Mia swiftly closed the tent, and without the cold night wind, our breath gradually raised the temperature inside.
She stood still in complete silence for an agonizing second before crawling toward me, staring me down as she watched my every reaction.
Her steps were slow and deliberate. Centimeter after centimeter, as our distance shrank, her excitement grew, and her lips curled into an increasingly dangerous smile.
Once she was just within reach, I hesitantly extended my hand and stroked under her chin. Though she briefly purred and closed her eyes, they snapped open almost immediately after.
In one quick, decisive move, she turned around and grabbed my wrist. As her weight rested on my lap, she pushed her back against me until I felt the tent walls behind me.
Seemingly satisfied, she slowly pulled both of my arms down, holding them over her stomach.
Our rustling drowned the crackling of the campfire outside until she found a comfortable position between my thighs, and an innocent, satisfied sigh broke the silence before it even had the chance to settle.
The fabric of her nurse outfit was chilly to the touch. I naturally searched for the heat of her warm skin, pressing my arms against hers while we intertwined the fingers of our hands.
A quiet second passed without words between us.
It was oddly peaceful.
Mia: "Why did you use Lily as bait, Miwen? Those two could’ve hurt her."
I had underestimated Kiki and Fenya, as well as all other Champions.
Everyone who had made it to the second phase of the Divine Event stood over the corpses of ten thousand to do so.
Miwen: "I was getting impatient."
Under the dim light of a small lamp, it was hard to see Mia’s expression.
I had to let her heartbeat guide me, and after my response, I felt it beat faster.
Mia: "You’re never impatient, Miwen..."
She sounded exasperated, almost disappointed.
Her fingers gripped tighter, and she hung her head even lower, hiding her pale cheeks behind her white hair.
Mia: "I couldn’t ask you before, but... Did something happen? You seem a little strange..."
It was rare for her to sound so unsure.
Miwen: "I was about to ask you the same..."
As I rested my head on her shoulder, our cheeks pressed together.
Her warmth was hard to resist, and I pulled her even more toward me. Her sweet scent was almost alcoholic. It drowned me in a haze, and despite my better judgment, I searched for more.
Mia: "If you’re talking about those two... It’s because I’m worried about you."
She briefly spread my arms away from her to lift her bangs.
As she turned to face me, her green eyes seemed to shine brighter than the lamp’s low light, which only rimmed her silhouette in a faint, orangish glow.
Mia: "These past few weeks, you’ve only been doing missions non-stop with your aunt, and you always bring Cassandra with you."
The calmness behind her voice did not soften its firmness.
Miwen: "Hmm? Are you jealous?"
In this position, she’d normally punish my teasing by hitting me with her elbow or headbutting my chin.
This time, she only shook her head.
Mia: "I have nothing against Cassandra. I know she’s convenient for you as both sword and woman, but..."
She avoided my gaze, and her heartbeat accelerated.
After a pause to seemingly collect her thoughts, she stared at me with more determination than before.
Mia: "Miwen... Why are you avoiding the girls at the clinic?"
I flashed a nervous smile, and like a true hunter, she cut off my escape.
Before I could even think of avoiding her eyes, she was already holding my cheek. While she caressed me gently, I knew she wouldn’t let me face away.
Miwen: "...I’m visiting every day, though. Well, right now I can’t, but-"
She pinched my cheek, her nails scratching the skin.
Mia: "I know. I can feel your scent no matter where you are in the Kingdom. I know the cadence of your steps, and how light they are when you try to sneak around. I can even hear your voice when you murmur into their ears!"
My cheeks burned red, but even then, she didn’t let them go and pinched harder.
Even though she was my wife, hearing that confession sent shivers down my spine.
Mia: "Why...? Why are you only visiting after everyone’s already asleep?"
Her hands slowly slid down, and once she had reached my chest, they clenched into fists, lightly bumping against my heart.
Miwen: "I told you to rest properly."
My voice came out stern.
She didn’t flinch.
Mia: "I’m not the only one who knows. Licia pretends to be asleep and waits for you."
I had a suspicion about that being the case.
She might not be a beastwoman, but her instincts were as sharp.
Mia: "I get it. You’re hurt. I’ve been there..."
Her fists continued to bump into me, gradually hitting higher, until they reached my shoulder.
My injured shoulder.
I braced myself for a sharp pain, only for the soothing, calm massage of her palm to hit me.
Mia: "But you don’t have to hurt alone. Don’t punish yourself, Miwen. Don’t hurt yourself. Please..."
The air was getting thicker. Hotter.
It was uncomfortable.
She was too close.
But Mia...
I didn’t hate it.
Yet, I needed to breathe.
Miwen: "I’m not hurting myself on purpose. The only reason I didn’t call you earlier was that you’re the only one I trust to protect the girls if a [Kingdom Anomaly] happens."
Elizabeth and the Valkyries were also an option, but...
The Demon Queen would cause too many fireworks to go off, and she’d probably be a little too interested in the wolf I met during the afternoon.
Meanwhile, Cassandra had stayed up the entire night toying with me, and I didn’t want to reveal all of my cards with the Valkyries.
Mia: "...Why don’t you rely on me? Do you think I’m that weak, or... Are you afraid I’ll also get hurt?"
A soft chuckle escaped me.
One that, even though I didn’t intend to, lied about my feelings.
Mia was growing strong, and not even in the way she used to before.
I couldn’t imagine her past self cornering me this much without pinning me down and wrecking me first.
Miwen: "Didn’t I rely on you a lot today?"
Though her ears twitched as I took off her hat and patted her head, Mia did not agree, and despite her breath remaining steady, her body tensed.
She closed her legs and lowered her fist together with her gaze.
Mia: "You know what I’m talking about, Miwen..."
Her voice had never been so low.
It was almost as if I wasn’t meant to hear, or if she didn’t mean to speak.
Mia: "Before being husband and wife..."
She carefully closed my hand into a fist and then bumped against its back.
Mia: "We are partners."
The tension seemed to leave her body, and she slouched, leaning against me.
After this, she knew I couldn’t win anymore.
I couldn’t fight back.
Miwen: "...You’re right."
A resigned whisper escaped me, but her ears picked up on it.
Her tail rose slightly, brushing against me. Its fluffiness and warmth were only matched by Mia’s excited face.
Miwen: "I’ll apologize to Lily tomorrow; I shouldn’t have used her for this."
I caught a glimpse of her cheeks moving, and while I couldn’t confirm it, I knew the exact shape of the smile she wore.
While giving her neck light kisses, I slid a hand inside her uniform. The heat of her skin was cozy, and it felt like no matter how long I touched her, she’d only grow hotter.
Mia: "Wait...!"
She caught my hand before I could fully lower her shorts past her waist.
Miwen: "We can’t?"
Even though I intended to retreat both hands toward her chest, only one made the journey inside her shirt.
The wet, hot mess in her crotch felt too good to resist.
Just touching her thighs and rubbing her panties was enough to get my blood pumping.
Mia: "We can, but..."
She lifted her chin until her neck arched back.
If before I couldn’t see her expression well, now it was all I could see.
Mia: "You still haven’t told me what happened. There’s something different about you..."
The thin, glossy lips on her open mouth were inviting me, and I slowly leaned toward them.
Despite having stopped my hand down there, Mia pulled me in for a kiss.
Miwen: "...That’s not very beast-like."
Even though my sanity was slipping and I was confident hers was too, she broke our kiss.
The hand that had been pulling on the back of my head now gently caressed my cheek.
Mia: "It’s alright if you don’t want to tell me. But I know you’re not doing well."
Everything stopped for a moment.
Our bodies were still rubbing against each other, almost as if by instinct, but...
Without me noticing, the silence spoke louder than I could, and once it got its word in, I couldn’t deny it.
Mia: "I’m not a good nurse, but tonight, won’t you let me heal you?"
She brought my hand out of her shorts and inside her shirt, letting me fondle her breasts.
As she stifled her moans, Mia shifted a little, spreading the heat of her hips against my crotch.
Miwen: "...Why is it that you girls always try to comfort me through sex? Aren’t you just naughty?"
The volume of our words was so low that her laugh drowned them, even though it was still muffled and soft.
Mia: "It’s because if we don’t hold you tight, you’ll slip away. You never ask when you need, and you never share your burdens when we don’t probe. It’s annoying."
Funny that I could say the same about her.
Though that was probably why she understood it so well.
Miwen: "Pft. Alright, Mia. I’ll tell you what happened, but... There’s a lot I’m not sure about."
I lay down with her and began recounting everything that happened in the Divine Event so far.
Rain sizzled outside, at first falling slowly, then almost forcefully.
Fenya and Kiki argued about the rain being black. I could hear Kiki accusing Fenya of being an idiot for not knowing why the droplets were black, while Fenya accused her of being a coward for not opening the tent to warn Mia and me.
However, as much noise as they were making, my attention was fully on Mia.
As was hers on me.
While we hugged, I confessed to her the things I felt, as well as my biggest concern...
Miwen: "When I was inside that white void, I felt like I was just one step away from remembering something that... That I didn’t want to know."
She nodded softly, waiting for me to continue.
Miwen: "I haven’t changed much from the past. But my dreams have shifted a little. They were never big to begin with..."
Maybe because we shared our heat, the hot air had grown comfortable.
Miwen: "I wanted to be like my parents, and when I realized that was impossible, I wanted to live for my sister."
Mia wrapped her legs around me, pulling me with even more strength as she curled under my arms.
Her hands behind my back moved at a snail’s pace, sliding down in rhythm with my breathing.
Miwen: "Sis is still important to me. But now, I have you girls. And frankly... If Erik hadn’t hurt you. Or if I could get my family out of this mess, then... I’d probably have set sail to that new continent already."
A soft smile escaped me, and Mia answered with one of her own.
Time seemed to have stopped in that moment as I searched for my words.
Miwen: "I can tell that I’ve done something. Knowing myself, it was probably a bet. Or a deal. Something that I could use to play everyone else, whoever it is I played against."
But that was the problem.
Miwen: "It’s just... I don’t know when I did it. And I’m afraid that... The one who did it might not have the same priorities I have now."
I knew that if I visited the white void again, I might get the answers I’m looking for.
When I was there, things quickly started making sense, as if they were meant to be.
I even felt like if I thought about it for long enough, I’d reveal the question, and a part of me seemed to know the answer already.
However, I could tell that... I didn’t want to know.
At least, not yet.
Mia: "...Can you still return to that place?"
Her voice was lower than the sounds of rain outside, yet she wasn’t meek and stared into my eyes with the same energy as when we started talking.
Miwen: "I think so, yeah."
All I’d have to do is try to remember.
This time would probably be even easier.
Miwen: "But I don’t want to. At least not right now."
I lowered my head, letting it rest against her chest.
Mia started stroking my hair, almost as if to say it was going to be alright.
Mia: "That’s fine. We’ll figure it out when we figure it out."
She leaned into my ear, her breath warming me as she whispered.
Mia: "For now, can you promise me to let me take care of you? I’m not going to do the things Cassandra does, but... Whether it’s sex or battle, let me be with you."
Click after click echoed inside the tent as she unbuttoned her shirt.
Mia turned her back to me, and still pressing her body against mine, she lowered my pants.
Miwen: "I thought you preferred seeing my face?"
I rested my head against hers, cheek to cheek.
Meanwhile, I felt the warmth of her butt directly as she guided my penis inside her.
Mia: "You’re already hurt enough, and I don’t think I can control myself. So... Let’s do it slow tonight. I’ll keep you company for as long as you want."
Even though I had molded her to my shape, I still had to dig against her walls whenever we did it.
Tonight was different.
The pressure inside her pulled me in.
Not like a vacuum, but as a hug.
A tight, and yet lazy hug.
Miwen: "...Are you sure it’s not because of the lenses of Divination?"
I had told her about how the Gods were watching us during this Divine Event, and that there were quite a few spectators in the audience as well.
Mia: "Nhn...! Shut up...! I just felt like you need some lovey-dovey sex after so much time with Cassandra."
Her cheeks flushed a warm, burning red.
It was impossible to resist rubbing mine against hers.
Miwen: "You know what, miss nurse? I think a palate cleanser is exactly what I need."
I pulled a blanket over us, fully covering her body.
That night, I went to sleep to the disastrous yet sweet symphony of my penis sloching inside her and the moans that escaped her mouth.
Even when I woke up, I felt the comfortable sensation of being enveloped by her wet little hole, as well as the confusion of why Fenya and Kiki were also naked with us under the blankets.
??????: "...Hi?"
The jaguar girls left the tent open, and on the other side, I found a familiar silhouette.
But before I could even process it, the three girls already stood before me, hissing at our guest.
