Chapter 110: Chapter 110
"Are you coming back, Daddy?"
Ethan felt a sharp pang in his heart at Calvin’s question. The sadness wasn’t just in the boy’s voice—it was written all over his face. Lane noticed it too, pulling their son into a tight hug from behind.
Instead of giving a quick answer, Ethan knelt down to get on the boy’s level.
"Of course, Calvin. Daddy’s coming back. I just have some things to take care of," he promised.
In truth, he wanted nothing more than to stay. There was a unique kind of peace he felt when he was with his family, and he hated to leave it. But he had to deal with the fallout between Calvin and Tyler.
He needed to have a serious talk with Tyler about what had been said at the school.
Tyler was his son too, but Ethan wasn’t about to let him get away with insulting Calvin or Lane. Sure, Calvin shouldn’t have thrown a punch, and he and Lane had already set him straight on that, but Ethan understood why it happened.
Calvin loved his Mommy, and those insults had pushed him over the edge.
Ethan was mostly curious about how a four-year-old even knew a word like flirt.
Someone had to have put those ideas in his head, and he was pretty sure he knew who. He wanted his boys to be close eventually, but he knew Tyler was going to be the tough one to convince. It was going to be a slow process.
"Promise, Daddy?" Calvin asked, holding up a hand like he was taking an oath. Ethan mirrored the gesture, raising his own hand.
"Promise. I’ll be back soon."
"Okay, Daddy. Take care," Calvin said, leaning in to give him a quick kiss on the cheek.
"I’m heading out, Lane," Ethan said, turning to her.
She gave him a small nod. "Be careful."
"I will." With one last goodbye, he turned and walked out.
He headed straight for the parking lot, hopped in his car, and peeled out. It didn’t take long for him to reach Olivia’s building. He parked and made his way to her door, his face a total mask of stone.
He pressed the doorbell and waited. A few seconds later, the door swung open to reveal Olivia with a huge smile on her face.
She must’ve seen him on the peephole and thought he was there for a social call.
Ethan didn’t smile back.
"Ethan!"
"Where’s Tyler?" he asked immediately. He didn’t want to give her any room to think this was about them or to get her hopes up like she had after their last meeting.
Her smile faltered for a second, but she forced it back and stepped aside to let him in. "Come in. He’s in the living room."
Ethan walked in without a word. He found Tyler on the sofa, eyes glued to a phone. He couldn’t help but compare the two households.
Lane was always hands-on, actually playing and bonding with Calvin. Olivia just used a screen as a babysitter. It was clear who was doing the better job at this whole parenting thing.
"Tyler, your Dad’s here," Olivia called out.
The boy looked up, his face lighting up. "Daddy!"
"I’ll leave you guys to it. I’m gonna go fix some snacks," Olivia said.
Ethan ignored her and sat down next to his son, looking at the bruise on his cheek.
"Does it still hurt, buddy?" he asked gently.
"It still hurts, Daddy," Tyler replied. Then, his expression turned sour.
"Daddy, I want to get back at Calvin. I want to punch him in the face."
Ethan frowned. "Retaliating is wrong, Tyler. You shouldn’t do that."
"But Mommy said I should. She told me to punch him back."
Ethan’s jaw tightened. "Your Mommy told you that?"
Tyler nodded. "Yeah. So next time I see him, I’m gonna hit him."
Ethan was fuming. He couldn’t believe Olivia was teaching their son to be vengeful, especially while acting like she was the victim back at the school. It confirmed his worst suspicions.
"Tyler," Ethan said, his voice flat.
"Did your Mommy also tell you that Calvin was trying to steal me away? Did she tell you his Mommy was a flirt?"
"Ethan, have some snacks!" Olivia’s voice cut in, sounding high-pitched and nervous.
He looked up to see her standing there, pale and shaking slightly. She rushed over.
"T-Tyler, let’s get you changed before you eat."
"I’m asking a question, Olivia," Ethan said, his voice firm and dangerous. He didn’t need Tyler to answer anymore. The look on Olivia’s face said it all.
He looked back at his son. "Tyler, is that what she said?"
"Yes, Daddy," the boy whispered.
Ethan clenched his fists, taking a deep breath to keep from losing his temper in front of the kid.
"Tyler, go to your room for a minute. I need to talk to your Mom."
"Okay, Daddy."
Once the door clicked shut, Ethan stood up. Olivia looked like she was about to faint.
"I warned you, Olivia, and you didn’t listen," Ethan said, his voice vibrating with anger.
"What kind of mother teaches her kid to be hateful? I can’t believe this is who you really are. I actually regret ever loving you."
Olivia looked devastated, but Ethan wasn’t done.
"This is your final warning. And I mean final. If I ever catch you filling Tyler’s head with this nonsense again, I will take him. I’ll file for full custody and you’ll never see him again. You know I’m not playing around."
...
When Ethan finally left her condo, Olivia let out a scream of pure rage. She was livid—at Ethan, at Lane, and especially at their kid, Calvin.
Everything was falling apart because of them. No matter how hard she tried to wreck Lane’s life, Ethan wouldn’t budge, and Lane seemed perfectly happy to stay right where she was.
"Damn you, Lane!" Olivia hissed.
Did her cousin really think she’d won? Did she think she could just walk away with Ethan and live happily ever after? She was dead wrong. Olivia wasn’t about to sit back and be miserable while Lane played house. If Olivia was going down, she was dragging Lane right into the dirt with her.
And as for Ethan, did he really think his threats scared her? She wasn’t afraid. Even if he followed through and took her kid, it might actually work in her favor. If Tyler lived with him, the boy would officially be an Blackwood for life.
Thinking of Tyler made her blood boil all over again. The little traitor had told Ethan the truth—that she was the one coaching him to pick fights with Calvin.
Because of his big mouth, she’d officially blown her last slim chance of ever getting Ethan back.
She had specifically told him to keep his mouth shut about their lessons, but he’d folded and told the truth anyway, making Ethan hate her even more. She clenched her fists, her face twisting with anger as she started toward the room where Tyler was hiding.
She was going to teach him a lesson he wouldn’t forget about obeying orders.
Olivia had only taken a few steps when the sound of the doorbell stopped her cold.
Her expression shifted instantly. Her face lit up at the thought that it might be Ethan coming back. Maybe he’d regretted what he said and wanted to apologize. The rage she felt seconds ago vanished, replaced by a smug smile.
She quickly checked herself in the mirror, running her fingers through her hair before heading to the door. She put on her sweetest smile and pulled it open.
"I knew you’d—"
The words died in her throat. It wasn’t Ethan. Her smile dropped the second she saw who was actually standing there.
Once the shock wore off, a wave of cold nervousness hit her. She peered out into the hallway, relieved to see that Ethan was long gone. The last thing she needed was for those two to run into each other.
She turned back to the man, her eyes narrowing.
"What the hell are you doing here, Nathan?" she asked, her voice like ice.
He just cocked an eyebrow. "What am I doing here?" he repeated. "You know exactly why I’m here, Olivia."
Instead of answering, she tried to slam the door in his face, but Nathan was too fast. He shoved his foot in the way and forced himself inside. She had to scramble back as he barged into the room.
"What do you think you’re doing?" she snapped. "Get out, Nathan. You aren’t welcome here."
He ignored her completely, walking over to the sofa and making himself at home. He leaned back and gave her a look that made her skin crawl.
"Where’s my son, Olivia?"
Her jaw dropped, but she quickly snapped it shut.
"What... what are you talking about? You don’t have a kid with me, Nathan."
She cursed herself for the slight tremor in her voice. She pointed a shaking finger at the door.
"Leave. Now. While I’m still being nice, before I call the cops."
Nathan didn’t look even a little bit intimidated.
"Go ahead, Olivia. Call ’em. Let’s clear the air once and for all," he said.
"I’m sure everyone would love to know exactly who I am to you."
"Fuck you! What do you want from me?" she screamed, her frustration hitting a breaking point.
"My kid. I want to meet him," he said, his voice flat and serious.
"Why are you so obsessed? I already told you, you don’t have a kid with me!"
"Tyler," he said, dropping the name like a bomb. Olivia’s hands balled into fists. "That’s our boy’s name, right?"
"No!" she shot back.
Nathan stood up and started walking toward her. Olivia couldn’t help but take a step back.
"Do you really think I’m an idiot, Olivia? You think I wouldn’t find out about Tyler?"
"You. Have. No. Child. With. Me," she gritted out, punctuating every word.
He gave her a confident, greasy smirk.
"Fine. If you won’t introduce us, I’ll just go ask Ethan. I know him, you know. We actually crossed paths in the hallway just now. What if I just go back and tell him the truth?"
He didn’t even wait for her to react before turning toward the door. Panic flared in Olivia’s chest. She lunged forward and grabbed his arm to stop him.
Nathan couldn’t talk to Ethan. If Ethan found out the truth, she was finished.
Tyler was the only thing keeping her connected to the Blackwood family. If that link was broken, Ethan would cut her out of his life forever.
Because the truth was, Tyler wasn’t a Blackwood .He was Nathan’s. He was the result of the secret affair she’d had behind Ethan’s back years ago.
She’d met Nathan at a bar during a night out with friends, and what started as a one-night stand turned into a regular thing.
She’d kept it hidden because she knew Ethan would dump her in a heartbeat if he found out, and she wasn’t about to lose her ticket to the Blackwood fortune. Her father’s biggest wish was for her to marry into that wealth so she could live like a queen without ever lifting a finger.
But Lane had ruined everything by getting pregnant first. Olivia was still pissed that Ethan had actually agreed to marry her cousin just to "do the right thing." Back then, whenever Ethan was too busy with work to pay her attention, she’d run straight to Nathan.
Eventually, Nathan took her away to some middle-of-nowhere town where they lived together. That was when she got pregnant. She wasn’t ready to be a mother and even considered an abortion, but she changed her mind at the last second. Instead of telling Nathan, she just packed her bags and vanished again.
She went into hiding, but halfway through the pregnancy, her father tracked her down. He told her she had to come back to New York and take Ethan back. He told her not to let Lane outshine her or take what was rightfully hers.
That was when Olivia came up with her master plan. Her kid would have a much better future if Ethan was the father. Ethan had money.
Nathan had nothing. So she went back, looked Ethan in the eye, and lied through her teeth. She faked the timeline of the pregnancy, and her father handled the rest by tampering with the DNA results.
To this day, Ethan actually believed Tyler was his.
Olivia took a deep breath, feeling defeated. "What do you want, Nathan?"
"Two things."
"Which are?"
"First, I want to see my son," he said. "And second... I want you." Before she could even process that, Nathan grabbed her and kissed her hard.
Olivia tried to fight him off at first, but he was too strong. His kiss got more intense, and when he forced his tongue into her mouth, her resolve started to crumble.
Slowly, she stopped fighting and began to sink into the kiss.
