From Human to Skeleton: Revived with Infinite System Crystals
Chapter 849 - 849: The Top Page Kept A PocketCaelin's aide stopped writing after the word cover.
Her pen stayed above the pad. Ink gathered at the tip until a small dot marked the paper beside the empty office line.
Ty saw her notice it.
She rubbed the dot with her thumb and made it worse.
No one laughed. That helped.
Omina left the object where it was and moved one step sideways.
"Open maker role without personal name or location."
The file gave Ty a flat pressure under the wrist, a shape the room had learned by feel. Refusal had weight, delay had grain, and this carried neither.
Something sat behind the drawer and kept the drawer from opening.
Omina waited.
Zunoder folded his hands on the table.
"A cover can generate from routing rules without a maker."
JJ turned her pencil over in her fingers.
"Workers use rules that someone chose to keep."
Heissman looked at the cover line, then at Mara.
"Templates can outlive every person who remembers why they exist."
Mara's face changed at that. The change stayed small, but Ty caught it because Rose's hand moved closer to her shoulder without touching.
Mara looked at the floor between her shoes.
"Old templates are where bad habits go when people stop saying them aloud."
The file shifted, too tight to open but clear enough to prove Mara had reached something.
Omina kept her pen still.
"Open template origin class without office name or address."
This time the answer came slowly, one plain line at the lower edge of the page.
The origin class was temporary escort packet layout.
Ty read it twice, and temporary escort sat in his head with the weight of cheap tape.
Mara pressed her thumb hard into her sleeve seam.
Rose said her name under her breath, soft enough that the room could leave it alone.
Caelin's younger aide wrote the phrase and left a wide space underneath.
The phone in front of her lit again. Caelin shook his head before she could ask, and she answered it herself.
"The office has no hospital name to give you today."
The caller talked over her.
Her mouth tightened.
"A layout class is not a public search target."
Waddell leaned toward Jade's tablet.
"Good. Make that the second wall, before somebody sells a map."
Jade wrote it down without looking at him.
Ty kept reading the new line. Temporary escort packet layout sounded too ordinary for what it had carried. A child could vanish under words like that. A dead man's warning could get folded under a line meant for somebody with a cart and tired feet.
Yun-Jin watched Ty's hand.
She gave him the room to choose again.
He kept his palm down.
Omina looked from Ty to Mara, then back to the page.
"Open whether the layout created the two views by default."
Zunoder sat forward.
"That phrasing assumes the split came from the layout."
Omina nodded once.
"Then the record can correct the phrasing if needed."
The file answered fast enough to make Ty's teeth set.
Default layout carried single worker view.
JJ stopped turning the pencil.
"So the split got added for this packet."
Zunoder lifted one finger.
"Or for a category of packets in the same risk class."
Heissman looked tired in a way sleep never fixed.
"That is still an added rule, not inherited paper."
Omina wrote added display rule beside the cover.
The line accepted at medium weight.
Ty felt the room change around that word. Added. Someone had touched the old layout and made it do new work.
Mara drew a careful breath through her nose.
"Temporary escort forms usually hide medical details from the escort."
Zunoder spread his hands.
"That protects patients from gossip during a movement job."
Mara nodded because the point had a clean part.
"Yes. It also means the escort trusts the top page more than the person behind it."
Rose let her speak.
Mara kept going because stopping would make the room ask harder questions.
"If somebody adds a burden field above that line, the escort carries a secret they never had a chance to refuse."
Omina wrote burden hidden from escort by added display rule.
The file fought the last word.
Omina changed nothing.
Ty felt the pressure climb under his wrist. Yun-Jin shifted closer, then held herself still.
He pressed his fingers flat and counted the desk edge under each one.
The line settled.
Medium again.
JJ exhaled through her teeth.
"Medium keeps showing up where the truth still has a suit on."
Waddell's tablet speaker caught Caelin's rough little laugh.
He cut it off before it became anything useful.
"Public office needs that new script before calls multiply."
Jade answered while still writing.
"Layout class is under review. No office names. No hospital locations. No search lists."
Caelin's aide repeated the script into her call.
The caller shouted loud enough for Ty to hear shape without words.
She waited until the shouting ran out.
"If you post a location guess, this office will report the account."
Caelin looked at her.
The aide kept her eyes on the pad.
"That is within our published safety policy today."
Caelin settled back.
Ty liked her for that. Then he hated that liking had room to happen here.
Omina touched the page with the back of her pen.
"Open who selected the added display rule by role only."
The page tightened.
Zunoder spoke before it answered.
"Role can identify office chain if the class is too narrow."
Omina looked at him.
"Then give me the safe boundary before the page chooses for us."
Zunoder paused.
He was careful in that pause. Ty hated him less when he was careful for the right reason.
"Role family only. No desk title. No unit name. No shift label."
Omina wrote his boundary.
"Open role family only, with those boundaries entered."
The file resisted, then named the selector in the careful language of work.
The selector came back as the packet preparation function.
Heissman rubbed both hands over his face.
"Preparation selected it before the review chair received anything."
Omina marked it.
"The split existed before the chair examined the cover."
"The chair received a prepared packet, not an empty layout."
Ty looked at him then.
Heissman had stopped sounding like a man explaining his field. He sounded like a man watching his field step away from him and still recognizing the walk.
Mara pointed at the page with two fingers, hand low.
"Preparation is where the hidden pocket usually lives."
Omina looked at her.
Mara swallowed once.
"A layout gives you boxes. A preparer chooses which box gets fed."
The file shifted hard.
Ty's wrist flared.
He bent over his own hand before he meant to.
Yun-Jin moved then. She put two fingers on the desk beside his, close enough for him to feel the offer without taking it from him.
He stayed upright.
Barely.
Omina's voice stayed even.
"Open whether the holder condition entered through a standard visible field or a hidden preparation pocket."
The page held.
Phones kept ringing in the public office feed. Chairs scraped there. Somebody asked for a supervisor and got told the supervisor was the person already saying no.
Ty heard all of it through the pressure in his wrist.
The answer opened.
The holder-set release condition entered through a preparation pocket. The page still protected the office name and the person, but the pocket sat exposed.
JJ put her pencil down.
"Pocket means the worker view was starving by design."
Zunoder's jaw tightened.
"Pocket means restricted carry, not proven malice yet."
Jade answered from the tablet before Omina could decide whether to let that stand.
"Restricted carry becomes malice when the wrong person gets starved."
Mara closed her eyes for one breath.
Rose finally touched her shoulder.
Omina wrote both positions, then drew one line beneath the part the record had earned.
"Preparation pocket carried holder condition outside downstream view."
The file accepted at high weight.
Ty's hand went cold.
High weight always made the room smaller.
Caelin's aide read the new line from the tablet feed. Her pen moved to the blank office space, then away from it.
She wrote pocket under layout class.
Caelin saw it.
"Leave the name line empty until the record earns it."
She looked up at him.
"I know where the blank belongs now, sir."
She said it without looking ashamed of the empty space.
Waddell shifted his tablet angle so Jade could see the aide's pad.
"She is learning where the blank line matters."
Jade's face stayed hard.
"Good. Now she gets to live with people demanding she fill them."
Omina asked the next question before pity could settle anywhere.
"Open whether the preparation pocket required manual selection."
The file answered after one rough drag across the page.
The answer came back as manual selection present.
Ty's fingers curled.
Yun-Jin's fingers stayed near his and left the choice there.
Omina added the line.
"Manual selection was present before the chair review."
Zunoder closed his eyes.
For once, every prepared sentence failed him.
Heissman found one and hated it as it left him.
"A person selected the pocket before the chair saw the packet."
Mara stared at the page.
"Then the top page had a hand behind it."
Ty looked at the empty office line again.
It stayed empty.
The hand had no name yet.
The cover had a maker now, and the hand was close enough to hurt.
