Gacha Harem System

Chapter 270: Three Weapons In One

The attendant smiled at them with her hands clasped. "Is there anything specific you’re looking for today, or would you like recommendations?"

"We’re here for bludgeoning weapons," Melody said. "All three of us."

"Of course." The attendant turned, gesturing for them to follow. "Right this way."

She led them through the floor, moving between the shelves and glass display cases until the section around them shifted noticeably.

The bladed weapons gave way to broader, heavier heads, and the display cases filled with weapons built for impact rather than slashing.

"This is our bludgeoning section," the attendant said, spreading a hand. "We have a full range of warhammers, maces, flails, and combinations of each."

She moved to the nearest case, pointing as she spoke. "Some of these carry added effects."

"This warhammer, for instance, delivers piercing impact even without an edge, allowing it to bypass certain types of armor."

She gestured to another weapon.

"This mace here drains the target’s physical strength with each successful hit, compounding over a sustained fight."

Lukas glanced at the price tags on several of the nearest pieces and almost choked. Were Adept ranked weapons always so expensive?!

He spoke up before she could continue. "We’re looking for strong bludgeoning weapons with nothing added on top. Just something that hits hard and holds up."

The attendant nodded without missing a beat, as if she’d been expecting his words. "Understood. Follow me."

She led them a short distance away to an adjacent section.

The weapons on display were simpler in function but not in appearance.

Without enchanted effects driving up the cost, the craftsmanship itself became more pronounced.

It was as if [Items] without useful effects were trying to make up for the lack by being pleasant to the eyes.

Akira slowed almost immediately.

She stopped in front of a display case and stared.

Inside sat a flail. The handle was made of a smooth, dark metal, long enough for a two handed grip if needed.

From it extended a golden chain, each link catching the light individually, connecting to a spiked ball forged from the same dark metal as the handle.

The contrast between the dark body and the gold chain gave it a look that sat somewhere between elegant and dangerous.

Akira pointed at it. "That one."

The attendant opened the case with an application of mana to a pad on the plinth and lifted it out carefully, setting it on the counter beside them.

"An excellent choice," she said, turning it slightly so they could see the full construction.

"The metal and the chain aren’t standard materials. Our studies showed that both were infused with a compound that makes them significantly more durable than any metal that can be created by human hands. The chain won’t kink or weaken under repeated impact, and the ball won’t chip or deform even against harder surfaces."

Lukas checked the price tag and gave a small nod. It was acceptable.

Barely.

Akira was already holding it, testing the weight with a slow swing at her side, looking completely satisfied.

Melody had moved further along the display while this was happening. She stopped, turned, and pointed.

"This one," she said, her voice carrying a note of elation.

It was a flanged mace, its head ringed with raised metal flanges that came to short, angled edges along each ridge.

"The flanges," Melody said, turning to the others with barely contained excitement. "If we run into human opponents, I can still cut with this. The edges aren’t blades, but they’ll do damage like one if I swing it right. This way, I get the best of both worlds."

Lukas nodded, thinking about it. He liked the idea, and decided to get something like that for himself.

He moved further along the display on his own, taking his time.

He still wanted the blunt force capability the Crystal Caves would require, but he wasn’t willing to give up the ability to cut entirely.

A pure hammer or mace felt like trading one limitation for another, and he didn’t feel like changing weapons in the middle of a fight.

He was nearly at the end of the display when he stopped, his eyes landing on a weapon.

The poleaxe was mounted on a stand slightly apart from the others, its size setting it apart immediately.

The pole was made out of a solid dark metal, long enough to require both hands.

At the top, an axe blade curved out on one side for slashing, a straight spike rose from the very top for thrusting, and on the opposite side of the axe blade sat a solid, flat hammer head.

Lukas stared at it for a moment.

Three functions in a single weapon. And with his Strength stat, the weight wouldn’t even slow him down.

He pointed. "That one."

The attendant stepped forward, drawing a small breath to begin her introduction.

Lukas held up a hand. "Just ring everything up."

The attendant’s face lit up. She moved quickly, tallying up the total for the three weapons with ease.

"Right this way," she said when she was done, leading them to one of the counters along the far wall where a payment terminal sat beside a receipt book.

Lukas stepped up and held his card to the terminal.

The amount was deducted, and a moment later the attendant was lifting each weapon from the counter and presenting them in turn.

Akira took the flail first, wrapping her hand around the handle and giving it a slow experimental swing at her side.

The chain extended, the spiked ball tracing an arc through the air before she drew it back. She tried it again, faster.

Melody lifted the flanged mace, turning it once in her grip before swinging it. She adjusted the angle of her wrist, swung again, then nodded to herself.

Lukas picked up the poleaxe last.

The weight was immediately apparent, but not unmanageable.

He shifted his grip along the pole, finding the balance point, and brought it down in a slow swing.

It felt a bit awkward.

He adjusted his grip and tried again, and this time, it felt natural.

He moved through two more swings, the feel becoming smoother each time, until the weight started to feel less like resistance and more like momentum he could use.

"That’ll do," he said quietly.

The attendant watched them with a pleased expression. "Is there anything else I can help you with today? We have a wide selection of armor, consumables, and utility items in stock if you’re looking to round out your equipment."

Lukas shook his head. "We’re good. Thank you."

"Of course." She stepped around the counter and walked them back to the lift, pressing the call button and standing to the side. "It was a pleasure. Safe climbing to you all."

"Thank you," Melody said.

The doors opened and they stepped in.

The lobby on the ground floor was as busy as when they’d arrived, the crowd flowing between counters and signs without much pause.

They moved through it and out the front doors, the outside air meeting them as they descended the steps towards the parking lot.

Lukas was two steps from the car when he saw something at the edge of his vision.

A flash of red hair.

Before he could stop himself, his head snapped to the left.
