take it seriously?”
The old man said gravely, “Sect Leader, in this old man’s estimation, we should be more concerned about how we handle Limitless Palace. They demand a clear answer within the hour.”
Hu Daoyi grimaced. “Is there really any need for discussion? They’re the masters of these lands. Those of us ‘living under their roof’ have no choice but to lower our heads. What faction of the Divine Wandering Continent would dare to refuse their orders?”
Hu Daoyi rose. “Look at what happened to the Heart-Tempering Sword House. They were the greatest Heavenly Monarch faction around, but they were still wiped out overnight, weren’t they?”
“Right!” Something suddenly occurred to him. “Do you know who in Limitless Palace is overseeing this operation?”
The old man said in a grave voice, “Limitless Palace hasn’t yet revealed that information, but judging from their announcement, I can guess that they’ll most likely send Heavenly Monarch Ling Huo!”
Heavenly Monarch Ling Huo! Hu Daoyi was stunned. He instantly realized that the circumstances were extraordinary.
Heavenly Monarch Ling Huo was a highly experienced elder with immense seniority. He was also Heavenly Sovereign Wen’s martial nephew, and the martial uncle of the current leader of Limitless Palace!
Someone like him could shake the entire Divine Wandering Continent with a stamp of his feet. He was a highly prominent authority figure.
Heavenly Monarch Ling Huo is going to lead this operation personally, and they’ve even commanded that the sixteen Heavenly Monarch factions of the southern frontier each send three Heavenly Monarchs to assist him... Just what could possibly have happened in the Obscured Heaven Mountains? Why does Limitless Palace care so much about this?
Even as he pondered, Hu Daoyi dashed into the sect’s forbidden grounds to find Third Martial Great-Uncle. He dared not hesitate any longer!
......
Heavenly Monarch Ling Huo stood in front of the Obscured Heavens Mountains in silence, his back straight. His wide-sleeved black robes rustled in the wind.
He was an expert of Limitless Palace with high seniority, but he looked like a handsome youth. His long hair was silver, but his skin was smooth and fair. Only his eyes bore the vicissitudes of the passage of countless years.
“Patriarch, three Heavenly Monarchs of the Cloudriver Daoist Sect have arrived!”
“Patriarch, three Heavenly Monarchs of Divine Gale Mountain have arrived!”
“Patriarch...”
Messengers approached to deliver one report after another. All of them brought Heavenly Monarchs from the southern frontier’s various factions to greet Heavenly Monarch Ling Huo.
All of them were as respectful as could be, but from beginning to end, Heavenly Monarch Ling Huo just stood there in silence.
The group of Heavenly Monarchs was growing behind him.
Heavenly Monarch Ling Huo said nothing, so the others dared not speak, either. The atmosphere was stifled and oppressive to the extreme.
After a while, Heavenly Monarch Ling Huo finally broke his silence. “How many have yet to arrive?”
As he spoke, he turned to scan the group.
There were thirty-six of them in total, including numerous prominent, older-generation experts and shockingly powerful fighters.
One of them, a bearded middle-aged man, said hurriedly, “The Heavenly Monarchs of four factions have yet to arrive, but I’ve received word that they’re on their way.”
Heavenly Monarch Ling Huo said coldly, “We cannot wait any longer. Tell them to go back and await their punishment!”
The others’ hearts shook, their expressions increasingly awed.
Limitless Palace was the sole hegemon of the Divine Wandering Continent.
One sentence from Heavenly Monarch Ling Huo was enough to ensure that the four factions unable to make it in time would soon face the brunt of Limitless Palace’s wrath!
“Understood!” The bearded middle-aged man solemnly nodded his assent.
Heavenly Monarch Ling Huo said calmly, “Our target for this mission is Su Yi...”
But before he could continue, the crowd stirred, and a clamor of voices arose on all sides.
Su Yi!
The battle in the ruins of the Heart-Tempering Sword House had brought Su Yi back to the forefront of the public’s consciousness, creating a massive wave of uproar.
Naturally, all of them knew that this battle had taken place in the Divine Wandering Continent.
Still, it was only now that all of the Heavenly Monarchs who’d rushed to heed Limitless Palace’s call understood why they were here.
Limitless Palace had rallied this massive force to reel in a big fish!
“I have just one requirement: act in accordance with my orders. If anyone dares to defy me, both they and their sect of origin will pay the price!” Heavenly Monarch Ling Huo’s voice rang out once more, suppressing the clamor of voices. “Does everyone understand?”
The group was instantly solemn. All of them nodded.
“Let’s go,” said Heavenly Monarch Ling Huo, setting off without another word. The Heavenly Monarchs followed, and soon, the grand procession was deep in the Obscured Heavens Mountains.
They charged in with unstoppable momentum, scaring the beasts of the mountains. The landscape was plunged into chaos as they scampered off in panic.
These were Heavenly Monarchs. How could their majesty possibly be ordinary? Especially when so many of them marched into battle at once?
Even just the auras emanating from them were enough to intimidate all living beings.
They traversed the mountains without incident, and soon, a dilapidated stretch of land came into view. The ground was completely covered in the vestiges of battle.
When they used their divine sense, they could clearly sense the lingering stench of blood and wisps of undissipated murderous intent.
Corpses, blood, and fragmented treasures were strewn across the scarred earth.
The Heavenly Monarchs were instantly solemn. One look at the battlefield, and they could tell that this had been a fierce battle—and that the combatants had been Heavenly Monarchs!
The leader of the group, Heavenly Monarch Ling Huo, suddenly stopped in his tracks, his eyes flashing like cold lightning as he gazed into the wreckage.
There, he saw a blue-robed figure reclining in a wicker chair, eyes shut. He was holding a jug of wine in one hand, and he looked utterly relaxed.
