Chapter 2502: Chapter 306
"Although this arm isn’t entirely disabled, it’s a major surgery... Do you know how to make porridge?"
Ye Zhan’s gentle and focused eyes were like a deep vortex, drawing people in irresistibly.
Momo nodded and said softly, "I do, but making porridge takes quite a bit of time. You haven’t even had lunch yet. Let me get you something ready-made first to tide you over."
The color in Ye Zhan’s eyes darkened slightly.
He lowered his gaze to hide his emotions and his voice suddenly turned indifferent, "If you don’t want to, forget it."
Momo felt inexplicably uncomfortable.
Looking at the fading expression between his brows, she patiently and gently explained, "It’s not that I don’t want to, but you need to eat something first. You’ve lost quite a bit of blood. I’ll go to the mall and buy some groceries to cook at home for you later."
"Ziyi dislikes me very much."
Ye Zhan reminded her in a muffled voice.
He looked at the needle in his hand on the back of his hand.
Momo’s lips curled into a faint smile, "You don’t need to worry about that. I promised to make porridge for you, so I will. Of course, if you don’t need it anymore, I won’t insist."
"I do need it. My injured arm is the right one, so I won’t be able to cook until it heals."
"..."
Momo’s lips twitched slightly.
"Earlier you said you promised to do it, so will you help me with meals until my arm heals?"
Ye Zhan looked at her delicate face with a soft smile, unwilling to even blink.
For more than a year, he thought about her every day, but in those nights and days of longing, the most he could do was look at her photos.
Now that she was finally standing in front of him, he found that he was no longer satisfied with just being in her city and occasionally seeing her up close.
Now he wanted even more.
"..."
Momo hesitated.
She averted her eyes from Ye Zhan’s deep and fiery gaze and focused on his sensual lips, "Do you usually cook for yourself?"
"Yes."
Someone lied without batting an eyelid.
"One meal a day?"
"Three meals a day. I don’t like eating out."
Ye Zhan answered earnestly.
Actually, he had been in G City for a few months and only cooked a handful of meals himself; the rest of the time, either a maid cooked for him or he ate out.
His home and Tang Jinchen’s house were neighbors, but Tang Jinchen had a girlfriend, and Ye Zhan didn’t like to see them flaunting their love, especially during meals, so he usually didn’t go over to freeload.
"I’ll find you a maid to cook for you. She won’t live with you, so it won’t affect your life."
"I don’t like strangers coming in and out."
"Ye Zhan, we already broke up."
"I know."
"..."
Momo felt that if she continued talking with him, she would be unable to resist agreeing. So she pursed her lips and helplessly turned to walk towards the door.
"Momo."
The man’s urgent voice accompanied by the sound of rustling blankets and him getting out of bed, caused the infusion bag above the bedside to sway slightly.
"Why are you getting out of bed? Be careful of the needle skipping."
Momo turned back to see Ye Zhan getting out of bed and immediately stopped him angrily, speaking as she hurried back to reach out and grab the elongated infusion tube.
"Are you leaving?"
Ye Zhan didn’t care whether or not the needle on the back of his hand was affected.
He only knew he didn’t want her to leave like that.
Momo shook her head, her tightly furrowed brow showing no relaxation, her heart filled with an indescribable sourness.
"I was going to get you porridge."
Ye Zhan’s suspended heart finally settled.
The anxiety in his brows dissipated, his lips curved into a relieved smile, "You’re not angry with me and leaving?"
"I’m not that petty."
"So, have you agreed to help me with meals until my arm heals?"
"..."
"I’ll ask Secretary Liu to go get the porridge. Would you stay and talk with me for a while?"
Momo ignored the extreme discomfort in her heart and glanced at the needle in his hand, relieved that it hadn’t moved.
"Secretary Liu was just at the door. I’ll tell him."
Momo sighed, effectively agreeing to his request.
She felt it was wrong to do so—they had already broken up, and should not be... But a small voice inside argued that Ye Zhan was injured now, and the situation was special.
"Alright."
Ye Zhan nodded with a smile.
His gaze on her was focused and gentle.
Momo quickly turned away; this time, Ye Zhan didn’t call out to her again.
He simply focused on watching her back as she opened the door, her slender figure standing at the entrance, speaking to Secretary Liu outside to ask him to get some porridge.
The emptiness inside him was filled with warmth because of her presence. Looking down at his injured arm, he suddenly felt that the injury was too mild.
It should have been worse.
Outside, Secretary Liu politely responded, "Miss Mo, I’ll first go get Deputy Mayor Ye some porridge; I’ll leave this place to you."
Momo wore a gentle smile, "I’ll stay here; don’t worry."
Secretary Liu replied again, "Okay."
The tone was joyful no matter how it was heard.
He walked a few meters before Momo closed the door.
Turning back, she saw the man standing by the bedside, focused on watching her.
Her heart ached slightly.
Lips drew into a faint smile, "You should get back on the bed. Standing like that won’t do."
"Alright."
Ye Zhan smiled and nodded, the hospital gown hiding his sharp, icy edges, adding a touch of warmth that was hard to look away from.
Momo walked over, pulled out a chair, and sat down.
Looking at Ye Zhan, who had already laid back down, "You can close your eyes and rest for a bit. Wait until Secretary Liu brings back the porridge before getting up to eat."
"I’m not sleepy."
Ye Zhan’s lips held a warm curve; looking at him like this, in Momo’s mind, a phrase floated up unexpectedly: A gentleman as graceful as jade, unmatched in the world.
In those unbearable days abroad, when she wished she could die, she frequently thought of him.
"Momo."
The man’s voice pulled her back from her reverie.
Momo blinked and heard his deep, gentle, magnetic voice, tinged with hidden pain, "Are you better now?"
Momo was taken aback.
She quickly understood his meaning. She smiled in an indifferent tone and said calmly, "I’m better. I was better a long time ago."
After a year of torment, she casually brushed it off with "I’m better. I was better a long time ago."
But these few words landed heavily like a thousand-pound stone on Ye Zhan’s heart, suffocatingly painful.
He watched as her eyes filled with complicated emotions, "Do you still feel awful?"
"No, I’ve gained about ten pounds in the past three months."
Momo pretended to be cheerful, speaking in a teasing tone.
If Ye Zhan didn’t ask, she wouldn’t bring up the agony she had endured, each wave making her feel worse than death, and in truth, she had once contemplated it.
But ultimately, she persevered.
"Will you leave again?"
He pursed his sensual lips, forcefully suppressing the pain flaring in his heart, and asked gently.
Without listening intently, his tone didn’t reveal any unease.
