Gacha Harem System

Out of everyone present in the cavern, Melody found herself struggling the most.

Lukas was Lukas, which meant he couldn’t possibly fail. Especially with how many skills he had in his arsenal.

Karrakas had already found a safe space for himself to shoot down beasts from a distance.

As for Akira, she was the most experienced out of the three of them, and she was surely used to situations like this.

Melody knew without a doubt that even if Lukas was brought down, it wouldn’t be easy for the bats to do the same to Akira.

Even Percival looked like he was having fun amidst all of this.

But Melody wasn’t like the rest of them. All she had was her mace and her [Chameleon Bracer].

Every other thing she had seemed useless. Except for [Hex Shield], of course.

Maybe she should’ve been the one with the headband, not Akira.

Her sword wouldn’t be much help here, and she had to touch something to use [Soul Leech] on them.

Her class wasn’t suited for these kinds of battles at all. But that didn’t mean she wasn’t going to fight.

She was currently using her bracer, allowing her to phase in and out of existence as she fought, but it wasn’t working.

The bracer worked exactly as it was intended, allowing her body and clothes to match the changing colors of the crystals around her, but fighting meant she had to keep moving and dodging.

And this made the effect less prominent.

But that wasn’t the problem.

The problem was that even with all these factors put together, the bracer should’ve been way more effective than this.

But somehow, it felt like the bats could see her, no matter what she did. And this made her come to a quick conclusion.

The bats had another way of seeing.

And now that she thought about it, didn’t normal bats use echolocation?

"Oh, fuck me." She cursed under her breath.

She abandoned using the bracer, since it was ultimately useless, and focused on what she could do.

Four [Hex Shields] flickered to life on all four sides of her, with some sustaining attacks and cracking, but still holding up strong.

She could see that some of the bats had killed themselves on her shields, shattering into fragments, but her eyes were on the open space above her head, where several bats were diving down towards her at full speed.

She stretched her hand, creating a [Hex Shield].

The bats that were in the lead rammed into it, shattering from the force of the impact, and she dropped the shield, allowing those behind to continue.

A second later, she created another shield, using their speed to kill off a few more bats.

But not all bats were flying at full speed. For those ones, she had to take care of them herself.

Melody frowned, letting the bats fly closer before sealing the box around her with another shield above, trapping herself with the bats.

She took a step forward, allowing the lead bat, which had been aiming for her head, fly through the space where it had been before and almost hit the floor before stopping just in time.

But that gave Melody enough time to turn around with a swing of her mace and shatter it into fragments.

She followed through on the force of her swing, using the momentum to swing back around and shatter two more bats that had been aiming at her back.

She dropped low, rolling to the side, before leaping to her feet, and with a swing, destroyed three bats.

Her head turned this way and that, looking at the bats bashing against the shields all around her.

Luckily, she’d layered the shields, or the bats would have shattered through it and broken through.

She timed it carefully, dropping the shields for a half second, which was enough time for a few bats to slip through before raising the shields.

The bats came at her from opposing angles, screeching as they attacked.

She was already moving.

The first one dove for her face, and she stepped inside its arc, letting it pass over her shoulder before her mace came around and hit it from behind.

It burst against the flanged head, its fragments spraying across the inside of her shields and raining down around her boots.

The second skimmed the floor as it moved towards her legs and she dropped her weight, activating [Hex Shield].

A small shield flickered into existence for only an instant, and the bat slammed into it, reeling off its surface, stunned.

She didn’t waste any time, crushing it against the floor with a single blow.

The third and fourth bats dove at her together, one attacking from head height, and the other from knee height.

Melody spun, swinging her mace.

The weapon smashed into the one at knee height, the impact ringing up her arm as the beast shattered.

The one at head height shrieked past her ear, banked hard off the inside of her shield box, and came back around for another pass.

She didn’t give it a chance.

She threw a [Hex Shield] directly into its flight path, and the bat slammed into it. Before it could even fall, her mace ended its life.

And so Melody kept fighting, until eventually, she stood in the middle of her box, breathing hard with her mace hanging from her grip.

She turned in a slow circle, taking in the sight around the cavern.

There were no bats left, so she dropped her shields.

The shields dissolved into wisps around her, and she brought her sun ball closer.

The floor of the cavern glittered from end to end, with heaps of shattered crystal piled where Lukas had held his ground, and scattered in a long line along the path Akira had walked.

Karrakas stepped out from behind his column, his bow still half-raised, and an arrow still on the string.

Lukas turned towards them, just in time to see the golden headband disappear from Akira’s forehead.

For a few seconds, none of them spoke a word.

And yet, without any signal or a glance exchanged, all four of them found their gazes pulled to the same place.

To the side of the rubble, where Percival stood.

The floor around him was completely clean, with no fragments or fallen bats.

The man in question was straightening up now, rolling his shoulders like he’d just finished a pleasant stretch, his long blond hair swaying with the motion.

The joy was still on his face, dimming slowly into something more like satisfaction.

He noticed all four of them staring at him with their weapons still in hand.

Then he blinked, glancing around at the carnage as if he was seeing it for the first time, and then smiled.

"Well fought, everyone," he said brightly. "Wasn’t that fun?"
