Four Split Personalities

Chapter 2530 - 1194: Beo’s Warning

Game Time AM12:31

Outer Ring Area of Academy City, Isaac Military Academy, Top Floor of the Experimental Building, Integrated Office Area

"Phew, looks like everyone’s run off to the cafeteria..."

Professor Rabinsky Cliff, having just climbed the stairs, clicked his tongue, breathlessly walked over to his desk in the corner, and sat down. As he fished out a bento from his storage space bag, he muttered, "Tsk tsk, lucky for these old bones that I thought ahead and prepared lunch early, otherwise I’d either go hungry or get squashed in the crowd."

Looking at the meat patties, a jug of fruit wine, and a couple of side dishes that were not very nutritious but were tasty, he smugly smiled and picked up his knife and fork to dig in—

Just then, a hand suddenly appeared silently on Professor Cliff’s shoulder, gently patting it twice before the old man could start his meal.

"Oh my!"

Thinking he was alone in the office, Professor Cliff shivered sharply, and his delicate personal fork slipped from his fingers, clinking against the lunch box with a crisp sound.

He turned to see a man about thirty, with sparse stubble, smiling warmly at him, leaving him momentarily bewildered.

Though aged, his well-maintained body allowed the old professor to swear there was no one inside when he walked into the office area!

Therefore, the young man in front of him, wearing a white robe and a bandage around his neck, looked suspicious and couldn’t have come in by conventional means.

Of course, under the worldview of The Realm of Innocence, such a thing wasn’t enough to scare Cliff out of his wits. As he mentioned in his self-talk, Rabinsky Cliff was a highly self-aware person, knowing that with his Middle Rank power, there were countless things he couldn’t detect. Any Thief with proficient aura concealment could silently slit his throat.

Although this person, who looked just like a Bard, hardly seemed like a Thief.

"Hello, young man."

Quickly regaining his composure, Professor Cliff put down the knife and smiled at his uninvited guest behind him, "Is there something you need from me?"

"Hello, Professor Rabinsky Cliff."

The not-so-young man also smiled, warmly saying, "My name is Beo Lucanus, an obscure Bard. Though I hate to interrupt your meal, your lively and interesting open class just now was truly enlightening. To be honest, if more people like you switched to being Bards, I’m afraid folks like me would have starved early in their careers."

Cliff chuckled, shaking his head, "Modesty is a valuable quality, Mr. Lucanus, but I find it hard to believe a craftsman like you would struggle to find a meal. Care for some fried shrimp?"

Clearly, he referred to the other man’s silent appearance behind him as the ’craftsmanship.’

"Regrettably, my current condition isn’t suitable for eating, although the fried shrimp does smell delightful."

Beo pointed to the bandage on his neck, lamenting, "Honestly, since getting my esophagus nearly sliced open, I haven’t had a proper meal in days."

Cliff chuckled again, picking up his utensils, "Well then, do you mind waiting a bit? Honestly, I’m starving."

"Of course."

Beo nodded slightly, removing his right hand from Cliff’s shoulder, hinting with a light smile, "By the way, you needn’t worry about anyone returning here during this time, so feel free to take your time eating."

Cliff was slightly taken aback, then shook his head with a wry smile, before leisurely beginning to eat. He ate meticulously, carefully considering the order of picking the dishes and the portion of each bite of rice—a dining process that could be described as ’pleasing to the eye.’

And Beo stood motionless by the window, eyes closed as if dozing, patiently waiting for Cliff for a full twenty minutes.

Finally, after elegantly sipping the last of his vegetable sweet soup, the old professor contentedly packed away the lunch box, then turned to Beo with a nod, "Sorry to have kept you waiting."

"It’s okay. Ever since I managed to get over the threat of starvation, my concept of time has become quite faint."

Beo opened his eyes, smiling leisurely, "So you needn’t apologize at all."

Professor Cliff looked at Beo with great admiration, whispering, "There are fewer and fewer polite young people like you these days."

Beo didn’t respond, maintaining his reserved and dignified smile.

"When I don’t have classes, I like to take a nap after lunch."

Cliff stood up and walked to the sink, washing the lunch box while saying, "So, well, do you understand what I mean?"

Beo scratched his head, shrugged, and said, "Alright, if you wish, I could wait again..."

"It won’t be very painful, will it?"

Cliff suddenly interrupted Beo, asking without turning his head.

"Uh... sorry."

Beo blinked, curiously questioning, "What did you say?"

"I said, it won’t be very painful, will it?"

After packing the clean lunch box into the space bag, Cliff slowly returned to sit at his desk, looking at Beo with a serious expression, "I’m ashamed to admit, I’ve been afraid of pain since I was young. So if you, young man, could make it quick for me, it would be a huge help."
