The simulation battle between the two old men did not reach its conclusion, because Theresa is a child with a particularly regular biological clock. Under Richard’s meticulous care, although the girl hasn’t stepped out of the shadows over the years and her constitution is weaker than her peers due to lack of exercise, she’s still considered a healthy child.
She must eat three meals a day properly and rest on time when needed. No matter how much Richard spoils Theresa, these two rules are his bottom line.
For this reason, despite sneaking into the office across the hall on a whim, Theresa still became drowsy after a short burst of activity and was taken back by Richard to continue sleeping.
Of course, even if Theresa wasn’t sleepy, the two men probably wouldn’t have been in the mood to finish that simulation.
The reason goes without saying.
...
"Are you sure Theresa didn’t look at your command console?"
Standing behind Andre with his arms crossed, Richard, with a long, narrow face, asked the other for the seventh time, "Really didn’t?"
Andre wasn’t impatient. He just said calmly, "Even if I did have a drink and ignored a child without killing intent coming into the room today, unless she has the skills of a Legendary Rank, it’s impossible for her to sneak behind me. And given her height, she’d probably have to stand on a stool to clearly see the console."
"But this doesn’t make sense..."
Richard rubbed his temples, his previous intoxication having long dissipated: "If she didn’t see it, how could she immediately pinpoint your command center’s position?"
Andre turned to glance at Richard, gently shaking his head, "You understand that child better than I do. If even you don’t know, how would I?"
"Sigh."
Richard sighed, sitting back down on the other side of the sand table, hesitantly saying, "Andre... do you think it’s possible that Theresa just randomly pointed and hit your command center? I mean... could it just be a coincidence?"
Andre nodded slightly, saying, "That’s the most realistic explanation, but it’s hard to convince me, Richard. I believe it’s equally hard to convince you."
"Yeah, who would believe a nine-year-old girl could find Andre Kalinin’s command center by sheer luck, but..."
Richard tapped the table lightly, not continuing.
"But if she didn’t rely on luck and found it through some other means, that’s even more unbelievable."
Andre finished Richard’s thought, pouring half a glass of wine for each of them, "Right?"
Richard nodded silently, his expression deeply serious.
"Worrying about it isn’t getting us anywhere."
Andre casually pressed the reset button on the edge of the sand table, quickly operating something on the panel while asking, "You still remember the troop placements, environment, positions, and personnel distribution from your side earlier, right?"
Richard smirked darkly, "Who do you think you’re talking to?"
"Then it’s settled."
Andre nodded, speaking in a deep voice, "Let’s verify it. Let’s review now."
"Review?"
Raising an eyebrow, Richard quickly entered various parameters into the system, replicating the random simulation they had just played, asking as he did so, "What do you mean?"
Andre fluidly reset the troops the Main System had assigned him in the previous round, speaking dryly, "Have you forgotten? That child said, ’But it’s already too late.’"
Richard was initially taken aback, but then looked solemnly at the battlefield before him, identical to the previous one, muttering, "Now that you mention it, Theresa did say something about moving my right wing to your supply line, but..."
"If Little Theresa believes that’s ’in time’, then let’s try it."
Andre interrupted Richard, speaking in a calm voice, "Let’s replicate our initial moves as closely as possible. Once we get the rhythm down, recreating the scenario is not difficult, and then we match it with the state during when she spoke, we should discern something."
"Okay."
Richard nodded, giving a simple reply.
Then, the two of them restarted the match using a ’custom battle’ mode, meticulously replicating their previous actions.
Fourteen minutes later
"Stop!"
"It should be now!"
Richard and Andre said almost simultaneously, immediately pausing the current simulation.
Then—
"How is this possible!"
Richard stood abruptly, staring intently at the supply line that was supposed to be covered by Andre’s left wing, but at this moment was almost undefended, his voice dryly asking, "How could you make such a basic mistake?"
"Did you notice it at the time? If not, it’s not basic or a mistake."
Andre’s voice was equally hoarse, speaking deeply, "I was preparing to launch a probing attack on you then, and because of frequent force redeployments, there would be about less than half an hour’s— equivalent to less than two minutes on the simulation table—defense leak on the left wing’s supply line, this was unavoidable."
"Theresa noticed... and..."
