Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 369: Hashing Things OutHe had always known that changing a person’s mind was not something that could be done overnight. He had already been mentally prepared when he decided to marry her.
But even so, he was still a little hurt.
He felt a little defeated and upset until that night when the two returned home as usual.
After Yvonne entered the room, she went straight upstairs to the bedroom.
James followed behind her, watching as she went upstairs.
He paused for a moment before finally following her, stopping her before she entered the bedroom.
Yvonne was shocked. She looked at James, not understanding why he had stopped her.
James paused and asked, "Are you still angry with me?"
Yvonne asked, "Angry? What would I be angry about?"
She looked puzzled.
James asked, "You shut yourself in the room once you get home the past few days. Weren’t you mad at me?"
Yvonne finally understood when she heard that.
It turned out that he was referring to this matter.
She was not angry with him, but she didn’t know how to face him.
They were husband and wife, but they did not get along with each other like other couples. When they were alone, the atmosphere was often awkward.
She didn’t like that kind of feeling. Or one could say, she was at a loss about how to get along with him. She couldn’t find a balance between the two of them.
She couldn’t really express this feeling accurately, so every time she saw him, she couldn’t help but want to hide.
"James, I’m not angry. I’m..."
She wanted to say something but stopped on second thought. This made James even more curious.
In the end, Yvonne said helplessly, "I don’t know how to describe it. James, I’m really not angry. I just... just don’t want things to get awkward between us. I... don’t know how to deal with our current relationship... Do you understand?"
She was a little incoherent and she didn’t know how to express herself.
James stared into her frantic eyes and understood what she meant.
Truth be told, he was at a loss at first. He always wanted to spoil her a little and be with her, but at the same time, he was afraid that he would annoy her if he pushed her too hard.
He had also felt that he should be careful around her lest he made a mistake.
He could even understand what she was feeling right now.
He said, "I understand. I just want to tell you not to avoid me anymore. Let’s get along like before, and give each other some space and let nature take its course, okay?"
Yvonne felt relieved when she heard that. He had obviously gotten through to her.
Although she did not have anything against James right now, she could not accept him so quickly. What she wanted was to let nature take its course.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t say it out loud. That would be too hurtful.
However, the meaning was different when he said it.
She bit her lip and nodded heavily.
James seemed to be relieved as well. He finally smiled.
"Well, I’ll go down and cook something first."
Having hashed things out, James heaved a sigh of relief and turned around and went downstairs quickly.
Yvonne stared at his back as he walked down the stairs. She thought it was a little funny when she thought of how awkward she had been these past few days.
It turned out that it was very easy to hash things out but she had felt uneasy all by herself for so many days.
...
However, no matter what, at least they had hashed things out. Otherwise, who knew how long she had to feel uneasy for?
She smiled when she thought of that and then turned around, returning to the room.
She changed into casual clothes and went downstairs as well.
When she walked into the kitchen, James was standing by the sink in an apron, preparing ingredients for their meal.
Yvonne paused and walked up to him and asked, "Well... what can I do?"
James was a little surprised when he heard her. However, he reacted quickly and said, "You can clean this up."
He handed her a small packet of snow peas to her as he spoke.
Yvonne took the peas but did not know what to do. She was at a loss.
James said, "I’ll teach you."
He pulled out a pea and demonstrated what to do while he spoke.
Yvonne watched seriously and immediately took out a snow pea to do the same thing as he did. However, for some reason, her hands seemed really dull and not nimble at all.
James couldn’t help but chuckle when he saw her attempt. "No, how about this, take another look at this carefully."
Just like that, one of them taught while the other learned. Soon, the atmosphere at the sink became lively.
It didn’t take long for the tasty dinner to be served on the table.
Looking at the table of dishes that she had worked on, Yvonne felt a sense of gratification.
To be honest, when she first learned to prepare ingredients from James, she even felt like they have gone back to several months ago when they were still neighbors and just cooking together.
It was relaxing, natural, and interesting.
"What are you waiting for? Let’s eat." James said when he saw her staring at the dishes.
Only then did Yvonne gather her thoughts. She stole a glance at Jams who was sitting opposite her. Perhaps this was the most comfortable way for her to get along with him.
Thinking of this, she heaved a sigh of relief and picked up her utensils.
After this meal, both of them were very satisfied.
When it was time for them to clear the table, Yvonne beat James to it. She said, "Let me do it."
She took the cutlery from James and took the initiative to clean up.
James was naturally happy to see her being so eager all of a sudden.
He did not stop her but cleaned up with her.
Time passed slowly as the two of them got along more and more harmoniously.
It was finally time to discuss cooperation with White Enterprise.
James had already made preparations when Yvonne mentioned it a few days ago.
Early in the morning, Yvonne went to the company with James.
After they entered the office, James told Yvonne that he was going to discuss cooperation with Grace today.
Yvonne felt a little uncomfortable when she heard that.
She had not intended to work with Grace.
However, in the face of her threat, Yvonne had no choice but to compromise.
Although her mother had passed away and reputation meant little to her, Yvonne still would not allow others to pin the blame on her mother.
Furthermore, it was someone that her mother hated the most when she was alive.
Yvonne felt much more at ease when she thought of that.
"Thank you for your hard work," she said to James.
James smiled at her and said, "It’s just regular work and is not that hard. Let’s go and watch how things play out."
James was about to leave with the document, but when he saw that she was not following behind him, he asked, "What’s the matter? Don’t you want to go and see?"
...
Yvonne hesitated for a moment before replying, "No, I won’t go."
She didn’t want to face Grace on such an occasion.
She didn’t have the confidence to face her.
After all, she was only an amateur in business.
Grace was the exact opposite. She was a professional when it came to business.
James noticed her concerns and stop coaxing her. He just comforted and assured her, "Don’t worry, just wait for my good news."
Yvonne nodded. She watched him leave. Then, she turned around and returned to her desk.
She glanced at the documents on the table and began to sort them out since she had nothing better to do anyway.
In the conference room.
Grace was already waiting inside the room when James went in. She slowly stood up when she saw him.
"Mr. Taylor."
She offered her hand to James for a handshake.
James merely stared at her outstretched hand but he didn’t reach out to shake it.
Instead, he ignored her. Then he walked to his seat and sat down.
Grace stood there awkwardly, but she quickly recovered from her surprise. She sat opposite him and said, "Let’s get down to business since you’re here now."
She flipped open the document and was about to say something, but she was stopped by James.
"Wait, before we get down to business, I have something to ask you."
Grace wondered. "Please go on."
James continued, "I wonder if you are willing to work with a third party, Ms. White?"
Grace furrowed her eyebrows warily. "What do you mean?"
James noticed the sudden change in her expression and sneered. "You don’t need to get so worked up, Ms. White. Both of us know, there are many other companies Taylor Group could work with for this project. Plus, the White Enterprise is not the most suitable company for this project. Business is business. But since Yvonne mentioned you, I’ve decided to work with your company. However, I still think that it’s better to have a third party to join this project."
Grace could clearly hear the disdain in his tone.
This was undoubtedly an insult to her, but she endured it since she was here to cooperate with him. Her top priority was to ensure that the contract was signed and things went on smoothly.
So she furrowed her eyebrows and replied, "Mr. Taylor, this is a deal that has been set. Why should we allow a third party to interfere? Besides, our families are tied together with a marriage. We’ll only become more powerful if we work together. There’s no need for a third party to meddle in the business."
It was obvious that Grace was refusing his request.
James had expected her reaction so he continued.
"That’s true, but we’re a profit-oriented company. I’m pretty sure that you’re clear about your company’s state now."
Grace remained silent. She tried to restrain herself from showing any emotions.
James continued, "Yvonne was the reason why I’ve decided to work with you. But that’s a separate matter, Ms. White. You can’t trade with nothing in return. Taylor Group can’t be taking all the risk for this project."
Grace shot James a sharp look when she heard him.
He ignored her and continued, "That’s why we should get a third party in this deal to reduce Taylor Group’s risk."
"But, you didn’t mention a third party in our deal in our previous discussions." Grace retorted.
James explained, "Yes, it wasn’t in the initial agreement. But we haven’t signed the contract yet. We can amend the clauses any time, right?"
Grace was speechless after she heard him.
She let out a sigh and tried to calm herself down. "Alright, if that’s the case, why don’t you tell me who’s the third party you had in mind?"
