From Human to Skeleton: Revived with Infinite System Crystals
Chapter 800 - 800: Jade Refuses The Clean ClipThe clean clip arrived edited before Jade saw the original.
That told her enough.
It came through three public accounts, Caelin's office inbox, and one shelter volunteer who looked ashamed as soon as Waddell asked where she had found it.
The clip was twelve seconds long. Ty's skeleton on the split screen. The old question held up in Waddell's hand. If Tessa has evidence in one hand and a wounded stranger in front of her, what does she save first?
Then Ty's answer.
The stranger.
The edit cut there. No route. No cost. No Nora. No Tessa on the floor. No context that the answer had come through Jade's damaged hearing and a shelter full of people trying to keep a child out of frame.
Just the answer, polished into something easy to share and easier to ruin.
Tessa watched it once and put her phone under her thigh like she was afraid her hand would post something by accident. "They made him sound clean."
Jade nodded.
Waddell killed the volunteer's repost from the shelter network and handed the phone back without scolding. That restraint cost him. Jade saw it in the tendons of his hand.
"This will move faster than the Nora statement," he said.
"Of course it will."
"Because it is short."
"Because it asks nothing from them."
Caelin stood at the bulletin board with the marker cap between his teeth. He took it out when Jade looked at him.
"It helps Bone Half publicly," he said.
Jade stared, and he stood his ground. Fear made him slippery. Standing still made him useful.
"It does," Caelin said. "A public moral answer. Clear. Memorable. It separates him from the face-user claimant."
Tessa turned her head. "It turns him into a line people can throw at other witnesses."
Caelin hesitated.
Jade pointed at Tessa. "That."
The Name Office picked up the clip anyway and recorded the public clip as B.H. answers stranger first. Witness safety value high. Public name value rising.
Zunoder's reflection appeared in the dark tablet edge. "You should let it run."
Jade looked at him. "That is how I know I should not."
"It helps your side."
"It helps the version of my side that turns every person in here into proof."
"You cannot win a public claim without public clarity."
"Then we lose that part today."
Waddell's eyes moved to her. Caelin stopped writing. Tessa looked down at the tile feed like it was the only safe thing to study.
Jade felt the Reaper thread behind her eye tighten in approval or warning. She never knew which anymore. She pressed two fingers under the brow and waited for the room to stop tilting.
Kieran the Hunter rose from beside the cot. "Do you need me to take the command?"
Jade lowered her hand. "No."
The answer came too fast. Kieran heard that too.
Jade corrected herself. "Stand by. If my hearing drops again, cut the shelter feed."
"Accepted."
Waddell already had the switch under his thumb.
Jade typed the public response herself because the words needed to have fingerprints. The first version sounded official, so she deleted it and wrote the one that would make people angry for the right reason.
You are sharing the easy part. The hard part is still pinned. Do not use his answer as an order for someone else.
Tessa leaned forward and picked the line before Caelin could clean it. "That one."
Caelin nodded. "That will anger people."
"Let them spend time proving it," Waddell said, and Jade posted it.
The public thread reacted exactly as badly as expected. Why hide the answer? Shelter controls B.H. Let him speak. The stranger first.
The repeated line entered the Name Office as a public moral label forming.
Ty saw it from the hallway and felt his own answer turn into a handle. It was a strong answer, which was why it scared him. Strong answers traveled better than careful ones. People could put them on signs, edits, shirts, threats, prayers, orders. They could tell the next Tessa to save the stranger while filming. They could tell the next Nora to be grateful for becoming proof.
Ty looked at Jade through the caption delay. She had refused the clean clip.
The route punished her for it: public name value reduced, shelter trust contested, witness safety preserved.
Zunoder stepped into the gap. "While they argue about ethics, the face-user claimant has already acted in public. Rescue footage remains available. Mr. Hollis remains alive because this body moved."
Omina recorded the pressure. Zunoder public action weight stable. B.H. public moral clip limited by shelter.
JJ closed her eyes. "That hurts."
Jade read the caption and answered from the shelter with one word. Yes.
No speech. No defense. Just the yes. Ty liked her more for not making the loss sound strategic.
The volunteer who had reposted the clip stood near the supply shelf with both hands twisted in her shirt. Jade turned to her.
"Name."
The young woman swallowed. "Anika Bell."
Mason's last name landed in the room. Every adult felt it. Jade kept her face steady.
"Relation?"
"None. I think. It is common. I should have said before."
Waddell checked the roster. "Volunteer kitchen intake. Cleared two days ago."
Anika looked ready to cry. "I thought it helped."
Jade believed her. Believing her only made the staffing call sharper.
"It did help," Jade said. "That is why we had to stop it."
Anika stared at her. Tessa said from the table, "Yeah. That part takes a minute."
Anika wiped both palms on her volunteer apron. "Do I leave?"
Jade wanted to say no because the girl already looked punished enough. Waddell answered before kindness could make a bad staffing choice.
"You leave the network desk. Kitchen only until review."
Anika nodded hard. Her voice cracked when she accepted it.
Jade let Waddell's call stand. The shelter still needed soup, water, clean cups, and people who could follow tighter lanes after making a mistake. Mercy General had taught all of them what happened when every error became exile. Jade had no interest in copying that with better lighting.
"Kitchen only," Jade said. "And Anika?"
The girl stopped.
"You report anyone asking you to repost shelter material."
Anika nodded again, slower this time. "I can do that."
Waddell added the staffing change to the shelter log: volunteer access reduced, network error contained, shelter labor retained.
The route tried to make the Bell surname glow. Jade put a finger over it.
"Common name. No relation on record. No child linkage."
The glow died.
The public clock ticked in the Name Office and landed on 28.
Erebos recorded the cost in blunt terms. Public clarity refused to preserve witness safety. Cost accepted.
Jade sat down before her knees made the choice without her. The clean clip kept traveling. Now it traveled with the shelter's refusal attached, and the public hated the refusal almost as much as it loved the line.
On the table, the next notification lit Waddell's tablet before anyone had finished hating the last one.
