When facing a crowd, the opening moments of a fight were always the most dangerous. The fight started when the enemy still had the most bodies standing, which meant every second mattered. Cutting down their numbers as fast as possible was the only way to stay alive. If momentum slipped and the fight dragged into a stalemate, things got ugly fast.
Because of that, Do-Jin decided to burn his firepower right out of the gate. He unleashed Transcendence and the Grimoire of Truth at the same time. With a carefully calculated spell, he blew one man’s head clean off, then took off at full speed.
Do-Jin released the psychokinetic energy he had compressed in sequence, stacking acceleration on top of acceleration. The resulting speed was enough to surprise even him. A thunderous blast cracked through the air, followed by a vicious tearing sound. While he was airborne, a vortex-wrapped arrow screamed straight toward him.
The instant Do-Jin saw it, he redirected the vector of his psychokinetic output. Changing force direction in the middle of high-speed movement sent his body flying, momentum and counterforce colliding and flinging him into the air. With his body arched wildly, Do-Jin fired off multiple bursts of psychokinesis, correcting his trajectory in real time. A heartbeat later, he was back in high-speed motion.
“Is that guy fucking insane? Who the hell moves like that?” the archer who fired the shot shouted.
He had every right to complain. Even Do-Jin himself couldn’t fully predict his own movements. He was making decisions on instinct, frame by frame. From the perspective of someone trying to hit him, it was pure bullshit.
“There’s no way that doesn’t take a toll on his body. Keep firing!”
Under normal circumstances, the physical and magical strain on Do-Jin should have been catastrophic, so Decane’s judgment made perfect sense.
It just didn’t apply to Do-Jin. His body, reinforced by multiple traits tangled together into something obscene, was far too sturdy against this level of stress. He pulled off wide arcs, snapped into right-angle turns, and moved in all three dimensions without slowing down.
This is actually kind of fun,Do-Jin thought as he slipped past incoming attacks by hair-thin margins.
When the ground came rushing at him, he planted a hand, kicked off hard, and launched himself forward again. At the same time, he hurled a Flame Spear at Decane.
The intended target slashed the air, spreading a curtain of black flame that consumed Do-Jin’s spell whole.
What an annoying little fly. Once I close the distance, I’m the one with the advantage.
Decane believed in his ability. Black Flame combined ridiculous offense and defense, making it a nightmare in close quarters.
If I can just close the gap—
His thoughts were interrupted as the curtain of black flame fell, revealing Do-Jin. Lightning wrapped around his body as he slammed his fist straight into the face of the swordsman charging at him.
“What—?”
Until that moment, Decane had assumed Do-Jin would keep playing hit-and-run and drag the fight out. He was dead wrong. With Transcendence active, Do-Jin had zero interest in wasting time.
“I just wanna play a fucking game. Why are you assholes losing your minds?” someone nearby said while drawing a bow.
Do-Jin didn’t bother responding, instead reaching out and calling for Anemone. A wolf-shaped spirit burst from his fingertips with acceleration that outpaced even Do-Jin’s. She closed the distance instantly and bit down, crushing bow and hand together in one vicious snap.
“Aaaagh!”
Anemone, strengthened alongside Do-Jin, wasn’t an opponent a single archer could deal with. At this distance, the outcome was never in doubt.
“W-wait, protect me first, ghk!” A healer took a fireball full-on and crashed across the ground.
Decane tried to respond immediately, but the storm of lightning raging around Do-Jin forced him to throw up another barrier of black flame instead.
“Fuck!”
Against a normal mage, Decane would have tanked a hit or two and forced his way in, but Do-Jin’s damage output made that impossible. From a damage dealer’s perspective, failing to prioritize defense here meant instant collapse. There was no room to breathe, let alone mount a clean offense.
That was when Benga, the group’s tank, finally moved. He had been waiting for an opening, and now he charged in from behind Do-Jin with his shield raised.
Today’s the day Benga’s channel fucking explodes. Can’t have this bastard taking the spotlight. All I need is one solid hit to the back of his head. One stun will be enough.
When Do-Jin turned around and made eye contact with him, Benga’s heart dropped straight into his stomach. However, it was already too late to stop, the momentum from the skill forcing him forward.
As Do-Jin raised a finger and pointed it toward the ground, Benga immediately assumed he was aiming for an attack from below. Mages targeting a shielded tank’s feet had been the meta for a long time now, and he was fully aware of that. However, Do-Jin wasn’t aiming at the ground at all. The rock he forced upward targeted the underside of Benga’s shield.
“Ghk!”
The force from below sent Benga’s shield snapping upward.
Breaking a tank’s defensive stance was never easy, but games were ultimately nothing more than numbers smashing into numbers. With Transcendence active, Do-Jin wasn’t about to lose a stat check. For a split second, Benga lost both his defensive skills and the protection provided by his shield.
Slow him down. Lock him in place. Stack the damage until it snowballed out of control.
A clean combo of Frozen Arrow, Discharge, and some Fireballs left Benga completely helpless. Even while doing all of that, Do-Jin never let up on zoning the rest of them, denying every single attempt to interfere.
PvP was a turn-based fight. Do-Jin understood perfectly that the moment someone dropped tempo and gave up their turn, they lost control of the fight. So he dragged his opening advantage out as long as possible.
“U-UAAAAAGH!”
Anemone, having already finished off the archer, tore straight into the healer on her own. By the time the screaming stopped, only Decane remained.
Forced to do nothing but defend with Black Flame Curtains against Do-Jin’s absurd casting speed, Decane ground his teeth. “This is fucking ridiculous... hah...”
For the first time in his life, Decane understood why people laughed when things became too absurd. The guildmates he had been talking to just moments ago, dreaming up grand plans, were now corpses scattered across the ground.
With black flames still wrapped around his sword, Decane stared at Do-Jin, who still looked like he was burning in gold. “We didn’t even do anything to you, so what the hell is this? You jump us out of nowhere and start a fight like this just for attention? Thought you’d put on a show since people are watching?”
Even as he spoke, Decane was desperately thinking, There’s no way he can keep spamming spells like that forever. Burnout is coming soon. Sustained damage, defense, and endurance are all on my side. More importantly, I know him and he doesn’t know me.
Do-Jin’s combat style and abilities were already widespread knowledge. Decane, on the other hand, had never once shown his full hand. If he played this right, he could still win.
“A show, my ass.” Do-Jin sneered.
As he ran a hand through his hair, the mana wrapped around his body evaporated like mist.
“I just came to clean up something that pissed me off.”
Decane’s brow twitched at that comment.
“You could’ve kept farming monsters like usual. You really came all the way out here and pulled this suicidal bullshit for that reason alone?” Decane jerked his chin toward the air.
Do-Jin knew right away he was referring to the system message.
“Looks like you got it too,” Do-Jin said. “Things got tangled up, and this quest popped up. Still, it’s fair, right? If you die, you’re done. Same rules for both of us.”
“I can’t tell if you’re arrogant or just fucking stupid,” Decane said. “You knew that and still rushed in like this?”
“Yeah, I guess so. But you should be relieved. The results are looking pretty good.” Do-Jin gestured around them.
“We’ll see who the results favor once this is over!”
Decane ground his teeth, then lashed out with his sword in a sudden strike. The compressed black flames exploded outward and surged toward Do-Jin.
He still has a survival skill left. I need to force it out.
Just as Decane hoped, Do-Jin’s strongest survival skill activated. From Do-Jin’s perspective, it was a card he had to play anyway once Transcendence was active, so there was no reason to hold Limited Reversion back.
“You really should’ve stopped jerking yourself off sooner!”
To Decane, this felt like the perfect chance.
If he creates distance, anything can happen. He fucked up by staying close. I need to end this now.
With the gap still tight, Decane committed everything. He drove his sword into the ground and unleashed his power.
“Black Flame Domain.”
The moment the blade sank in, black flames flooded the area. It was a zone that inflicted continuous damage on every living thing except Decane himself. Anyone who realized the damage was ticking would instinctively try to escape, but it’d be too late.
This domain buffed the activation speed, power, and range of every black flame skill. The moment someone panicked and moved, black flames would erupt from all sides, leaving no room to respond.
However, Do-Jin made no attempt to escape.
“What the fuck?”
Do-Jin chose offense. While Decane was busy deploying Black Flame Domain, the Flame Cannon he had already prepared fired. Decane hurriedly threw up a wall of black flames to defend.
It doesn’t matter. Nothing has ever broken through my wall.
The wall held for a split second before Do-Jin’s Flame Cannon punched straight through, scraping past Decane’s side. He stood frozen in disbelief, his confidence shattered.
Meanwhile, Do-Jin was already preparing the next spell. This one had a short casting time and an even shorter activation period.
That wall might be versatile in both offense and defense, but it doesn’t mean it’s invincible, Do-Jin thought.
Although no one knew where Decane had acquired his terrifying black flames, they still had a discernible weakness. The defense formed from those black flames worked by canceling incoming attacks with overwhelming offensive power. Because the flames hit so hard, they had always felt untouchable, but Do-Jin’s firepower simply exceeded them.
Once he is forced into defense, he can’t switch back to offense.
Decane thought he had the information advantage when it came to their abilities. In reality, Do-Jin knew Decane better than Decane knew himself. More specifically, he knew the future Decane, the one who would take this power far beyond what it was now.
“Wait, hold on! What the fuck is this supposed to be? You’re doing all this over killing a few NPCs?” Decane screamed while barely holding back Do-Jin’s relentless barrage. “Wait, wait, you fucking psycho! If I die here, it says my character gets deleted! Did you even read that shit? You can’t just kill people like this!”
Do-Jin kept casting past all the meaningless noise. Although his HP continued to drop, Decane’s fell much faster as spell after spell slipped through his defenses. Eventually, Decane failed to keep up, the firepower and speed overwhelming him. A spell tore straight through his abdomen.
“W-wait. Please. Just stop for a second. Listen to me,” Decane cried as he collapsed to his knees.
“You didn’t listen either,” Do-Jin finally responded, thinking of all those people who had to beg for their lives.
“What the fu—”
Before Decane could get in another word, Do-Jin ended it.
“Aaaaaaah!”
The scream didn’t stop. Even though he was dead, the voice kept going. Decane looked around in confusion. The world was faded and blurred. Other people were there too, but they were the ones who were already dead.
“You fucking bastard! This is your fault!” said one of his deceased party members.
“Shut the fuck up! You were the one begging to get in on this!” Decane replied.
“Why can’t I log out, you piece of shit?! Let me out! Let me the fuck out!”
They flailed in panic like ghosts. This place was a midpoint, the boundary between Lostania and the outside world.
The quest led Do-Jin to the edge of the trap. Drawing the Star-Forged Sword, he stepped into the fractured dimension that held them, then carried out the quest objective by executing six souls with it.
“Please! Fuck, please! I’ll sue you! I swear I’ll fucking sue you!”
“What kind of bullshit is this?! This is cyber murder!”
Do-Jin swung the starlight as if he couldn’t hear them. As always, he saved Decane for last. The man screamed and thrashed like an animal.
“Why are you taking this so seriously?” Do-Jin calmly asked with a crooked smile. “It’s just a game. You said it yourself. It’s only a game.”
Starlight fell, and the final soul was expelled beyond the boundary. Countless eyes watched the entire thing unfold.
