A heavy and terrifying silence fell over the battlefield.

Grand Chieftain Bruga knelt in the crimson-slicked dust, his massive body trembling like a dying titan.

He tried to speak, his jaw working violently, but no articulate roar escaped his throat. Instead, dark, thick balloons of boiling, acrid blood erupted from his lips with every ragged gasp, splashing against the white stone floor.

He stared up at Sol with his eyes, bloodshot lens filled with profound, uncomprehending confusion and terror.

He could not fathom how a Layer 3 human, a creature he had dismissed as a mere pest to be stepped on, had possessed the ability to bypass his dense, essence-reinforced hide, slice through his muscles, and cleave straight into his structural ribs.

Sol didn’t wait for an answer. He didn’t care for a dying tyrant’s final words.

With a cold, dismissive flick of his wrist, Sol unceremoniously kicked his boot off Bruga’s sternum, shoving the massive twenty-foot frame backward.

THUD!

The Grand Chieftain of the Gray Marauders collapsed into the dirt, motionless, a widening pool of dark, steaming blood expanding from his crushed chest cavity.

Sol slowly turned away from the fallen giant, his neon-crimson eyes scanning the perimeter of the battlefield.

His gaze locked onto the remaining Coalition leadership... Chief of Zerith tribe, the trembling Zharun Chieftain, and the remaining Maradurer Layer 4 powerhouses who had previously been hunting the Blood Hounds to reduce their already massive casualties.

They stood frozen in absolute, terrified stillness. The weapons in their hands trembled. Their breath hitched in their throats, their faces completely drained of color.

The psychological impact of seeing their absolute strongest leader... a bona fide Layer 4 Marauder.... cleaved and brought to his knees in a matter of minutes had utterly shattered the Coalition’s line of command.

"Who’s next?" Sol rasped, his voice cutting through the quiet valley like a rusted saw blade.

He took a single step forward, resting the blood-drenched sapphire flat of the Dreadwing blade across his shoulder.

RUMBLE...

Before Chief Vane or the Zharun Chieftain could even process Sol’s threat, an unnatural, violent vibration shuddered through the white limestone floor.

It was definitely not a normal earthquake, as the air pressure in the valley abruptly spiked, dropping the ambient temperature by twenty degrees in a single second.

The loose pebbles, pulverized chalk dust, and even the pooling blood on the ground began to defy gravity, floating upward in thin, trembling streams.

Sol stopped dead in his tracks. His hyper-focused vision spun, tracking a terrifying surge of environmental essence rushing from all directions toward a single focal point.

Directly behind him. Where Bruga lay motionless.

WHAT IS THIS?! Sol’s mind screamed, his instincts flaring with an unprecedented alarm.

WHOOSH!

Without warning, an explosive atmospheric vortex erupted from Bruga’s body.

A violent, shrieking whirlwind of pulverized limestone dust, slate-grey essence, and crimson blood whipped into existence, swirling around the giant’s collapsed frame like a localized hurricane.

The wind pressure was so immense that it tore off dead soldiers and hurled massive rocks through the air like thrown gravel.

Sol didn’t hesitate. Recognizing the extreme danger of an unknown Layer 4 anomaly, he engaged the high-frequency burst of his Dreadwing Wings.

BOOM!

He launched himself backward in a low-altitude bullet-dash, putting hundred of yards of distance between himself and the swirling dust storm in a fraction of a millisecond.

The Veynar loyalists under Commander Thauren halted their advance, their eyes wide with rising dread. The traitorous Elder Thorne stumbled backward, his sallow face twitching as he stared at the roaring vortex.

"Is... is the Grand Chieftain..." a Zharun captain stammered.

Inside the thirty-foot-tall whirlwind of dust and compressed air, a horrific, squelching sound began to echo.

SQUELCH. SNAP. CRACK.

It sounded like giant iron cables being violently twisted together, mixed with the wet, sickening tearing of raw meat and the loud, structural snapping of heavy bones resetting themselves.

The slate-grey environmental essence wasn’t just surrounding Bruga... it was violently forcing its way into his open wounds! The ambient life-force of the valley, combined with the boiling, mutated stamina of his Marauder physiology, was being consumed in a desperate, unnatural forced-evolution cycle!

Slowly, the roaring whirlwind began to die down. The heavy chalk dust settled back toward the blood-stained earth.

And from within the thinning haze, a dark, titanic silhouette began to rise.

"AHAHAHAHAHA!"

A booming, thunderous laugh erupted from the dust cloud... a voice so heavy, so dense with crushing pressure, that the surrounding slate cliffs groaned under the resonance. Loose stones rained down into the gorge.

"DID YOU REALLY THINK IT WOULD BE THAT EASY, LITTLE FLEA?!" Bruga’s voice roared, echoing with a dual-toned, terrifying echo that vibrated inside the teeth of every living man present. "DID YOU THINK A LAYER 4 WARLORD CAN BE SLAIN BY A SINGLE MERE CUT?!"

The dust cleared completely, revealing a sight that turned the stomach of every Veynar warrior present.

Grand Chieftain Bruga was standing back up on his two pillar-like legs. But he was no longer the same brute as before.

The massive, four-foot cleave wound across his chest... the fatal blow delivered by Sol’s Dreadwing blade... was violently squirming! Hundreds of thick, jet-black, worm-like muscle fibers were bursting out of the open flesh, weaving and stitching themselves together in real-time like living iron threads!

The severed ribs were snapping back into place with loud CLACKS, the pectoral muscle knitting together so fast that wet steam billowed out of the wound in white, hissing clouds!

Even more horrifying was his physical transformation.

Bruga’s twenty-foot frame had expanded to nearly twenty-five feet. His skin, previously a scarred grey, had turned a deep, obsidian-like slate.

Thick, broken bone spikes were rupturing through the skin along his spine, shoulders, and forearms, forming a natural, structural bone armor.

His eyes was burning with a blinding, apocalyptic yellow light, radiating a suffocating atmospheric pressure twice as dense as before!

Seeing this Chief Vane, coalition warriors and the Veynar traitors, who had been on the verge of routing, suddenly let out wild, hysterical cheers. "THE GRAND CHIEFTAIN IS UNKILLABLE! KILL THE VEYNAR! SLAUGHTER THEM ALL!"
