Four Split Personalities

Chapter 2756 - 1303: Interlude · Classified Data_2

"Right by your side, Your Majesty the Supreme King of Sin."

Arthur gave a mischievous little grin, but also, covertly, widened the distance between them just a bit.

Mo cast his icy gaze toward Arthur, his voice still utterly unruffled: "Seems those boring misunderstandings still haven’t been cleared out of your heart..."

"That’s my business, mate. Since you haven’t taken away my eyes or my brain, you can’t stop me from observing and thinking. You can keep your opinion, but I’ll keep mine too, OK?"

Ending with a piece of awkward English, Arthur met that pair of ink-black pupils without servility or arrogance. After quite a while he finally smiled and said, "Forget it, let’s go back to talking about Gevieve."

Mo merely gave an ambiguous nod, then continued strolling slowly down the passageway, his tone indifferent as he spoke: "You said she’s a hidden danger."

"That’s right, Guivere Logan is a huge hidden danger."

"That’s why you don’t want to go to Griffin."

"Yes, that’s the whole reason."

"What are you afraid of?"

"Heh, you know and you still ask."

Arthur let out a derisive snort and shrugged. "Of course I’m afraid that ’love’ and ’Sin’ are equivalent."

Mo didn’t say anything, just kept walking as if aimlessly.

"Spell it out, Mo."

Arthur’s expression finally turned serious, and he said in a low voice, "Even though right here, right now, the ’White King’ Arthur in Godslayer Star is willing to become the sword in your hand, whether this sword will swing down on Gevieve or not is an unknown..."

Mo kept pacing the corridor as though he hadn’t heard a word, his expression growing a shade darker.

Arthur’s face went a little pale as he smiled, his index finger lightly tracing the bridge of his nose. "Looks like you get it too. If we want to minimize accidents, then I can’t go to Griffin. Or, you could also choose to, before that, just have Gevieve..."

"Hm?"

As if only now snapping back, Mo halted his steps and turned to glance at Arthur. "What did you just say?"

The rather forced smile on Arthur’s face froze on the spot. He knew perfectly well that in a situation like this, the man in front of him would never pretend ignorance or play dumb. In other words, he really hadn’t noticed that Arthur had just been speaking.

What else could he do? The guy is the boss, after all...

Arthur sighed helplessly and repeated what he’d just said.

And was interrupted by Mo at the very same spot.

"You’re mistaken about one thing, Arthur. ’Sin’ isn’t equivalent to any concept."

He gave the smallest of head shakes. Mo pulled out a stack of blue-covered documents without notes, title, or markings. As he slowly leafed through them, he said casually, "’Sin’ does not stand above all; it exists independently of everything as an abstract concept. No matter what you try to put alongside it, it’s meaningless."

Arthur narrowed his eyes, gritting his teeth. "Then tell me, why is it that the moment I think of Gevieve, I..."

"Because your love for her and your having already been infected by Sin are not in conflict."

Mo cut Arthur off, a trace of rare astonishment flashing through his eyes, though his tone remained utterly flat: "You’ve merely caught a glimpse of a sliver of scenery you never cared to notice before, Arthur. That sliver of scenery won’t throw your memories into chaos, won’t twist your personality, won’t desecrate your soul, won’t rewrite your cognition. You, who like meat, won’t suddenly become a lover of vegetables because of it. And you, who adore Guivere Logan, won’t lose that feeling because of it."

Arthur folded his arms and leaned against the shelf behind Mo, shaking his head. "That doesn’t mean I can just head for Griffin and everything will be fine."

"Indeed. I only corrected your perception a little, that’s all."

Mo didn’t refute him, merely spoke in a tone that clearly carried the intention of ending the current topic: "As for what you’re worried about, I have my own arrangements."

A flash of ferocity flickered through Arthur’s eyes. "What do you mean?"

"Exactly what it sounds like."

Mo turned his head and gave Arthur a look, something faintly strange mixed into his gaze. "It’s not something you need to know right now."

Not missing that flicker of wavering in the other man’s eyes, Arthur instantly broke into a cold sweat. He had never seen Mo this "out of composure" before. He instinctively took a step back, his voice trembling: "You... w-what the hell are you trying to do! Why are you looking at me like that! Y-you... what are you panicking for!?"

"I’m not panicking."

Mo said so, yet he averted his gaze.

Heaven and earth as his witness, Arthur would swear an oath on it: ever since this former friend revealed his true face, he had never seen the man like this. On the surface he looked no different from usual, but that was only on the surface!

Mo was wavering!

It was only for a fleeting instant, but in that instant, the man before him had truly wavered!

And right before that, the two of them had been talking about matters between him and Gevieve.

A chill like plunging into an ice cellar spread rapidly through White King Arthur’s body, that uncontrollable fear nearly freezing his soul solid.

Dammit!

What the hell is it!

What the hell is it!?

That can make this pitiful monster show that kind of expression!

"Mo!"

At last, almost swallowed whole by terror, Arthur snapped his head up, teeth clenched as he glared at the man who’d turned away at some unknown point, and shouted harshly, "What the hell are you planning to—"

"Arthur."

But Mo suddenly lifted a hand and said softly, "Have your... stresses been a bit too much lately?"

"What the hell are you babbling about?!"

Arthur suddenly took a step forward and roared, "Who do you think gave me all this pres—"

"I don’t intend to apologize, and I don’t intend to force you to do anything in the name of Sin."

Mo shook his head and handed the sheet of data in his hand to Arthur. "But I still hope you’ll think it over."

"Think over what?!"

Arthur subconsciously took the file Motan handed over and snapped, "What the hell do I even need to think abou—what the fuck is this?!"

[@#¥%&*??????]

Arthur Boho’s mouth hung open; he had clearly lost the ability to think.

Then, Mo handed him another exquisitely drawn character pro... uh, design illustration, with the title [M999-Saber] written at the top.

Woodenly taking the sheet, Arthur stiffly lowered his head, and immediately saw a sweetly smiling blonde bishoujo with emerald-green eyes smiling right at him.

The voice of an old friend drifted over from the side—

"I don’t really want to meddle in your personal tastes, but... don’t be impulsive, Arthur. Once you do this kind of thing once, there will be a second time. You just mentioned it yourself: you have feelings for Guivere Logan."

"..."

"As long as it doesn’t affect the overall tone, I can make some adjustments as a compromise. When Jiawen comes back, I’ll have her..."

"Stop!!!"

"You need to calm down, Arthur. How about this: go play a game of chess with Osiris and—"

"I’m fucking calm as hell!"

Arthur roared, cutting Mo off, and at the same time shattered the design sheet in his hand with Epic Peak-level Strength. Gritting his teeth, he said, "I don’t even know what the hell this crap is! This is not my idea! I had absolutely zero clue about any of this!"

"You didn’t know?"

"Of course I didn’t know! Who the hell knows why Old Man Merlin wants to stuff me into a body like that?!"

"Hmm... I see."

The completely emotionless face under the mask seemed to loosen a little.

"Did you think I got traumatized and turned into some kind of pervert?!"

"As long as you’re fine."

"Fine my ass! Come on, you’re coming with me to find Old Man Merlin and get an explanation!"

"Mm."

"’Mm’ what ’mm’, move it! What are you spacing out for?!"

"...You go first."

"Fuck! So we’ve been wandering around here for this long because you actually can’t find the damn way out, is that it?!"

"..."
