From Human to Skeleton: Revived with Infinite System Crystals

Chapter 837 - 837: The Handler Number Refuses A Face

The sealed handler number made the room act careful.

Ty distrusted careful more than force by then. Force showed the hand. Careful came with clean pages, lowered voices, and somebody waiting for him to step into a prepared shape.

His missing finger hurt worse after the seal appeared.

The pain squeezed through empty air, ran into his palm, then stopped at the old edge of the wound as if the body remembered a wall there.

Yun-Jin still held his sleeve.

Omina looked at that grip before she looked at the drawer.

"No one moves the missing hand toward the door for a better answer."

The drawer accepted the sentence with poor grace. Ty felt the drag under his heel, like a clerk pulling a form back across a desk.

Zunoder gave the sealed line a generous look.

"The threshold accepted contact before this hearing, which means recognition is already in evidence."

Omina set a fresh sheet beside the black page. Across the top she wrote contact, recognition, consent, and ownership, with enough space between each word for a hand to fit.

"Four separate questions, four separate costs, and none gets to answer for the others."

Zunoder stepped closer to the edge of the boot mark and stopped before Omina had to warn him.

"Separating them may comfort the room, but the door made contact with a piece of him."

"A lock can touch a stolen key without marrying the thief."

JJ's pencil stopped moving. Omina kept writing, which made the line worse because she had meant it.

The drawer marked contact as established and tried to let recognition follow.

Omina crossed the next lane with one straight line.

"Contact is already ugly enough. Recognition needs proof of what answered."

The drawer shifted toward the sealed item, and Ty's bones tightened.

He kept his right hand open where everyone could see the missing place. The room had earned a fist. He gave it the wound.

Mara watched the door without turning her head all the way.

"Old seals can register material and still reject personhood. People got hurt that way."

Rose touched the tape line with her shoe and stayed on her side of it.

"Then say the hurt part first, because the seal will prefer the neat part."

Mara breathed once through her nose.

"A piece can be used to make a machine say yes while the person is somewhere else saying nothing."

The drawer took the sentence, and Ty hated that it helped.

Zunoder's face held steady, but his hand moved once against his coat cuff.

"The handler number is sealed because handler identity carries protected authority. Forcing it open may poison the review."

JJ turned her pencil between two fingers.

"Protected authority is how a dirty hand wears a clean glove."

Heissman had gone pale in the patchy way of a man watching an old rule become personal.

"A handler number can open by station without opening the name."

He swallowed when Omina looked at him.

"Station, shift, access source, return status. Those are lower facts. The face can stay sealed if the room only needs whether the handler had lawful custody."

Zunoder took the word lawful before anyone else could reach it.

"If lawful custody exists, then the threshold contact improves."

Yun-Jin answered while keeping her hand on Ty's sleeve.

"Lawful custody of a severed piece still needs the body accounted for."

Ty felt the drawer listen harder to lawful custody than to severed piece. Omina wrote body accounted for under every column except contact, then wrote it again in the margin when the drawer resisted.

Jade's feed crackled from the shelter tablet. The image showed a corner of the cafeteria table, three napkins, and Waddell's hand holding the tablet steady.

"Public side is already turning the missing bone into a scavenger hunt."

Caelin's office feed came in half a beat after hers.

"We posted no private searches, but people are using the warning as a map."

"Then your office wrote the map wrong enough to hurt people."

Caelin's aide started typing while Waddell gave him the uglier version, naming bones, bands, badges, and child names as reportable claims before anyone answered them.

The drawer marked public contamination risk as active.

"Public contamination is another reason to keep the handler sealed."

"Public contamination is the reason we open station facts before rumor writes them."

Ty felt the boot mark warm under his heel and shifted his weight back. The door gave no sound, which made the pull harder to argue with while everyone around it kept offering words on its behalf.

"Station facts only. No face. No voice. No inherited authority. No title conclusion."

The drawer accepted the first three limits and dragged on title conclusion until Ty's ankle answered with pain.

Yun-Jin's hand tightened on his sleeve. Cloth bit into his arm.

"You are pulling him across the floor for a word," she said.

The drawer marked subject pressure observed. Ty almost laughed, but it would have come out wrong.

"Observed after doing it is not the same as stopping."

Omina put her pen down.

"Subject pressure pauses the handler request until the room names who pays for the next line."

The drawer held.

Heissman leaned over the form without crossing the boot mark.

"Station disclosure usually charges the authority that requests it."

JJ's pencil moved again.

"Usually is another place where bodies go missing on paper."

Heissman accepted that by failing to defend himself.

"If Ty requests it, the file can treat him as claimant to the bone. If the public office requests it, Zunoder can argue outside interference. If the review requests it, Omina takes custody risk."

Ty's hand twitched. The choices boxed him in: claimant, silence, politics, or Omina carrying risk for a piece of him.

He looked at Omina and found her already watching.

"I am not asking you to carry this," she said.

Zunoder's mouth softened into almost kindness.

"That generosity creates its own ownership frame around the evidence."

Omina turned back to the drawer.

"The review requests lower station facts as evidence custodian. The missing remains belong to the body, not the review. The review accepts risk for mishandling, not ownership."

The drawer waited for the cost, then printed it as a working line rather than a command.

If station facts fail to support misuse, the review absorbs obstruction weight.

Heissman rubbed one hand over his mouth.

JJ said, "Translate that before it grows a uniform and salutes."

Omina kept her eyes on the page.

"If this opens nothing useful, the review looks like it delayed a lawful sealed record for pain it cannot prove."

Zunoder spread his hands, and Ty finally looked at him long enough to let anger find a place.

"You keep calling my missing finger fair when the word helps you."

Jade's voice cut across both feeds.

"Personal rule was when somebody pressed his bone against a sealed door and filed it under procedure."

Omina accepted the obstruction cost.

The choice moved through the floor. Ty's missing finger stopped squeezing for one breath and started again lower in the wrist.

The handler seal thinned and returned only station facts: night routing station four, borrowed access, return status unresolved.

Heissman made a small broken sound, and JJ turned on him at once.

"Use all your words before your office chooses them for you."

Heissman pointed at borrowed access with two fingers.

"A station handler cannot borrow access from a sealed-item desk unless a supervisor authorizes the cross-route."

Zunoder answered too quickly.

"Then supervisor authority supports lawful custody over the contact."

Omina's pen moved before his sentence finished. She wrote that borrowed access failed the custody test where Ty could read it upside down.

The drawer fought the line, then accepted it with low weight.

Mara kept looking at the unresolved return status.

"If the access was borrowed, something was supposed to be returned."

Rose looked from Mara to Ty's hand and back again.

"Say whether you mean the bone or the authority."

Mara shook her head once.

"That is the part the record is hiding."

Ty felt the door pull again, weaker this time but smarter. It aimed for his missing finger, then for the sheet, then for the blank space where a supervisor should have been.

Omina covered the station line with her palm.

"No threshold answer. No title answer. The review asks what was borrowed."

The drawer searched long enough for paper to shift around the room.

Jade kept the tablet angled away from the children. Yun-Jin kept Ty's sleeve rather than his skin.

Ty stayed where he was.

The drawer gave the next line at last. The borrowed access had no log against the bone.

JJ's pencil stopped again.

Heissman whispered, "Then what was it logged against before the threshold contact?"

Omina looked at him until he corrected himself and faced the drawer.

"What item carried the borrowed access before the missing remains touched the threshold?"

The drawer opened a partial answer and sealed the rest. Temporary escort band, pediatric routing, damaged name field.

Jade's tablet went very still. No one looked toward the children, which was the only decent thing the room managed at once.

Ty looked at his open hand and felt the missing finger hurt in a new place.

The handler number still had no face, only a child's band.
