Four Split Personalities

Chapter 2642 - 1250: On the Road

A moment later

Just two minutes after feeding the cat and going upstairs, Motan’s phone in his pants pocket started buzzing, and he casually picked it up to see a number he couldn’t recall.

Of course, even though it was a strange number, Motan immediately guessed who it might be. After all, given the context and his social circle, it was quite easy to figure out the caller’s identity.

"Sister Xiao Le?"

He swiped to answer, trying to make his voice sound cheerful, even though he wasn’t too keen on going out.

It’s not that he’s a homebody; under his current persona, Motan isn’t quite a shut-in. He even maintains good habits like jogging in the morning and grabbing discounted groceries at the supermarket. But escorting non-locals to familiarize them with the environment isn’t something Motan enjoys under any of his personas.

Moreover, the person in question is Guxiaole, a girl who is either refreshingly quirky or, to put it unkindly, seems to thrive on chaos.

Nonetheless, having accepted the task, Motan would strive to do his best, at least to avoid coming across as reluctant.

"Oh, you know my number, Tan Jiang!"

On the other end, Guxiaole giggled and said, "I’m here, come downstairs."

Motan was taken aback: "So soon!?"

"It’s rare to drive such a great car, so I was a bit more focused."

Guxiaole’s voice was cheerful, then she lowered it, "By the way, does Yi Dong’s points cover this year?"

Motan’s face stiffened, and he replied, "Did you run a red light?"

"Uh..."

Guxiaole was silent for two seconds, then mumbled in a lower voice, "Including but not limited to that."

"Probably nothing serious, well, wait for me, I’ll be right down."

After that, Motan quickly hung up the phone, sighed deeply, and rushed out the door.

...

A minute later

"Sister Xiao Le!"

Wearing a white short-sleeved shirt and jeans, with a kid’s smartwatch on his wrist, Motan hurried out of the building entrance and immediately spotted the energetic Guxiaole and her car, the SSC-13, which Motan often referred to as a ’capital Original Sin.’

"Hi! Tan Jiang!"

Guxiaole waved at Motan with a bright smile, then turned to gently pat the beautiful hood of the SSC-13, sighing, "Such decadence, truly! My entire belongings probably aren’t worth as much as this car."

Motan chuckled and shrugged, "I think it’s quite wasteful, actually. Though it’s value for money performance-wise, I doubt it’ll ever be let loose all out before it’s scrapped."

Guxiaole nodded in deep agreement, then mumbled, "So to spare it a life unfulfilled, I let it loose a bit earlier."

"Let it loose!?"

Motan broke into a sweat, turning stiffly to Guxiaole, "You let this SSC-13... loose?"

"Uh-huh..."

The girl’s radiant smile was tinged with awkwardness, but she lightly nodded, "Just a little, just let it loose a tiny bit."

Motan let out a weak groan, unable to imagine what it must have been like for this car, which could unleash incredible horsepower at any moment even when restrained, to go full throttle. Yi Dong himself had never done such a thing, but if what Guxiaole said was true, she likely violated at least a double-digit number of traffic rules on the way to pick him up, meaning Yi Dong’s driver’s license was probably at risk.

And that wasn’t even the main issue—

"Sister Xiao Le."

Motan sighed with a wry smile, saying weakly to the beautiful girl in front of him, "Breaking traffic laws is very dangerous. I’m not trying to lecture you, but in a city with nearly thirty million people, driving so fast is incredibly! incredibly! incredibly dangerous!"

Guxiaole was taken aback, then a sweet smile crept onto her face, "But I..."

"You even ran a red light."

Motan interrupted her sternly, "You must understand, the value of Yi Dong’s car mainly lies in its motor, not its armor. Even a truck or a bus that’s cheaper than its wheels could fling it, including its driver!"

"Hmm..."

Guxiaole pursed her lips, seemingly wanting to retort, but held back due to two reasons: Motan’s status as a common person, and his eyes that were laced with concern.

Although this wasn’t the first time Guxiaole met Motan after returning from abroad, she couldn’t help but feel that the last time she saw those eyes was many years ago, on that afternoon when her mischievous cousin had upset her...

Back then, a small, skinny child beside them was looking at her with those same eyes, bright black eyes full of worry.

So after an awkward half-minute, Guxiaole finally swallowed the words ’even if the car flies, I won’t fly,’ decisively acknowledged her mistake, bowed deeply to Motan, and loudly declared, "I’m sorry!"

"Oh dear! This isn’t Japan!"
