"You! What exactly are you?!"

The look on the Ancestor’s face was flabbergasted and utterly horrified. It was clear he had never seen anything like this before.

Not to mention the fact that Uhtred was in the body of what was supposed to be a simple outer sect warrior, there was also the fact that even within the entire An clan, there was literally no one who could begin to replicate such a spell.

Worse still was the gruesome realization that his granddaughter needed to bond with such a hellish being just so she wouldn’t die.

From the ground, Uhtred watched every flickering emotion pass over the Ancestor’s face, his grin widening.

With a violent explosion, he shot straight into the air toward the old man.

Surprise colored the Ancestor’s face immediately. He hadn’t expected Uhtred to take off into the air at all. The sheer force behind the explosion was so immense that Uhtred reached the Ancestor’s hovering height in a single breath.

The old man sped away in an instant, narrowly dodging as Uhtred’s fist came charging straight at the space he had occupied a split second before.

Even as he retreated, the clothes on the Ancestor’s body spontaneously combusted. Being anywhere near Uhtred was deadly. The infernal heat rolling off his body was so blisteringly hot that it immediately scorched anything within ten meters of him.

One had to remember that the Ancestor was a formidable Nascent Realm figure. Uhtred didn’t know his exact level, but he knew the old man was far deeper into the realm than he was, sitting at a significantly higher level.

In fact, if Uhtred had to make a quick estimate, he would place the old man very close to the latter levels of the Nascent Realm.

Yet even a figure of that level refused to stay within ten meters of him. The area of effect generated by Inferno Violence was so extreme that even a near-peak Nascent Realm cultivator found the heat unbearable.

Uhtred’s Inferno Violence burned at white-hot levels, completely breaking past the standard red-orange flames he usually cast before.

For a third time within the span of a minute, the Ancestor’s eyes widened in shock. Experiencing Inferno Violence firsthand forced him to recalibrate his mental estimate of Uhtred’s true power.

"I can’t let him get close!" the Ancestor muttered sharply.

Abandoning his previous restraint, the old man thrust his hands forward, hurling a barrage of deadly compressed air strikes straight at Uhtred.

Yet, the billowing inferno surrounding Uhtred vaporized the strikes before they could even reach him. If anything, the air acted like fuel, feeding the inferno and causing it to surge with even greater intensity.

This was precisely why the Ancestor hated fire magic. If he were up against a much lower-level cultivator, his air strike was enough to snuff out their flames just from its overwhelming might and intensity.

In truth, Uhtred still fell into that "lower-level cultivator" category in terms of raw cultivation, but the domineering spell he had conjured was far beyond anything he should have been capable of casting.

It forced the Ancestor to reclassify him entirely. If he didn’t want his air attacks to simply serve as fuel for Uhtred’s inferno, he needed to treat the young man as not just his equal, but as someone that was a threat to his life.

He needed to attack like his life was on the line.

That was the dilemma.

Uhtred knew this, and he was thoroughly enjoying it. The moment his feet touched the ground, he propelled himself back into the air toward the Ancestor with shocking speed.

He couldn’t hover continuously in the air like the Ancestor, but the explosive force of his launches allowed him to threaten the floating old man repeatedly.

It seems he can’t go above a certain height...

Uhtred had noticed that the Ancestor only hovered at a height slightly above the forest tree line. It was as though whatever advanced form of magic he was using to keep himself aloft became much more difficult the higher he ascended in the air...

And Uhtred capitalized on that limitation furiously.

He refused to give the old man room to breathe. With every explosive leap, he closed the distance faster, shaving off unnecessary movements and refining his bursts into the air.

"Come on, old man! Is this all you’ve got?!"

The Ancestor kept dodging, clinging to the last bit of his restraint as he tried to drag out the fight, hoping to stall until he was truly forced to attack.

Uhtred roared.

As he launched into the air once more, predicting where the Ancestor would dodge, he released a blistering shockwave of fire directly from his core.

It spread out like a wave in every direction, incinerating everything in its path. The trees below had caught fire long ago, but everywhere the wave touched was reduced to ash in an instant.

The wave of white flame surged toward the Ancestor. Pushed to his limit, the old man let out a pained yell, releasing a furious burst of air essence to blow back the fire.

"That’s it, old man! It’s all or nothing! Either go all out or die right here!" Uhtred roared. His voice was full of vigor and fighting spirit, even more so than his usual self.

It seemed the violent nature of his Inferno spell went beyond just the flames alone... or rather, to achieve the spell, he needed to let loose, fully immersing himself in a state of pure violence.

He had created this spell during his months of seclusion back on Earth. During that time, he hadn’t just been cultivating alone, he had also experimented with lots of spells and ideas.

Inferno Violence was one of the new spells he conjured up after deducing something...

Up until now, his usage of spells had been somewhat free-form. Unlike other ascenders whose classes were highly specialized — like Zara’s Singularity Sovereign or Diya’s Healer Mage class — his class wasn’t.

It was the dilemma of having everything at his fingertips.

While he was flexible and could cast any element, reaching the same depth and power as a specialized elemental user was significantly harder.

Back in the Mortal Realm, that difference in depth had barely mattered. If one element proved ineffective against a target, he simply swapped to another on the fly.

But now that ascenders were pushing deeper into the Nascent Realm, that gap was becoming impossible to ignore.

His free-form elemental spells were no longer cutting it. He couldn’t just pump essence into a basic fire spell and expect to match someone with a specialized fire class anymore.

He realized he needed to change his approach.

Instead of simply pumping more power into basic spells, using any he wanted whenever he wanted, he decided to approach his formless nature from a different angle.

Just like those with specialized classes, he focused on depth in a single element, deepening his understanding of it as though that was his singular class alone.

Inferno Violence was one of the spells he’d developed as a result of focusing on the fire element.

It required him to manifest flames, not just as an extension of his essence, but from the very core of his being, physically tweaking every part of himself right down to his sub-core formation.

However, doing this was extremely taxing. Uhtred reckoned he had no more than ten minutes in this state before he would have to revert, or risk damaging his core.

Opposite him, the Ancestor let out a feral roar. His eyes were wide and bloodshot, his white hair nearly scorched to ash.

His regal air as a clan Ancestor was completely gone. He looked utterly tattered, having barely escaped Uhtred’s inferno wave in one piece. His clothes were totally burnt, with only a few loosely hanging rags protecting what remained of his dignity.

He glared at Uhtred with nothing but pure hate in his eyes.

"To think a mere insect like you has forced me into this corner!"

He had lost his mind entirely. He realized now that he had to kill Uhtred here to survive. He had reached the tipping point where the threat to his life had triggered his survival instinct to live.

Right now, that survival instinct overwhelmed any love he had for his granddaughter. The ritual artifact wouldn’t perish with her. Another talent could be bred, but not another clan Ancestor!

It was brutal, but he had finally been pushed to the point where he was willing to sacrifice Nayu...

"You want me to go all out?!" His tone became dark and ominous. "Fine then!"

He spread his arms wide, his remaining hair whipping wildly in the scorching winds. Slowly, he brought his palms together...

"Hollow Vacuum."
