Four Split Personalities

Motan still remembers, a few months ago while he was living it up in the Violet Empire, he would often have wide-ranging chats with the prince, Xiu Bresen.

Of course, the prince has now become the Prince Regent, who is implementing sweeping reforms, not only tightly holding the Baroque and Dundis families which form the core of power but also consistently embodying the true will of Violet. He even went so far... ahem, to propose marriage to the Clan Leader of the Crystal Wolf Family, who theoretically should be bisexual, but is now likely thoroughly turned heterosexual, the Grand Duke Emily.

It must be said, Xiu is someone rare enough to catch the eye of Motan (with a chaotic neutral predisposition), who admits Xiu’s caliber is by no means inferior to his own NPC ranking. Similarly, in the eyes of the unfathomable Prince Regent, both "Tan Mo" and "Double Leaf" are dangers he cannot write into stories, as they might inadvertently brew misfortunes.

Of course, the "misfortunes" here are not derogatory, as for Xiu Bresen, few can be this troublesome, let alone cause him anxiety, without an obvious disparity in power or resources.

Thus, even though he dismissed the idea of recruiting Motan into his circle as early as their second meeting, Xiu—quietly capable of toppling the entire Empire at that time—never contemplated distancing himself from the enigmatic Bard. Quite the opposite, he genuinely hoped to become friends with this intriguing Otherworlder, with whom he could talk candidly.

Not to cooperate directly, but to be friends who can lend a small hand when necessary.

As for the reason, both knew it well.

Motan evidently shared the same sentiment. After all, he had no interest in the affairs of being second to one and superior to others, nor did he want to linger long in Violet which would soon lose its novelty and amusement, leading to a harmonious relationship between these two somewhat similar personalities.

Incidentally, the chaotic neutral side of Motan and Double Leaf exemplifies a notably unharmonious pairing.

All in all, during that time, Xiu Bresen and Motan often made small talk at the [Female Bee]. Their topic range was immense, from the mechanics of flushing toilets in two worlds to exterminating the entire Marshall Family—there was nothing they couldn’t discuss.

During one such chat, Motan heard from Xiu about an incident that captured his interest, which can be simply summarized as—the Buffy Marshall escape event.

Following the ironclad incrimination by Sak Fris and, on judgment day, after Xiu exposed his fangs completing a second reversal, Buffy Marshall moved from ’house arrest’ to ’confinement’, imprisoned deep underground on the 16th level of [Grey Prison] in the Noble District of Sālāmù’ēn, repenting for his sins.

Then he left.

He... escaped from prison.

However, the escape itself wasn’t particularly noteworthy for the two of them; its nutritional value as a topic barely surpassed discussions like ’toilet flushing versus water element flushing for energy efficiency,’ because the prison escape was a necessary condition for the subsequent plan.

Without breaking free, how could they destroy him? Without destroying him, how could they annihilate his entire family? Without uprooting the entire family, would they keep those heretics around for festivities?

Xiu Bresen would never allow such a situation to occur, and neither he nor Motan believed Buffy Marshall would sacrifice himself for his family’s survival.

If the family hadn’t concealed Whisper Cultists, and even his children had committed early to the sect, Buffy might consider some aforementioned possibilities, but the world contains no ’what ifs.’ Buffy was well aware that the Marshall Family stood at the edge of an abyss from the moment he chose to collaborate with Evil God believers, and a mere thirty years was insufficient to seamlessly integrate heretics with the family, so...

If he remained alive, he might bury those threats deep before his passing.

If at least one of his children had retained half of Xiu Bresen’s competence, the problem wouldn’t be as dire.

But since both conditions were unmet, Buffy’s death would inevitably trigger a chain reaction that would expose the collaboration between the Whisper Sect and the Marshall Family.

Thus, he couldn’t afford to sit idly by. He had to escape to seize a chance to overturn the situation.

Having anticipated this, Xiu and Motan naturally knew Buffy would attempt a prison break, so they implemented corresponding measures, like...

Relaxing the guards of the Grey Prison somewhat, and tampering with Buffy’s restraints.

Indeed, although their motives were starkly different, even wholly opposite, Buffy’s escape was a crucial factor for both parties in achieving their aims.

Therefore, the issue was never about Buffy’s escape itself but rather his method of escaping.

Vanishing from the Grey Prison without triggering alarms, all guards diligently carrying out their duties yet ignoring the mysterious disappearance of the object they were meant to safeguard, that was what caught Xiu’s attention.
