Su Yi and Jiang Wuchen’s three disciples drank until the wee hours of the night, reminiscing about the past. All of them were rueful.
The master and his three apprentices had been reunited, but the vicissitudes of countless years had changed all three of them.
But as much as they’d changed, nothing beat a night of drunkenness.
When the subject of Eternal Thrones arose, Su Yi couldn’t help but laugh. “So, Ling Wenxuan said they’re aiming to have three Heavenly Sovereigns in a single sect. They’re actually quite ambitious.”
He’d long since planned to ensure that the Heart-Tempering Sword House had a Heavenly Sovereign—no, Heavenly Sovereigns!
That aside, their ancestral grounds had been destroyed. He’d have to arrange a bigger, better place for them to rebuild.
And Su Yi just so happened to have one on hand: the ancestral ground of Fangchun Mountain. There was no reason he couldn’t take it out and give it to the Heart-Tempering Sword House.
The name Fangchun represented the heart. Although the two orthodoxies differed, both focused on tempering the heart.
The disciples of the Heart-Tempering Sword House could succeed the legacies of Fangchun Mountain and ensure its teachings lived on.
But Su Yi didn’t say any of that out loud. He couldn’t do it now anyway, and he’d always disliked such empty talk anyway.
Later, when he carried out his plans, there’d be no need for him to say anything. Everyone would understand what he’d done.
When the banquet ended, Su Yi went to the twelfth floor of the Sword-Testing Tower.
“Are you planning to challenge the thirteenth floor again?” asked the Primordial Sword Devil with a smile. By now, he and Su Yi were well acquainted.
Su Yi nodded. “I suspect that this will be my last trip to the thirteenth floor.”
The Primordial Sword Devil looked stunned. “Are you planning to give up?”
Of late, Su Yi had challenged the Heavenly Sovereign imprint on the thirteenth floor every couple of days. He’d lost every time, but his progress was shocking. By now, he could block a full thirty blows, sometimes more!
However, the Primordial Sword Devil knew that no matter how heaven-defyingly talented Su Yi was, he still had limits. The crux of the matter was that his cultivation base was still stuck in the Silent Realm.
That meant that it would be all but impossible for him to defeat the imprint of a Heavenly Sovereign without any kind of external power.
“No, I’m going to break through.” Su Yi shook his head, then sighed. “I’ve tempered my Silent Realm cultivation base to unprecedented heights. I could have broken through a long time ago, but I’ve been stubbornly holding back a breakthrough all this time.”
The Primordial Sword Devil gasped. He’s been suppressing his cultivation? Others struggle to make any progress at all after reaching Eternity. It’s bitter torment! But look at this guy! Here he is, sighing because he cannot suppress his progress any further! It’s enough to make you sick with envy!
After a while, the Primordial Sword Devil said, “Don’t... don’t tell me you plan to break through on the thirteenth floor?”
He couldn’t even imagine it. Su Yi is a monster. How terrifying and calamitous must his Tribulations of Destiny be when he breaks through? I’m not sure the Sword-Testing Tower will be able to take it!
Su Yi could tell what the Primordial Sword Devil was worried about. He couldn’t help but chuckle. “There’s no need for concern. My breakthroughs are different from other people’s.”
The Primordial Sword Devil was just about to ask what made them different when Su Yi turned and headed for the thirteenth floor.
As he walked, his presence shifted, as if he’d broken through invisible fetters. It was an earth-shaking, instantaneous transformation!
This... The Primordial Sword Devil rubbed his eyes. He almost suspected that he was seeing things.
But when he tried to examine Su Yi more closely, it was too late. Su Yi had already vanished from the twelfth floor.
Did that kid seriously break through just like that? Smoothly, as if it were all perfectly natural? What about his tribulation? Where was it? Something seriously isn’t right here! What kind of Dao is he pursuing? Don’t tell me that his Path of Eternity isn’t subject to the fetters of destiny?
The Primordial Sword Devil stood there in a daze, waves of emotion coursing through his heart. He couldn’t calm down.
In life, he’d been Heavenly Sovereign Wanjiang, a mighty expert of the Primordial Era. He’d seen no small number of strange and unparalleled existences.
But this was his first time seeing an Eternal break through so casually!
He hadn’t undergone any kind of tribulation, yet his cultivation base had advanced smoothly to the next level!
“He really is an anomaly,” murmured the Primordial Sword Devil. “No wonder he managed to master reincarnation, and no wonder he’s so ridiculously strong for his level. He has sure broadened my horizons...”
...
Meanwhile, on the thirteenth floor of the Sword-Testing Tower, the Heavenly Sovereign imprint shattered with a heaven-shaking bang, scattering into a rain of light.
Su Yi stood there in silence, hands behind his back. His blue robes swayed around him, and his entire body was swathed in sword intent. He had an immeasurably vast, boundless charm about him.
He’d already entered the Immeasurable Realm.
Now, he’d effortlessly defeated the Heavenly Sovereign imprint on the thirteenth floor, becoming the first in history to pass all of the Sword-Testing Tower’s trials!
The Immeasurable Realm was the fourth realm of Eternity. The name represented the immeasurable enormity of the Grand Dao. Those who reached this level could grasp the “substance” and “emptiness” of the Laws of Eternity.
Substance was truth, while “emptiness” represented that which was false.
They existed between truth and the void, unbound and immeasurable. Thus, they were known as Immeasurable Realm cultivators.
The main thing that differentiated them from those yet to reach this level was the Immeasurable force that filled every aspect of their being, from their foundations in the Grand Dao, their soul, their powers of the Laws, to their body.
The Immeasurable represented a higher level of attainment. They were experienced experts among Eternals.
It was just that, unlike Heavenly Fate Realm experts, they’d yet to grasp the mysteries of destiny.
Su Yi sensed his changes inside and out with calm equanimity. He felt neither joy nor sorrow.
This day should have come a long time ago, but just as he’d said earlier, he’d been suppressing his cultivation base this entire time. He was competing with himself, and with the Heavenly Sovereign imprint.
Now, he’d finally achieved a breakthrough as natural as water overflowing a cup. It was only when you could no longer suppress your progress that you could achieve a perfect breakthrough.
Meanwhile, Su Yi compared his past and present lives and reached a clear conclusion. He was only in the Immeasurable Realm, but he’d already suppressed Jiang Wuchen at his peak!
I compete with myself. There’s no one I’d rather be than me!
All of his lives were part of him. Surpassing them at their peaks was all part of his chosen path.
Su Yi lingered on the thirteenth floor for two days. He used that time to stabilize his cultivation base and temper his Laws of the Grand Dao. He completely forgot himself in the process.
Moreover, just as the Primordial Sword Devil told him, when Su Yi defeated the Heavenly Sovereign imprint on the thirteenth floor, he naturally grasped all of the Sword-Testing Tower’s secrets!
The Sword-Testing Tower was refined from a fragment of an Eternal Throne. It was a true Heavenly Sovereign Dao Treasure!
The Eternal Throne in question had been named “Dustless.” It had shattered long ago, during the Primordial Era, and its pieces were scattered across the world.
The Primordial Sword Devil had found one and used it to refine the Sword-Testing Tower.
The tower could nourish sword souls, restrict beings of the Grand Dao, and sustain thirteen hidden realms suitable for cultivation. It had numerous wondrous applications.
When Su Yi defeated the Heavenly Sovereign Imprint on the thirteenth floor, he earned this Heavenly Sovereign Dao Treasure’s acknowledgment.
So long as he willed it, he could make the tower his own!
Su Yi considered it, but in the end, he decided against it. He planned to leave the Sword-Testing Tower to the Heart-Tempering Sword House. After all, it was one of their core treasures.
Next, Su Yi visited the Primordial Sword Devil once more.
“Don’t think you can gather all the pieces of the Dustless Eternal Throne. There’s no way,” said the Primordial Sword Devil, the awareness of the former Heavenly Sovereign Wanjiang. It seemed he’d guessed what Su Yi was after.
“Do you remember what I told you earlier? During the earliest days of the Primordial Era, there were lots of Eternal Thrones, but most have long since been destroyed. The Dustless Eternal Throne was but one of them.
“During the Primordial Era, any scattered fragment of an Eternal Throne found was refined into a Heavenly Sovereign Dao Treasure. Those never discovered have long since been lost to history or vanished into the ether. They might as well not exist.
“I once refused to believe it. After refining the Sword-Testing Tower, I was dead set on acquiring the remaining pieces of the Dustless Eternal Throne. But reality is cruel. I spent my whole life trying, but I never found another piece of the Dustless Eternal Throne.”
The Primordial Sword Devil sighed.
Su Yi couldn’t help but find this a pity. Most of the broken Eternal Thrones’ pieces had been lost. The Yitian Eternal Throne was a rare exception; its fragments had all been located, so there was still hope of repairing it.
Suddenly, the Primordial Sword Devil said, “Practically every Heavenly Sovereign Dao Treasure was refined from a fragment of a broken Eternal Throne. Rather, it’s only with a piece of a broken Eternal Throne that you can craft a true Heavenly Sovereign Dao Treasure like the Sword-Testing Tower.
“Fragments of Eternal Thrones are rare and precious, the sort of good fortune you can only happen upon by chance. They’re not so easily found.
“But then, you’re still a full realm away from becoming a Heavenly Monarch, let alone a Heavenly Sovereign. You needn’t worry about all that.”
Su Yi had been listening in silence. When he heard that, he said, “I’m not that interested in Eternal Thrones, but if I want to become a Heavenly Sovereign, I’m not worried about finding an Eternal Throne.”
The Primordial Sword Devil looked stunned. “You’re really that confident?”
Su Yi raised three fingers. “To tell the truth, I’m confident I can find not one, but three.”
“???” The Primordial Sword Devil had no idea what to make of that. Even after Su Yi left, the Primordial Sword Devil remained frozen in place.
He murmured, “He says he can find not one, but three Eternal Thrones? Does that kid think that Eternal Thrones are as common as cabbages? There’s no way. There’s absolutely no way...”
The day he left the Sword-Testing Tower, Su Yi visited the Aberrants and ate and drank with Ancient Aberrant Xuan Ming. Together, they discussed the Totems of the Twelve Progenitors.
He stopped by the Heart-Tempering Sword House next.
That very day, he received yet another message from Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan urging him to pick a time and place for the Struggle for Heavenly Fate.
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan sounded frantic. He said that the world was getting more and more chaotic, and that even the Xuanli Sect had just suffered a major setback. Dark currents were flowing beneath the surface.
If they didn’t hurry up and hold the Struggle for Heavenly Fate, they’d inevitably encounter even more variables, and that would affect their chances of rebuilding the Yitian Eternal Throne.
Su Yi naturally knew that Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan was referring to the Qiongqi Mountain Lord’s recent trip to the Xuanli Sect.
He pondered briefly, then responded with a specific time and place: seven days from now, atop the River of Destiny, outside the Port of the Literati Continent!
