Four Split Personalities

’East Bai, West Hong, South Zhou, North Yao’ is a rather popular saying in certain circles, which essentially means that there are four super-large corporate empires in the country: the Bai Group headquartered in S City, the Hong Group based in Q Province, the well-known Zhou Corporation in G Province, and the smallest yet geographically advantaged Yao Group located in City B.

Among them, only the Bai and Zhou families are truly family-run businesses. The other two are newcomers that emerged relatively late, with their leadership not exceeding two generations. The Hong Group is passed from mother to son, while the Yao Group from father to daughter.

And right now, the lady standing in front of Motan and the others, Yao Qianhan, is the current head of the Yao Group and just one of her many roles is being a director at Tanhua University.

I must say, this sister is definitely not just a ’looks like’ a strong woman type. In fact, even though Motan hasn’t really investigated this director sister (or perhaps aunt), he knows how powerful she truly is. To give the most direct example: ever since she took over the family business from her father, the group’s market value has nearly tripled in just over a decade, elbowing out ’North Li’ from that catchy phrase and turning it into ’North Yao.’

Of course, to borrow a quote from a talk by Yao during an address to the students, it might also be because ’East Bai, West Hong, South Zhou, North Li’ doesn’t rhyme with ’North Yao.’

In summary, this sister’s influence is quite significant, making her the type who could make headlines just by dropping a chopstick. Plus, she’s good-looking and hasn’t settled down despite her career success, making her a standout figure among the women of the new era.

However, from Motan’s perspective, compared to the grand business empire under her, Yao seems to value this university more, which, while somewhat renowned, doesn’t offer much in terms of tangible benefits. The most direct reason is she seems to particularly enjoy staying at the school. Even though she doesn’t show up often and is mostly busy in the office at the end of the main building’s top floor, Yao Qianhan appears to prefer living on campus rather than in her colossal mansion worth who knows how much.

[Maybe it’s because she doesn’t have a boyfriend...]

Although he doesn’t hold a deep-seated resentment towards the wealthy, Motan admittedly made the above observation with some cynicism.

All in all, like most students, Motan’s interaction with this young female entrepreneur with a top-notch appearance and a figure that could make Double Leaf weep is almost zero.

So here’s the question, why ’almost zero’ and not ’zero’?

The reason is simple. As Motan’s close friend and childhood buddy, Yi Dong frequently mentions ’my school director aunt,’ referring to this Yao director. Although they aren’t actually related, it’s said that Yao has a great relationship with Yi Nan and Gu Yan Yue as a couple.

"Aunt Yao and my dad met at this university, and she comes to my house for dinner every now and then!"

Yi Dong once shared during a freshman orientation gala with Motan. We can understand this as ’the leader was speaking above, and he was talking below.’ He was quite proud at the time, but his status as someone’s connection didn’t do much for him. Instead, it was Motan’s private deal with the vice-principal that earned him special privileges.

Friend A has always been upset about this.

In any case, Motan doesn’t really know much about Yao Qianhan.

True, he did some research on this university when he and Yi Dong confirmed they’d come to Tanhua University, and learned a little about the management team led by Yao Qianhan. But knowing the deep ties between the biggest director and Yi Dong’s family, he didn’t delve deeper.

But even so, he’s very much aware that the Yao Group has issues, big ones, in fact.

Motan noticed this sharp fact when he first started gathering intel on the Yao Group, not yet aware of Yao Qianhan’s connection with the Yi family.

Despite not having a formal education in economics or related fields, Motan instinctively sensed that the Yao Group could very well be a ’white glove.’ Even though the one wearing the glove might not be an official, he’s confident that the entire group, led by Yao Qianhan, might be acting as an agent for someone, or an organization, or institution, rather than just being a mere company.

There might be very complex reasons involved, but due to Yi Dong’s connection, Motan dismissed any curiosity about the Yao Group long ago.

In summary, Motan doesn’t have much interest in the woman in front of him or anything she represents.

However...

The other side is now looking at him with a very, very interested gaze.

"And Xiaoge, Xiao Island, Sister Xiao Le."

Yu Chen trotted up to the group and softly asked, "Why are you guys here?"

"Here to finalize the transfer procedures."

As his own sister had already happily hugged Yu Chen, Ji Xiaodao succinctly answered and then nodded gently at the smiling director: "Aunt Yao."
