Ultimately, Double Leaf did not roast Frank’s bird, nor did she actually tell him to get lost.
After all, it was she who insisted on dragging him to the forbidden book area, and there was indeed a degree of danger here, so even if she felt a bit annoyed, she wouldn’t really roast a bird or put the other party in danger.
After all, compared to that entity named ’Tan Mo’ in the Realm of Innocence, Double Leaf has a touch more humanity, which doesn’t prevent her from acting as she pleases, but does indeed affect her behavioral patterns.
From an objective point of view, this isn’t necessarily a bad influence.
In this world, everyone is unique, and even though Double Leaf and Mo Tan, who reside under the ’chaotic neutral’ personality, are distinct in an exaggerated way, it doesn’t mean they are similar.
After all, they might be of the same ’kind of people,’ but they aren’t the ’same person.’
"Let’s go to the next layer."
Finally, after passing the last row of bookshelves filled with texts that common people couldn’t understand, and even uncommon ones could barely comprehend, packed with ’strange languages’, the girl decided to proceed to the next layer.
And Mo Tan, who had no way to turn back, could only follow with a wry smile, joining Double Leaf as they entered the next layer through the teleportation array, which is the thirty-seventh area of the Academy City’s comprehensive library, also known as the second layer of the forbidden book area.
Compared to the ’threshold’ of the thirty-sixth area, this layer is considerably larger, and unlike the previous place which was deserted, although the gloomy and oppressive atmosphere remained as before, it had a bit of vitality.
A red-haired girl dressed in a military academy uniform with a ’Class Leader’ badge pinned at her collar.
A handsome blond young man with noble elegance.
A red-robed female mage with exquisite and delicate features.
A kindly, good-natured half-beast elder priest.
They all quietly held a book they liked, eagerly flipping through, their eyes sparkling with excitement, just like Frank Hughes did with the poems on the twenty-third layer.
However, it was evident that their ’interests’ were much more selective than Frank’s; otherwise, they wouldn’t appear in such a place.
"There are people here..."
Even though she wasn’t as ’afraid of people’ as in reality, Double Leaf still furrowed her beautiful brows.
"It’s normal, after all, the paths to enter the forbidden book area are few, but certainly not scarce."
Mo Tan lowered his voice and whispered gently in the girl’s ear, "Moreover, it’s a special time now, and Double Leaf, you’re definitely not the only one with temporary access to the forbidden book area."
The girl let out a dry laugh, "You don’t have to tell me, do you think I’m stupid?"
Mo Tan immediately shook his head and cast a respectful glance at Double Leaf, indicating he meant no such thing, then with an embarrassed smile, he left the teleportation array first, and then...
"Come back."
Double Leaf grabbed Mo Tan’s collar from behind, pulling him back to her side, and calmly said, "We’ll go directly to the next layer."
"Eh?"
After being slightly stunned, Mo Tan responded smoothly by nodding, "Okay."
Thus, without lingering in this layer that still had some signs of life, the two left directly through the teleportation array.
The third layer of the forbidden book area, their destination, seemed much more simplistic compared to the previous two layers in terms of style.
In simple terms – common.
This doesn’t refer to the books of this layer being common, but rather that it completely lacks any ’forbidden book area’ vibe.
It’s difficult to describe this place in concise language because it resembles most libraries in the outside world, at most coming off as casual.
"Sigh, why would scores and ancient coins be placed together... and mixed with newspapers and Magic Shadow Drawing?"
The ample lighting seemed to restore much of Mo Tan’s courage, as he walked to a half-opened large wooden cabinet nearby, looking down with confusion at the casually piled items inside, and then—
Bang!!!
A small thunderstorm suddenly exploded next to Mo Tan, directly flipping the unsuspecting ’Frank Hughes’ to the ground, and in the next moment, a sharp silver dagger, a cold green light, and a series of abrupt black ripples in the air simultaneously swept past where Mo Tan had just stood.
"Useless!"
Double Leaf coldly glared at Frank, who she had just shocked to the ground, quickly raising her hand in a virtual grip, and conjured a wind attribute mage’s hand from thin air, although lacking great power it stretched nearly two meters, dramatically ’slapping’ Mo Tan back, then stepped on the latter’s shoulder as he slid in front of her, snapping, "Weren’t you quite vigilant just now? Why does your head turn stubborn when faced with real danger!"
Fearing he might see something he shouldn’t and be killed in rage by the beautiful young girl, and simultaneously afraid that struggling might destabilize Double Leaf, leading to mistakes during ’battle’, Frank Hughes didn’t bother with symbolic resistance after being stepped on and readily played along, tilting his head and cosplaying as a carpet.
"Really..."
Realizing the man under her foot wasn’t struggling at all, Double Leaf unapologetically placed most of her weight on his shoulder, then gently clenched her little hand, transforming the mage’s hand that had just slapped Mo Tan into a crystal-clear magic treasure bead: "Whether as a prank or a trap, it’s infuriating beyond belief!"
