Chapter 208: Chapter 5: What a Genius Stoops to Pick Is Treasure

The recent departure of Andy, a newcomer, failed to cause the slightest ripple at No. 35 Taming Center.

All traces of his existence were instantly erased, and everyone quickly forgot him.

After all, Andy was just an insignificant figure, and it was uncertain whether he would even be able to remain at the academy after six months.

「Two hours later.」

Mo Ning put down his copy of *Magic Analysis*, took a heavy Crystal Solid Bell in each hand, and began to shake them gently.

Tiny specks of light danced across the surfaces of the bells, lending the pair of items a mysterious quality.

This was a Witchcraft Item: the Iron-Horned War Rhinoceros Summoning Bell.

Its function wasn’t complicated: to release a Magic Power signal that summoned the War Rhinoceroses back from the jungle.

As Spiritual Creatures, War Rhinoceroses were quite stubborn. If they got carried away while playing in their activity area, even their Tamers found it difficult to call them back.

The magical signal released by the Summoning Bell would subtly influence the War Rhinoceros’s brain, compelling it to obey the command instinctively.

But this method could not be abused.

Any Witchcraft that forcibly altered thoughts would affect the soul to some degree. If used too frequently, it would most likely diminish their soul’s potential.

Mo Ning locked the bells in a safe, noted their use on the Crystal Stone Record Board, and left the toolroom, ready to welcome the two "big boys" home.

That’s right. Even though Kent and Barce were over a hundred years old, for long-lived Spiritual Creatures like the War Rhinoceros, they were still in their youth.

Just as he stepped outside, Mo Ning saw Rock, a Second Level Apprentice.

He quickly greeted him, "Good afternoon, Mr. Rock!"

Rock smiled and nodded in response, a stark contrast to the dismissive attitude he had shown Andy.

The Apprentice was filled with admiration. ’Here’s a young genius praised by the Taming Center’s own Chief Wizard, yet he doesn’t show a trace of arrogance. A newcomer like him is truly a rare find.’

As these thoughts crossed Rock’s mind, his expression grew even warmer.

"Mo Ning, you probably know I’m looking for an assistant. Do you have anyone you’d recommend?"

Mo Ning froze for a second, instantly realizing the Second Level Apprentice was making a gesture of goodwill.

Normally, when a Tamer requested an assistant, the Witch Spirit would send out a notice to the new apprentices, and those who were interested would submit an application.

The Tamer would then interview the applicants and select the most suitable candidate.

When Mo Ning himself had applied for the position, he had faced more than ten competitors.

His reputation had long since extended far beyond that of a mere newcomer. Even many Third Level Apprentices had heard of him, so he had defeated the other competitors with ease.

The above was the "standard" process.

An "internal referral," however, was part of the "non-standard" process.

Of course, a referral didn’t guarantee the position. The interview was still mandatory and had to be conducted under the observation of the Witch Spirit.

That was a rule of the academy.

But the chances of passing the interview with a referral were obviously many times higher than with a standard application.

From a Tamer’s perspective, choosing an assistant was a form of power. It wasn’t much, but who would willingly hand over what little power they had to someone else?

Rock’s unexpected offer was, without a doubt, a signal of goodwill.

Mo Ning knew full well this was likely an effect of the Suggestion Letter he had submitted.

A sincere smile quickly spread across his face as he deftly flattered the senior apprentice:

"Mr. Rock, you are an excellent and experienced Tamer. I happen to know a diligent newcomer who I’m sure would be thrilled to learn from you."

Rock’s smile widened. "In that case, have her come by tomorrow. I’m desperately shorthanded right now."

The Apprentice found himself increasingly impressed. ’This young man is a rare find. He’s surprisingly capable, and he handles himself with such grace. A newcomer like this is bound to have a limitless future.’

Rock hurried away.

Judging by his demeanor, he had clearly made a special trip just to find Mo Ning.

Mo Ning watched him go, thinking to himself, ’Anya will probably be happy to come over.’

The Noble Lady was currently interning at Magic Potion Plantation No. 102.

The rules at the Magic Potion Plantation were different from those at the Taming Center. They accepted any and all applicants, but you had to complete a one-month internship to stay on.

During a casual chat with their group a few days ago, Anya had complained that the work at the plantation was too strenuous, forcing her to cut back on her time studying Divination.

There was no helping it. If she wanted to stay at the plantation, she had to perform better.

And for a newcomer, "performing better" meant nothing more than working harder, just enough to make the plantation see you as a decent worker.

Not long after, two enormous, mud-caked Iron-Horned War Rhinoceroses returned excitedly to Taming Room No. 7.

Though they couldn’t speak, the two behemoths had fully appreciated the benefits of their earlier deep-tissue massage while they were outside.

Muscles that were normally difficult or seldom exercised had been thoroughly awakened. Their Qi and Blood circulated faster, and even their strength seemed to have increased.

They kept a respectful distance, standing a meter away, and didn’t nuzzle up to him affectionately as they had before, avoiding getting the boy covered in their mud.

Mo Ning watched them with a wide smile, then pointed to a water pipe a dozen or so meters away and issued a command:

"Alright, guys, head over there. I’m going to give you a hot bath."

The Taming Center usually used Witchcraft to clean the War Rhinoceroses, but this time, he planned to introduce a completely different method.

The two War Rhinoceroses let out a few happy grunts and trotted over gleefully.

Their deep-seated trust in Mo Ning made them look forward to this "hot bath" with great anticipation.
