First Legendary Tamer: Starting with 100x Growth Rate
Chapter 129: A test for rankings…"Keep going. Keep going. Just a little... stop!"
The place where we stopped was right before the mountain, specifically before a giant door that was going to lead us inside the mountain.
"We will leave you here for now. Once you pass through the Screening, you can go and meet the headmaster."
"Thank you."
The rescue team captain who brought us here on the wyvern back did not seem to have any energy left.
I know this person from my past life and I know him to be a cheerful fellow. But it seems like things have been far too hectic for him these past few days.
’I don’t blame him though.’
The things that Nyx and Art did there were surely out of ordinary. And even if I were to describe their grand ’achievements’, without a proper understanding of the academy, their absurdity would not make sense to someone who did not know better.
So, leaving that topic, my party and I finally said our goodbye to the rescue team as they simply passed through the place that looked like a giant door to us: a common sight in the academy.
"We entered through the other side last time."
"That should be the General Entrance 3."
"As you already seem to know, yes."
I know this place like the back of my head and even someone like me hasn’t explored even a third of this place.
Anyways, there were several general entrances that lead inside but this one was not one of them.
The place where we stand right now is the so-called Front gate of the academy.
And, the only ones who can enter through the front gate are the ones who are currently working or studying in the academy.
"We should get inside. Come, let’s go."
Nyx had run off once again as soon as we hit the ground but I can sense him in the vicinity so he’s around.
Art isn’t leaving me and she isn’t saying much of anything right now. The thing that happened to me had impacted her a lot so I’m giving her some space.
She can speak her mind when she wants to, so for the time being, we looked ahead of us, at the several houses built in front of this giant gate for the people who are going to give the entrance test.
Some distance away from where the wyvern had landed, the surroundings were bustling right now.
There were people, there were stalls selling different things, there were houses, there were people, there was an entire town present right in front of the Front gate of the academy.
’A long time ago, people came and settled here to look after the people who were going to give the entrance exam and to profit from them.’
Most of the town’s folk weren’t really part of Stanox, but they still contributed to the economy of the academy.
There were free inns where the aspiring students can stay for a limited time, and while doing so, if they have the money, they can get some goods and things for their test.
’At a time, there were more than thirty thousand new people present in this town each month.’
The academy entrance test was conducted monthly so, anyone who wanted to give the test would either have to arrive a few days before the test or, like most people do nowadays, a few months before to get used to how things were inside the academy.
’The entrance test is not easy either.’
About twenty percent of the masses that give the academy entrance test fail. Less than fifty percent become official students, less than thirty percent of the official graduates pass the test to become a scholar here, and less than ten percent of the people who ever enter Stanox climb up the academic ranks.
"Master..."
"Sam, this place looks a little too old, don’t you think?"
The place that I brought them to was one of the best not just in this town but in the entire Empic mountains.
But they wouldn’t understand that yet.
"Just trust me. Come."
As we entered the two story inn that looked the oldest and the most run down, a place that people did not even want to get close to, we only found what we would expect: an old, empty, dark, dusty place.
There was no one present in this inn. And, in the reception, waiting for her first guests in a long while, was a short witch with a pointy witch hat.
"Welcome, travelers."
Her voice was low, old, and filled with wisdom. It was the same as I remember.
(Speaking Elvish: )
"Mother nature looks upon us, Lady Hagel. This young party greets the Honorable elder."
There was a subtle look of surprise on her face, one that shifted into an amusing smile quickly.
"Mother nature looks upon us, young one. The honor is all mine, I must say." Her purple eyes were much deeper than Rainin’s purple hair ends.
There was a strange wisdom that one cannot understand in those eyes.
As one of the oldest beings in the Epic mountain, she was not someone that can be deceived by mere appearances.
"Seeing that unforgettable blue Salamander, you must be the master Those Two caused all that trouble for."
"That would be me, indeed. And yes, I know I have many people to apologise."
And I didn’t waste any time getting started as I bowed to the old witch.
"Please forgive me for their misconduct. One is too young for this world while the older is too old for the modernities of nowadays."
She was the innkeeper of this place. And at the same time, in this town established for the outsiders, she was an important part of Stanox.
She must have been troubled when Nyx hacked into the academy’s system. So, this apology was a must.
"Ah!"
And since I was bowing to this old lady, even though the two beside me did not understand the language of the elves, they bowed together with me.
"Meow..." I can tell Felix had already grasped the greatness of this person’s ’unique world’ so, I just pushed her head down.
She didn’t cause trouble for her, but she should still not stare at people like this. Especially when her mouth was wide open like this.
"Looks like you’re one of those strange ones." She smiled and shook her head. "Rise. Your apology is well appreciated."
She looked at me for a little longer as she said that, and at the same time, she looked at both of my partners that were with me right now.
Then, with her eyes still holding my image, she looked to a side, probably looking straight at Nyx wherever he was right now.
Then her eyes observed Lexie and Rainin and the smile on her face softened.
(Speaking common tongue: )
"Speak, dear customer." She was not acting as a Professor of Stanox right now. Here, as this avatar, she was merely the owner of this inn. "How can we be of service to you today?"
In my past life, I lived in one of the free accommodations with no money to spend in this town.
I only came to know about the truth of this inn after I had spent ten years in the academy. But after that point, I knew one thing.
’If I must stay outside of the academy for any reason, I would stay in this inn.’
And the goal this time was the same.
"We are giving the test soon so until then, we would like the best service we can get with this." I placed a Dragon gold coin on the desk before her, making my companions’ eyes wide with shock.
Less than a day was left before the exam and I was spending what a normal household would spend in a year? In a rundown place like this?
It did not make any sense to the two of them.
"Ah... seems like we have a valuable customer this time." But I know they will thank me at the end of this.
"We must take good care of you then." The old witch smiled and grabbed the wooden magic staff sitting beside her.
-Tap. Tap.
Then, she tapped the staff on the floor, twice.
"We wish you a magical stay here, dear guests."
-Tap.
And with one last tap of her staff, the three of us, along with my beast companions, vanished from the rundown inn.
-Oooooooooooooooong!
And then, we opened our eyes in a completely different world... one that, I must say, was a dream come true for the young fairytale lovers.
