Nora Pell's statement arrived as six lines and one mistake.

The mistake came first: Ty saved Mr. Hollis.

Jade reached for the tablet before the route could swallow the sentence whole. Waddell was already there, blocking the statement from the public feed and opening it inside the shelter review pane.

"Hold," he said.

Tessa's phone stayed pointed at the floor. Her bandaged hand had gone still.

Caelin read the line twice and looked sick. "She means the face."

"She wrote Ty," Waddell said.

"She was bleeding when she saw him."

"The route will ignore that."

Jade took the tablet from him. The hospital text system showed a nurse's verification stamp, Nora's initials, and a note that the statement had been typed through assisted communication. Short answers. Limited strain. No video.

Jade would take no video like water.

The note carried three delay marks: pause for pain, pause for oxygen, pause requested by patient. That last one slowed Jade down. Nora had stopped them once already from turning her into a clean object. Even from a hospital bed, she was still choosing where the camera could stand.

Jade read the remaining lines.

He saw me. He stepped over me. He went to Hollis. He came back when I said drawer. He moved toward me after I said blood on money.

The shelter handled each line differently. Tessa's fingers tightened around the phone. Kieran lowered her head near the cot. Caelin sat down as if his legs had only just told him the chair existed. Waddell leaned over the tablet with the flat focus he used when anger had work clothes on.

Jade turned the first line back toward them. "We correct Ty before it leaves this room."

Tessa lifted her bandaged hand halfway. "Let me say something before you all make it official."

Jade waited.

Tessa looked at the hospital text until her eyes watered. "When Nora says Ty, she means the face she saw while bleeding. She also means the man people told her was Ty on the feed. She might mean both because pain makes language grab the closest rail."

Caelin lowered his marker.

"If you correct her like she failed," Tessa said, "I will be angry."

Waddell glanced at the floor feed. "Useful anger or hallway anger?"

"Currently useful."

"Keep it useful."

The Name Office heard the correction request and Zunoder opposed it before anyone in the hallway spoke. His reflection opened in the black edge of the hospital text pane, wearing Ty's face like patience.

"Do not edit the witness," he said.

Jade looked at him. "Do not hide behind an injured woman."

"Her first word matters."

"Her whole statement matters."

"Then send it whole."

He had chosen a true shape. Jade hated him for it. If they corrected Nora too hard, they looked like they were cleaning a witness. If they sent the statement uncorrected, the public gained one more line that put Ty's name on Zunoder's act.

Waddell pointed to the nurse note. "Append context. Do not rewrite."

Caelin found his voice. "Statement one is witness language under medical strain. Official context says face-user claimant performed the action."

"Too soft," Tessa said.

Jade looked at her, and Tessa kept the phone down.

"Nora should not have to be precise while stitched together. You can be precise around her."

Jade nodded. "Write it."

Tessa lowered her bandaged hand before anyone could thank her. Her fingers were shaking. The phone stayed pointed at the floor anyway.

Caelin wrote the context on the board first, as if the wall could hold him accountable: Nora's words preserved. The person she called Ty is the face-user claimant.

The route accepted the wording, and Zunoder smiled.

"Face-user claimant saved Mr. Hollis," he said.

The hallway recorded the body action confirmed by injured witness. JJ swore. Omina accepted the line before JJ could slap something over it.

"It is true," Omina said.

"I know it is true," JJ snapped. "That is why I hate where he put it."

Ty looked at the line. He had already known the old body had saved people. Knowing never stopped a fact from cutting when it found a better angle.

Zunoder stepped closer to the body-action line. "Purpose. A body that returns to danger to save one person after stepping over another. Flawed, perhaps. Recognizable. Public. Human. The world knows what to call that."

Ty answered before anger found a weapon. "Selective."

The word landed small. Jade heard it through the caption delay and looked up.

Ty kept going. "He saved Hollis after leaving Nora. He came back when the drawer threatened the clip. That is not nothing. It is not enough."

Nora's statement updated with one final line.

I thought he was Ty until he looked mad that I saw the second part.

Tessa made a sound and covered it with her bandaged hand. Waddell read the line once, then sent the whole statement through the verified channel with Caelin's context attached.

He sent it slowly. Each line passed through the consent pins first: no video, exact words, no face-user image. The route scraped at the edges and found no handle wide enough to pull.

The public thread bucked. Ty saved someone. Face-user claimant. Who cares, he saved Hollis. Nora says he stepped over her. Why was the drawer important? What is the second part?

The Name Office clock moved from 21 to 24. The clock rewarded the rescue line first. Then Nora's second part dragged it back.

The route tried to stack both pieces into one column. Omina forced the split. Body action: rescue confirmed. Body action: omission confirmed. Body action: witness suppression attempt confirmed.

Zunoder watched each line appear and accepted all three.

Denial was not his path. The rescue line only needed to grow faster than the omission line, and it would. People liked saved faces. People understood the person lifted into frame. The body on the floor made them uncomfortable because seeing her meant asking why the camera had missed her.

Jade turned toward Waddell. "Keep the second part pinned. No edits. No face crop."

"Already on all three," he said.

Tessa looked at the floor feed and spoke softly enough that only the table mic caught it. "Nora, if you can see this, I kept it ugly."

The hospital typing indicator blinked.

One word came back. Yes.

Then another line arrived in pieces, with the nurse note marking a pause after each word.

Keep the second part.

Tessa put her bandaged hand over her mouth.

Jade read the line twice and turned the tablet so Waddell could see it. "Pin second part as Nora's phrase."

Waddell did. Second part: what the camera missed.

Caelin added it to the public categories with a hand that shook less than before. The phrase caught faster than Jade wanted. People could understand second part. They could ask for it without knowing hospital law, route law, or why a skeleton's name was on trial.

That made the phrase useful and dangerous. It could become a rescue chant before Nora woke again. It could also become another way to make her explain her wound for strangers who wanted a better angle.

Waddell saw the same risk. "Cap the phrase under Nora's medical limit."

Jade nodded. "Do it before they make graphics."

Zunoder saw it too. "Second part implies first part. The first part remains my rescue."

Jade's answer came through the feed. "It remains the rescue you chose to show."

Nora's typing indicator blinked again, then stopped. The nurse note replaced it.

Patient asleep.

That line did more for the room than another statement would have. It reminded everyone that the witness was a body in a bed, not a faucet they could keep turning.

The route entered Nora Pell's statement under medical limit. Public weight moderate. Body rescue weight increased. Omission weight increased.

JJ rubbed the bridge of her nose. "He won something."

Ty nodded. "Yes."

Zunoder smiled with his old mouth. "Recognition can be imperfect. It only needs to be easier."
