Game Time AM09:37
The Realm of Innocence, Player Public Space, District 803
"It really feels like there are way more people here every time I come. I remember last month the sub-servers had only opened up to five hundred-something, and now we’re already past eight hundred."
Standing in the central plaza that was oozing with high-tech vibes, where there was nothing but people as far as the eye could see and a sky packed with ads from rival companies plus slogans like "Moderate gaming is good for the brain, addiction harms your liver," Motan, who hadn’t chosen to censor his own appearance, sighed unconsciously, then muttered under his breath, "Also, what the hell does ’gaming addiction harms your liver’ even mean? You can clearly only play 12 hours a day in sleep mode at most! Thanks to you guys, the user base of The Realm of Innocence is ridiculously healthy now; a bunch of professional gamers have gotten fat!"
He took a deep breath, did a few rounds of deep breathing to calm his slightly jittery mood, then listlessly found a bench, sat down, propped his chin on his hand, and started waiting.
Considering Yi Dong, unlike Motan, was the sort who, while a bit sloppy, could still technically be classified as a good Child, the latter didn’t have to wait long, and he certainly didn’t, during the wait, randomly bump into acquaintances, cute girls, top-tier experts and the like, triggering some heartwarming, plot-driving encounter that could be stretched into at least half a Chapter.
In fact, he’d barely been sitting for half a minute, his butt not even warmed up yet, when a system chime sounded by his ear—
[Your friend: Rin Winter invites you to enter a private room in the Public Space. Accept?]
"Tsk, not ’Public Arena Private Room,’ but ’Public Space Private Room’... damn it! That doesn’t make it any less suggestive, okay! At least change it to something like ’Private Conference Room’! Why the hell would I go into some guy’s ’private room,’ huh?!"
Motan’s urge to rant seemed extra strong today. But ranting was ranting, entering was entering. Having known his best bro’s temperament since childhood, Motan was very clear that even if he suddenly turned into a cute girl overnight, Yi Dong would never be interested in him... uh, out of pure Survival Instinct.
Anyway, a few seconds later, Motan successfully appeared in [Rin Winter’s Private Room in the Public Space].
A three-story villa facing the sea, with eternal springtime flowers in bloom!
"What the actual..."
Refreshed onto a spacious terrace, Motan first stared blankly at the clear, gorgeous, and majestic sea in front of him for a good half minute, then turned to look at the Handsome Guy on the lounge chair next to him, wearing sunglasses, chewing on an ice pop, listening to rock music, and asked with a twitching mouth, "Huh?"
Even though what Motan said was pretty abstract, as his long-time friend, Yi Dong instantly understood what his good bro was trying to say, and cheerfully replied, "DIY custom build. It’s a feature that comes with private rooms from the start."
"You can’t even call this a ’room’ anymore!"
Motan furiously pointed at the stretch of azure sea in the distance and snapped, "My first reaction coming in here was that you’d bet ten grand on the national football team and they actually won the World Cup!"
"Heh, how naive."
Yi Dong let out a cold laugh and shook his head. "Even if those losers really made it into the finals, and I won that ten grand bet, at most I could buy myself an ice pop with the profit. To get a villa like this? At the very least it’d have to be they drew someone like Bard in the qualifiers, I suddenly lost my mind and bet they’d blow the other side out 8–0, and then they actually won."
Motan suddenly frowned. "Wait, if I remember right... there’s less than a year until the World Cup, yeah?"
Yi Dong nodded slightly. "Mm, something like that."
"You got a lot of spare cash lying around?"
"Yeah, tons."
"Then how about you lend me ten grand when the time comes, we run this script for real, I find a chance to bet on an 8–0, and then we move into a whole villa like this?"
"I’ll lend you twenty. Housing prices in City B are steep; twenty grand is the polite minimum."
"We’re gonna be rich, hahaha~"
Motan burst out laughing.
"I support this, hahaha~"
Yi Dong raised his glass in a toast.
Then the two of them walked together to the edge of the wide terrace, smiling, letting the sea breeze blow over them, and said in unison—
"Spit!"
...
Two minutes later
"Not cheap, huh?"
Leaning on the railing, Motan looked over the villa below and chuckled. "No way I’m believing Innocent Company is doing charity work."
"The whole set came to just over five grand. Pretty damn fair."
Yi Dong smacked his lips, crossed his arms, and said, "They don’t even have a cash shop; if they didn’t find some other way to bring in money, would that make any sense?"
Motan shrugged and shot a sidelong glance at the rich second gen next to him, his face blank as he said, "People like me from the poor-people class, after suffering through enough hard days, wanting to swagger around in-game and enjoy the rich-family experience is still understandable. But you, the dregs of capital, what are you crowding in here for? Don’t you have this stuff at home already?"
"Sigh~"
Yi Dong let out a long, theatrical sigh and shook his head. "Mainly, I’m just not used to waking up every day and seeing the ceiling less than three meters away from my face."
"Would it kill you to have a bit of shame?"
"Wouldn’t kill me, but it’d hurt."
"You’re beyond saving."
"Wow, a mental patient telling me I’m beyond saving, that’s rich."
"Cut the crap. How’s Captain Ned and the others’ situation?"
After spewing a whole pile of useless nonsense, Motan finally got around to business.
