Four Split Personalities
Chapter 2674 - 1266: Warfire League: Opening CeremonyIn the next few minutes, Yu Chen and Luna both stopped talking.
Because she accidentally got interrogated into admitting she’d skipped breakfast, Luna was now eating under Yu Chen’s strict supervision. Thanks to the generous budget for this round of the Warfire League, the quality of the self-serve snacks in the players’ prep area was seriously top-notch; both nutrition and taste were great. Even Yu Chen, who had technically already eaten breakfast (though she wasn’t exactly full), ended up sampling a few things.
By the way, Fyari also seemed to have packed up some food—at least enough to cover two tables’ worth. She did it very stealthily, and aside from Yu Chen, no one seemed to notice this girl just wandering around and quietly walking off with snacks for thirty people.
All in all, after finishing her chat with Yu Chen about the "Counselor" business, Luna stopped talking and buried her head in her food again. To be fair, the way this girl ate was really adorable, and along with that cute little face and airy, ethereal vibe of hers, the number of male contestants coming over to get food from this side suddenly shot up.
Luna clearly didn’t notice this at all. In fact, she was eating with great focus; she was already reaching for her third apple as post-meal fruit.
Meanwhile, Yu Chen was staring blankly in Motan’s direction, and in return she received a friendly smile from Ramollok. For no reason at all she shivered, then immediately shifted her gaze away.
...
At long last, after a drawn-out ten minutes, Dean Richard Ducasse finally finished his speech and announced that the drawing ceremony would begin immediately.
Just like that, the contestants, all relieved (the audience even visibly let out a breath too), rushed over to the temporary work tables set up at the four corners of the prep area and started lining up of their own accord to draw lots.
Same as the drawing system for the Comprehensive Combat Tournament, it was just a simple numbered matchup: No.1 vs No.2, No.3 vs No.4, all the way to No.249 vs No.250, and the match order followed the numbering directly—nice and straightforward.
Which meant that, with thirty of the new sand tables available, the players who drew numbers 1–60 would go in for the first batch. Every time a group finished and a winner was decided, two more people would go in, starting from No.61 and No.62, and so on until the first round was completely done.
It had to be said, compared to the real-blade, real-fist brawling of the Comprehensive Combat Tournament, the main bracket of the Warfire League really was much more efficient. That’s why they could have situations where they played all the way down to the top sixteen on the first day of the main bracket, and then wrapped up the entire tournament on the second day.
But none of that had much to do with Motan. As a Seed player, he wouldn’t appear until the round of thirty-two into sixteen. And since his opponent would also definitely be a Seed player who skipped the early main matches, there was no risk of him running into Ramollok right off the bat. That really did let him breathe a sigh of relief.
"Alright, I’ll go draw my lot first."
Ramollok smiled pleasantly, then jerked his chin toward Yu Chen and Luna’s side. "Your friend has been wanting to come over just now, but it looks like she’s a bit wary of me. So after I finish drawing, I’ll move somewhere else to sit."
Motan nodded and smiled at Ramollok. "Good luck, Chief Priest Ramollok."
"Thanks, Black Vatican Priest."
Ramollok chuckled lightly, shook hands with Motan, and then walked away with an easy spring in his step.
Sure enough, less than five minutes after Ramollok left, Yu Chen came over holding the hand of Luna, who was now full and feeling sleepy. Then she glanced in the direction Ramollok had gone and asked Motan timidly, "Is that person coming back?"
"He’s not coming back."
Motan smiled and gestured for Yu Chen to sit next to him, then shook his head. "He just said that him being here might make you guys uneasy, so after the drawing he’d switch to another seat."
"What a considerate guy."
Yu Chen plopped down beside Motan with a little "hup," then tugged the swaying Luna down to sit as well, and muttered under her breath, "Even though I was actually kind of scared of him earlier..."
"Scared of him?"
Motan let out a wry laugh, leaned back in his chair, and sighed. "Then that really makes two of us. I’m a bit scared of him too."
"Huh!?"
Yu Chen widened her eyes in surprise. "But it looked like you two were chatting quite happily just now."
Motan scratched his hair, looking a bit troubled, and shrugged. "How should I put it... That guy’s a pretty funny person, and he’s good at reading the mood. He comes off very friendly, but... I thought it was just my own bias, anyway I feel like I’d have a hard time liking him."
Yu Chen couldn’t help but snort with laughter. "If you actually liked him, that’d be super weird!"
"Hah?"
Motan froze for a second, then his face went dark as he ground out, "That’s not the kind of ’like’ I meant! I meant I’d have a hard time being friends with him!"
"I was just joking."
Yu Chen stuck out her tongue playfully, watching the contestants lining up not far away to draw lots, and asked with a grin, "So, what did you mean by your ’subjective bias’ just now, Hei Fan?"
"Mm..."
Motan stared absent-mindedly at Yu Chen’s profile, and only after quite a while did he snap out of it. He hurriedly cleared his throat and said, "I’ve seen that person a few times before on the judges’ bench at the Combat Tournament. His name is... Ramollok, from the Dream Teaching Country’s delegation on The Southwestern Continent, his church rank is Chief Priest."
"Oh, so that’s how it is."
Yu Chen blinked, then suddenly showed a look of realization. "Ah! Chief Priest Ramollok from the Dream Teaching Country! Sister Xia Lian mentioned him to me back when she was praising you. I remember he’s supposed to be..."
