Four Split Personalities

Chapter 2486 - 1172: Deadly Game • Prologue (V) • Sunset Afterglow

Twenty minutes later, Double Leaf appeared alone in the small garden in the backyard of the city hall.

To the left of the garden was a patch of plants with a light pink hue, somewhat resembling lavender but with corollas several times longer. These were the favorite flowers of Angus Georgia, the owner of this territory, valued for both their beauty and medicinal qualities.

Opposite, was a nursery personally cultivated by the young lord Philo Georgia, filled with a wide variety of crops, although Double Leaf could hardly name them. However, according to the old housekeeper named Swansea, everything planted here was what Philo’s childhood friend and fiancée, Lady Rose, loved to eat.

In the center of the garden stood a large wooden stake that seemed entirely out of place there.

In the words of the old housekeeper, it was something he used to stretch his limbs when idle.

[Rather than being a knight loyal to the Georgia family, it would be more accurate to say he is a member of the Georgia family.]

Double Leaf stood in front of the wooden stake in the center of the garden, stretching out her not-so-fair, and not-so-delicate, right hand to gently stroke the dense cut marks on the stake, sighing sentimentally: "Fuck."

Although there were no intense emotions needing release, it didn’t stop her from casually swearing when bored.

Whether calm or not was one thing, but cursing was another matter, especially when Double Leaf indeed had plenty of reason to vent.

Even though the main quest had been progressing smoothly, she had just learned from the old housekeeper guarding the door about Sang Qiao’s basic information and various crucial details like how to use the badge she held to mobilize henchmen. But these gains could not lift her currently bad mood.

The reason was simple, ever since Double Leaf was ’projected’ into this world named [Sunset Glow], an enormously important skill to her had been ruthlessly sealed.

That skill was—[Magic Control]

As we mentioned earlier, the special profession of [Magic Controller] differs from regular mages, having no conventional mage skills. Skills such as [Fireball Technique], [Wind Blade], [Ice Arrow], or [Arcane Missile] found in other mage players’ skill panels are absent for Magic Controllers, and never will be.

For this profession, which can only be unlocked by those with extraordinary talent, those standard skills are undoubtedly inefficient and superfluous.

As long as the basic requirements of possessing fundamental magic power and perceiving elements are fulfilled, the skill [Magic Control] can weave any spell whose structure is thoroughly understood by the user and can conduct a substantial amount of DIY in terms of improvement and optimization given sufficient knowledge.

Lower level usage includes saving casting time, bypassing chanting, and significantly reducing magic power consumption — a series of basic benefits.

Higher level usage involves almost no backlash from magic or elements and the mixing and stacking use of various spells.

Of course, to gain the above benefits, apart from acquiring the profession of [Magic Controller], players also need a high level of understanding of magic itself and must be able to bear an enormous amount of computation; otherwise, the character is essentially useless.

Compared to the same low-rank magic [Fireball Technique], Double Leaf, at her level as a Magic Controller, can achieve 20 consecutive shots per second, with the speed, range, and lethality all being 30% stronger than regular fireballs, and the magic power consumption is not even as fast as her automatic magic recovery speed post-activating [Combat Meditation Technique].

An ordinary mage player specializing in fire element probably can achieve 3 shots per second, with each fireball being standard assuming no external factors like talent and equipment.

As for players who possess the profession of [Magic Controller] but only have a muddled understanding of the principles of [Fireball Technique], and computational power equivalent to a mediocre high school senior preparing for exams, they might struggle to produce even one fireball in three seconds using [Magic Control]. Even if they manage one, its quality likely wouldn’t stand up to much, making them easy prey against equivalent opponents.

However, analysis remains analysis. Based on Mo Tan’s previous assumption, those who obtain the special profession [Magic Controller] are nearly impossible to be like that last example unless they are Cordova.

In summary, no matter how you look at it, Double Leaf and the profession of [Magic Controller] are a match made in heaven, because for her, constructing the corresponding spell model — or rather computation, which is the hardest part for players to improve only through practice — is essentially unburdensome.

In most cases, the concept of ’skill proficiency’ is nonexistent for Double Leaf. As long as she can execute it once, her proficiency with the skill is invariably 100%, without any deduction.

So, the question arises, how did Double Leaf’s [Magic Control] skill end up being sealed?

The answer is quite straightforward; the character she is playing, this female knight named Rose—does! Not! Have! Magic! Power!

Without logical support, the system won’t indiscriminately seal a player’s skills, and in truth, the skill [Magic Control] does indeed remain properly in Double Leaf’s skill panel.
