The request appeared under Kieran's debt and Ty's route as if the drawer had been waiting for a clean place to put it.

Apply to the current subject.

Omina moved her hilt between the lines.

"Read scope before anyone applies the law to him."

The drawer offered partial scope.

Zunoder accepted too quickly.

"Open the law without touching application to the current subject."

Omina watched the drawer, not him.

"Limited scope only, with no application request today."

Limited review reduced Ty's immediate defense against the route using his name. He had to pay before the law even touched him.

Ty was tired of that kind of payment, the kind that took ground from him before proving it had a right to stand there. He nodded anyway, and Omina entered the limit before the drawer could call his exhaustion permission.

The law opened with a neat name.

Identity erasure law, using Alexira as reset precedent.

Its stated purpose was separation of contaminated records from post-reset administration.

JJ read the sentence and made a face.

"That sentence has gloves on to hide its hands."

Mara answered before Zunoder could make the language clean.

"It means they made a law for deciding who still counted."

She stopped there, but her eyes stayed on the page. Ty could see the rest of it in her face. Who counted. Who counted less. Who counted only when someone important needed them later.

The law had a tidy name because tidy names traveled through offices better than screams.

Rose looked at the line.

"Counting also makes people disappear when offices need silence."

The drawer kept the erasure warning attached.

The scope listed its conditions in plain enough language to hurt. A prior identity could be deemed unsafe for a new route. Prior claims could create administrative conflict. A reset authority had to certify a continuity break.

Ty heard the shape under the words. Unsafe meant inconvenient. Conflict meant expensive. Continuity break meant someone with a seal could decide when a person stopped being continuous enough to keep.

Continuity break gave Zunoder a handle.

He stepped toward it.

"The current subject has identity conflict, title conflict, and route conflict."

Omina cut in before the list became a door.

"Certification is missing from the current case record."

Zunoder turned that absence toward the sealed item.

"The sealed item may contain the missing authority."

Omina's grip tightened on the hilt.

"The sealed item sleeps because contact remains unsafe."

"The subject created that absence through his own refusal."

Omina wrote the boundary before refusal could become evidence against itself.

Refusal lacked the power to manufacture certification for the law.

The drawer gave the boundary low weight.

JJ rubbed her forehead.

"Low is starting to feel personal in this room."

The law shifted to the signer chain. The primary signer stayed sealed, the secondary signer remained possibly active, and the archive required an Angelic witness key before moving further.

Mara closed her eyes.

Rose looked at her again.

"Mara, tell us only what they can use safely."

Mara's mouth tightened.

"I know the kind of person they would use as one."

The drawer marked a possible living line.

Zunoder smiled.

"Then the line can be located for review."

Jade's voice cut through from the shelter feed.

"No hunting witness lines through her memory today."

The search option appeared anyway.

Omina struck the drawer edge with her hilt.

"Deny the search before it turns memory into map."

The denial hit Mara before the cost did. Her shoulders moved down, not relaxed, only set back into her own body. She had been preparing for the room to turn her face into directions.

Rose saw it too.

"No one searches from her face or fear."

The drawer accepted that witness memory was not a search map, then gave the protection low weight.

The cost stayed ugly, leaving the signer chain partial and the law challenge unresolved.

Mara swallowed and kept her eyes on the table.

Ty understood the cost. Every denial left Zunoder with unresolved ground. Every opening risked feeding someone into the file. Mara's shoulders were tight enough to hurt through the screen.

Ty spoke before the next request could form.

"No witness line search from my side today."

The refusal entered with public and route cost. The reset law challenge stayed available.

Omina added the reason. The refusal protected an uncontacted living line.

Low weight again.

JJ said nothing this time. She looked angry enough to save the joke for later.

Caelin's aide hesitated over the public caption.

Jade caught it from the shelter feed.

"Do not soften this into obstruction on the feed."

The aide looked to Caelin.

He gave one short nod, and the aide sent the caption in one plain line: protected living line, search denied, law challenge unresolved.

The caption went out plain enough to make people angry. That helped. A soft caption would invite strangers to pretend they only wanted context. A plain caption told them there was a person under the missing key.

Mara read it without lifting her head, one hand flat on the table while her fingers loosened by a fraction. After taking plenty from her memory already, the room left one door shut.

Waddell watched the replies begin to move.

"Say protected line before they learn to say hidden witness."

Caelin's aide typed again.

Ty watched the words appear and felt the cost settle in a different place. The public would call it concealment. Zunoder would call it withheld authority. Mara got one more breath without becoming a map.

Mara lowered her head once, careful to keep it from becoming thanks. Thanks would make the room hungry. This was closer to someone setting down a cup before their hand shook.

The law moved to current comparison. Prior identity claims, title claims, and the route using his name all remained active while the body route stayed contested and reset authority stayed absent.

The list looked orderly until Ty read it as hands. Old identity pulled one way. Public title pulled another. The route inside the file tugged from underneath. Body proof shifted under his feet.

No reset authority meant no official knife yet.

Zunoder had still shown the room where one could be found.

Ty felt that part in his legs. The file measured where a cut might be easiest, then asked everyone to admire the accuracy of the ruler.

Ty looked at Omina's hilt.

It was not enough by itself. Nothing here was. The review had become a stack of insufficient things placed in the way of something cleaner and stronger, which should have ended hope and only made the work smaller.

Zunoder pointed to the comparison.

"Four active conflicts make application reasonable to review."

Omina answered with the missing piece.

"One required certification is still missing from the file."

"The requirement can be produced through relevant authority."

"By waking a sealed item or hunting a witness line."

"By accessing authority the law already recognizes as valid."

Yun-Jin leaned forward.

"Authority that eats consent needs containment before use."

The drawer entered containment as required before use.

For once, the line carried real weight.

JJ noticed.

"It can learn when the answer costs enough."

Zunoder's jaw set. He took another angle.

"Even without clean application, the law establishes separation for administrative survival."

Omina nodded once.

"Alexira also establishes that separation can become erasure."

The precedent cut both ways.

Ty liked that sentence less than he should have. Both ways meant no clean win. It also kept Zunoder from using the law like a single blade.

Omina underlined the phrase.

"Both ways stays visible until the public sees it."

Caelin's aide pushed that into the controlled caption before the crowd could trim the half it disliked.

Kieran's record entered another line.

They called separation mercy.

Rose read it softly.

"What name should the record use instead of mercy?"

The answer came as one word.

Useful.

Useful sat beside care line, property, title, and route while the old world and the current file met in the same ugly place. One had used mercy as a tool. The other used uncertainty.

Ty looked at the word until it stopped being old.

Useful was what people called harm when they wanted the room to thank them for it.

Omina wrote the danger under the law title. Mercy language could conceal administrative use.

Zunoder answered.

"Use can still serve a valid function under law."

Ty turned toward him.

"It tells me who the function serves first."

The drawer entered Ty's challenge to the beneficiary of the function.

Zunoder's face went still.

Then the law produced one more line.

The secondary signer had returned a ping.

Caelin's aide straightened.

"Ping returned from which authority exactly right now?"

The source stayed sealed.

The answer with teeth entered anyway.

The signer still answered.
