Chapter 116: Chapter 116
Lane lowered her gaze when she felt her son tugging at the hem of her dress. They had just stepped out of the car after Ethan opened the door for them.
"Mommy?"
"Hmm?"
"Mommy, whose house is this? It’s so huge," Calvin asked, wide-eyed.
"It’s your Daddy’s house, Calvin," she replied.
They were back at Ethan’s mansion. After their getaway to Richmond and his proposal, he’d suggested that she and Calvin move in with him.
He’d argued it was a better setup because the house has plenty of room, a massive garden for Calvin to run around in, and that swimming pool the kid was obsessed with. Back in Richmond, Calvin had even made a wish for a pool so his Daddy could teach him how to swim.
Ethan had made it clear it was entirely up to her. If she wasn’t comfortable in the mansion because of their history, he was fine with that. He just wanted her to be happy.
He’d even offered to build a new house or buy a fresh place for their future family. But Lane told him that wasn’t necessary. The mansion was more than enough.
As for the uncomfortable memories? She’d already moved past all that.
So, she agreed. They were moving back into his house, but this time, they were a real family.
Calvin was about to say something else when Ethan cut in.
"It’s our house, Lane," he said, correcting her.
They both turned to see him walking toward them, loaded down with their bags.
"Huh?"
"This house belongs to all of us—"
"Your house is huge, Daddy," Calvin remarked.
Ethan grinned. "And you’re gonna have your very own room here."
Calvin’s eyes lit up. "For real, Daddy?"
"For real."
But then, Calvin’s face fell. Ethan caught it immediately. "What’s wrong, buddy?"
"Daddy, is Mommy still gonna be in my new room with me?" he asked, clearly realizing why he wasn’t so sure about the new setup.
"Nope," Ethan answered quickly. "Your Mommy is staying in my room."
Calvin shook his head vigorously. "Daddy, I don’t want that! I want Mommy with me. I want to sleep next to her."
Lane stayed quiet, letting the two of them hash it out. Ethan reached out with his free hand and ruffled his son’s hair.
"Calvin, if you’re always stuck to your Mommy, how are you gonna get a sibling? Don’t you want a baby brother or sister?"
Lane’s eyes nearly popped out of her head.
"Ethan!" she hissed.
Ethan shot her a quick look before turning back to Calvin. "So, what do you think, kiddo? You still wanna hog your Mommy?"
If Calvin was against it before, he was totally sold now. He didn’t want to be next to her anymore. "Just make lots of babies, Daddy, okay?"
Lane turned bright red while Ethan let out a chuckle. "How many we talking?"
Calvin held up one hand, all five fingers spread wide. Lane’s jaw dropped.
"You want five?" Ethan laughed.
"Yes, Daddy!"
"Alright. But that’s up to your mom. She’s the boss on whether we go for five."
Before Calvin could look up and interrogate her, she hurried them along. "Okay, let’s just get inside."
Ethan flashed her a wicked grin. She went to pinch his waist, but he was too fast, catching her hand in his.
She tried to pull away, but he intertwined their fingers and held on tight, so she eventually just let him. Seeing them, Calvin, the literal carbon copy of his father, decided to copy the move and grabbed her other hand.
Lane just shook her head. Her husband and son were something else. Seriously clingy.
With both of them anchoring her, they stepped into the mansion.
They didn’t get far before they were stopped by a welcoming committee. The entire household staff was lined up to greet them, along with Lily and some other familiar faces.
Even Aunt Catherine and Uncle Victor were there. Once the shock wore off, Lane couldn’t help but smile at the staff holding up a "Welcome Home" banner.
"Welcome home, Lane and Calvin," Aunt Catherine said, beaming.
Calvin let go of her hand and sprinted toward his grandmother. "Grandma!"
Aunt Catherine scooped him up into a hug. "I missed you, Grandma," Calvin chirped.
"I missed you too, my dear," she laughed. He hopped down to give Uncle Victor a hug next.
"Hey there, Grandpa!"
Ethan started to step forward to join them, but a high-pitched voice stopped everyone cold.
"Daddy!"
Lane and Ethan both turned around. The smile died on Lane’s face when she saw Tyler, Ethan’s son with Lianne, standing there with his nanny.
Tyler ran straight for Ethan and threw his arms around him. Lane felt Ethan’s hand slip from hers as Tyler monopolized his attention.
She felt a presence at her side and looked down to see Calvin watching the whole thing. He was staring at Ethan, who was currently occupied with Tyler.
"Daddy?"
Ethan looked over at Calvin, and the second Tyler heard the voice, he let go of his father and glared in their direction. He scowled the moment he saw Calvin.
"What are you doing in my Daddy’s house?" Tyler demanded.
"This is my Daddy’s house too!"
Lane’s mouth dropped. She couldn’t believe Calvin actually answered back. Usually, when Tyler got possessive, her son would just shut down, but it looked like he was finally standing his ground.
"Daddy?" Tyler scoffed.
"Yeah. Daddy Ethan is my real Daddy," Calvin shot back.
"No, he’s not! You’re a liar!" Tyler screamed.
"You’re trying to steal my Daddy again!"
Calvin started to say something else, but Lane put a hand on his shoulder and pulled him close.
"Tyler," Ethan said, his voice dropping into a warning tone. "What did I tell you? We don’t shout."
"Daddy, he’s lying! He said you’re his Daddy, but you’re not!"
Out of the corner of her eye, Lane saw Lily quietly gesturing for the rest of the staff to clear out.
"I’m not lying. It’s the truth. He is my real Daddy," Calvin insisted.
Tyler looked like he was about to charge at Calvin, but Ethan’s voice boomed through the hallway.
"Tyler!"
Ethan was vibrating with restrained anger, and it showed all over his face. When Tyler saw the look in his father’s eyes, he burst into tears.
"You don’t love me anymore, Daddy! You love Calvin now, not me!" Tyler wailed.
Lane gripped Calvin a little tighter. Ethan glanced at her, looking completely torn and out of his depth. She gave him a small, reassuring smile and mouthed, Talk to Tyler. Calvin and I will go upstairs.
He took a deep breath and nodded back. Thank you, he mouthed.
She gave him one last look before taking Calvin’s hand. "Let’s head upstairs for a bit, sweetie."
Calvin didn’t want to leave, but he followed her as she led him away, his eyes glued to Ethan and Tyler until they were out of sight. They headed up to the second floor and straight into the master suite.
"Mommy?" Calvin asked as she sat him down on the edge of the bed.
"Hmm?"
"Is Tyler my brother?"
Lane opened her mouth to answer but found herself struggling for the right words. She really wanted Ethan there for this talk so they could explain it as a team.
She took a breath. "Calvin, can we wait until your Daddy comes up? I want him to be here when we talk about it."
Calvin, always the good kid, just nodded. "Okay, Mommy. I’ll wait for Daddy."
"Thanks, baby."
She felt incredibly lucky to have such an understanding son.
.....
Lane looked away from her computer screen the second she heard the intercom buzz.
She picked it up to answer the call.
"Hello?"
"Good morning, Ma’am Lane," her secretary greeted her from the other end.
"Yes?"
"Ma’am, I just wanted to check if you had a personal appointment with a Ma’am Ivy," she asked.
"I’m looking at your schedule, and I don’t see anyone named Ivy on the list."
Her secretary had already briefed her on who she was supposed to meet today, and she knew for a fact that this woman wasn’t one of them.
"I don’t have a personal appointment with any Ivy. I don’t even know her," she replied.
"Ivy?"
A moment later, Lane looked up at Ethan as he spoke. He had just stepped out of the bathroom and was looking at her, clearly having overheard the name. Lane couldn’t help but take note of it, because for the first time, Ethan actually seemed interested.
"What was the name of the person outside, Lane?"
"She said it’s Ivy," she answered.
"You know her?" she asked, keeping her eyes locked on him to catch his reaction.
He nodded.
"Yeah, I know her," he said.
Lane’s eyebrows shot up as she watched him. She noticed a small smile tugging at his lips after he admitted he knew who Ivy was. So, the lady outside wasn’t looking for her. She was looking for Ethan. And who the hell was Ivy, anyway?
Even without looking in a mirror, Lane knew she was wearing a massive pout. Ethan must have noticed it too, because his lips curled into a smirk.
She scowled even harder, turning her attention back to the intercom.
"She’s here for Ethan," she said, unable to hide the annoyance in her voice. She didn’t even wait for her secretary to respond before slamming the phone down.
She heard Ethan chuckle, clearly amused by what he was seeing.
She ignored him, focusing all her energy on her laptop. A moment later, there was a soft knock at the door. She stayed silent, her eyes glued to the screen.
"Come in," she heard Ethan say. Her pout deepened. It seemed Ethan couldn’t wait to see this Ivy woman.
The door opened, and her secretary walked in. "Sir, Miss Ivy is here," she informed Ethan.
"Good morning, Sir."
When Lane heard that voice, she stole a quick glance at the newcomer. She saw a stunning woman standing there, and for a split second, Lane couldn’t help but feel a wave of insecurity wash over her.
"Good morning, Miss Ivy," Ethan said.
Lane looked away, but a moment later, she heard Ethan calling her name.
"Lane?"
She looked up at him but stayed quiet.
"Come here," he beckoned.
She pouted again, debating whether she should actually move, but she eventually stood up from her swivel chair and walked over to him. And when she came closer, he possessively wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her closer to his body.
"Anyway, Miss Ivy, this is Lane, my wife," Ethan said, introducing her.
"And Lane, this is Miss Ivy, our wedding coordinator."
Lane’s eyes went wide. Her expression froze as she glanced back at Ethan. She felt her cheeks start to burn when she saw the huge grin on his face as he looked down at her.
Her cheeks turned even redder as he leaned in close to whisper in her ear. "Don’t be jealous, love. You know it’s only you. I see no one else but you," he whispered.
She cleared her throat and turned to face Ivy, who was still smiling at the two of them.
"Hi!" she managed to say when their eyes met.
"Once more, Ma’am, I’m Ivy from Jackson Events," she introduced herself again.
"Sir Ethan hired me to help you with the wedding prep."
Hearing this, Lane looked at Ethan again. She had no idea he’d already hired a coordinator. In fact, they hadn’t even set a date yet.
After the proposal, wedding talk had been put on the back burner because of a new problem.
And that problem was Tyler. On the day Tyler went to Ethan’s mansion and saw them, Ethan had sat him down and told him the truth. He explained that Calvin was his son and that the two boys were brothers.
Tyler had a total meltdown. No matter what Ethan did, he couldn’t calm the kid down, so he eventually had to take him back to his mom.
A week had passed, but the kid still hadn’t accepted that Ethan had another child. She knew because Ethan gave her the update every time he went to visit Tyler.
On the other hand, her son, Calvin, had been a total champ and understood the situation the second they explained it.
"Like I said, I want to marry you again, Lane. And I want us to get married in a church before the month ends. I want everyone, friends and family, to witness us becoming one before God. I want the whole world to know I’m marrying the woman I love so much, the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with."
