Chapter 2509: Chapter 313

Ye Zhan rose from the sofa unhurriedly and walked out, heading toward the kitchen. "Have you eaten? Do you want to eat here?"

Tang Jinchen took a deep breath and followed Ye Zhan into the kitchen.

Seeing the vegetables already cut and set on the marble counter, not yet stir‑fried, his handsome brows couldn’t help tightening again.

"Is Gu Zhitong at your place? If she is, go back and keep her company."

The man in front suddenly turned around, his gaze light as it landed on him.

Tang Jinchen glared at him, rolling up his sleeves as he brushed past him and walked to the sink to turn on the tap and wash his hands. "I’ll help you fry these two dishes before I go back."

Ye Zhan arched a brow and stood to the side, watching Tang Jinchen deftly light the stove and start to cook.

When the smell of pork liver began to fill the kitchen, Tang Jinchen’s voice sounded over the noise of stir‑frying. "Momo asked me to persuade you to go back to the Imperial City."

As he said this, he stared into the wok without turning his head to look at Ye Zhan beside him, yet he could clearly feel Ye Zhan’s aura shift in an instant.

A few seconds later, he plated the pork liver and turned his head to look at Ye Zhan.

Under the bright lights, a faint chill lay over his handsome brows, the corners of his mouth hooked in a thin, cool line. His tall, lean figure stood there, unable to conceal its loneliness and coldness.

Tang Jinchen narrowed his eyes. All of a sudden, he felt that over this past year, the one who had lost weight wasn’t only Momo, but also this brother of many years who had been through life and death with him.

"What else did she say?"

Ye Zhan met Tang Jinchen’s scrutiny calmly, the voice spilling from his thin lips as still as water.

Tang Jinchen’s lips curved in a brief smile as he shook his head.

Ten minutes later, after placing a bowl of congee in front of Ye Zhan, Tang Jinchen instructed lightly, "I’m heading back first. When you’re done eating, call the maid to come clean up. And don’t go back to being a smoker."

"Nagging."

Ye Zhan picked up his chopsticks with his left hand, clamped a small piece of pork liver and put it in his mouth. Seeing that Tang Jinchen was still standing there without leaving, he frowned. "Why are you still here?"

"I’m leaving."

The words Tang Jinchen had been about to say were swallowed back down.

After he left, Ye Zhan put down his chopsticks, took out his phone, and dialed a number.

After a few rings, Mo Xiuchen’s voice came through.

Ye Zhan spoke politely. "Uncle Mo, sorry to bother you so late at night."

"Is something the matter?"

Mo Xiuchen’s attitude toward Ye Zhan had always been lukewarm. Unlike Mo Ziye’s undisguised coldness and dislike, it was impossible to tell what he really thought.

Ye Zhan walked out of the dining room and asked in a gentle, deferential tone, "Uncle Mo, has Momo gone home?"

"Yes."

Mo Xiuchen glanced at his daughter, who was in the dining room eating noodles accompanied by Wen Ran, and said mildly, "If you have time, I’ll come over to your place in a while."

——

Forty minutes later.

Mo Xiuchen appeared at Ye Zhan’s home.

Ye Zhan invited him to sit on the sofa with a polite smile. When he reached with his left hand to pour him tea, Mo Xiuchen stopped him. "I’ll do it myself. You sit as well."

Mo Xiuchen not only poured himself a cup, he also poured one for Ye Zhan.

The two sat facing each other across the coffee table.

Mo Xiuchen’s calm gaze swept over Ye Zhan’s injured right arm. "I heard from Ah Kai that your arm is quite badly injured. Don’t let the wound get wet these days."

"Thank you for your concern, Uncle Mo."

"I’m only worried that if your wound doesn’t heal, Momo will be concerned."

Hearing this, a fine crack appeared in Ye Zhan’s warm, courteous expression. A glint flickered in his eyes as he looked in puzzlement at Mo Xiuchen’s calm face.

For a moment, the living room fell silent.

"Please don’t worry, Uncle Mo. I won’t use a self‑inflicted injury to win Momo’s sympathy."

After quite a while, Ye Zhan’s voice finally sounded, even and composed.

Mo Xiuchen smiled, sounding half joking, half pointed. "Then I can rest easy. If you really used that kind of tactic, I’d be afraid Momo wouldn’t be able to withstand it."

Ye Zhan thought of how Momo had come to his place tonight precisely because he said his wound hurt and he couldn’t cook for himself.

That too seemed like a kind of self‑inflicted ploy.

A trace of bitterness spread quietly through his chest.

Pressing his thin lips together, he stood up and gave Mo Xiuchen, sitting opposite him, a deep bow.

"What are you doing?"

"This is what I owe you and Aunt Wen. If Momo hadn’t saved me back then, there would be no Ye Zhan in this world."

"And then?"

Mo Xiuchen’s expression inexplicably darkened a shade.

The words that came out carried more authority and displeasure.

Ye Zhan straightened up, his gaze steady as he looked at Mo Xiuchen, speaking very seriously and firmly. "Uncle Mo, I know that because of what happened before, you must feel I can’t give Momo happiness. But I love her. If one day she’s willing to come back to me, please you and Aunt Wen give us your blessing."

Mo Xiuchen narrowed his eyes at Ye Zhan.

Before Momo returned, he had merely come quietly to G City and waited in silence.

Now, he was telling him that he loved Momo, and that if one day she was willing to return to him, he hoped for his blessing—

rather than asking him to help right now.

"You may not really understand Momo."

After taking a sip of the tea in front of him, Mo Xiuchen casually stroked the rim of the cup with his long fingers as he spoke to Ye Zhan.

A trace of warmth surfaced in Ye Zhan’s eyes; the sharp lines of his features seemed to soften slightly. His voice, "answering something else instead," was clear and gentle as it sounded in the quiet living room. "Maybe. She’s too kind, it makes it impossible for me to harden my heart and force her. But I have a lifetime to stay by her side and wait for her."

"So even if Momo never accepts you for the rest of her life, you still won’t give up?"

A faint curve lifted Ye Zhan’s lips. "Even if she doesn’t accept me, it doesn’t stop me from loving her."

"What if Momo marries someone else and has children?"

"Then I’ll watch over her from afar, seeing her happy."

"Ye Zhan, it’s too soon for you to be saying things like this. If you truly love Momo, how could you bear to watch her marry someone else and have children?"

There was a hint of mockery in Mo Xiuchen’s tone. He hadn’t interacted much with Ye Zhan, but he knew his character to some extent.

If he were someone who gave up easily, when he couldn’t find any trace of Momo no matter how he searched, he wouldn’t have come straight to G City to lie in wait.

His reluctance to force Momo now was only because he felt the time hadn’t come yet. The day he could no longer wait, he would resort to every possible means to pressure her.

And kind‑hearted Momo was no match for Ye Zhan at all.

Her coming over to cook dinner for him tonight was the best proof.

Mo Xiuchen looked at Ye Zhan with a grave expression and said, just as gravely, "Ye Zhan, whether you love Momo or wait for her, I won’t interfere. But if one day you hurt her again, or force her, you’ll never have another chance."

"Alright."

Ye Zhan nodded, accepting his warning.

Mo Xiuchen stood up. "Since you know Momo is too kind, then have more patience and perseverance. As long as the knot in her heart isn’t undone, she won’t accept you again."

"I understand, Uncle Mo."

A brief light flashed in Ye Zhan’s eyes as he listened to Mo Xiuchen say coolly, "Momo is my only daughter. I only want her to be happy."
