Chapter 157: Chapter 157: Arrival

Long Ming felt a bit helpless hearing this and lowered his voice to ask Chen Wei.

"Chen Wei, what about you?"

"Me?"

"Yeah, are you and Lin Xiaozhao doing okay?"

"We’re fine. We’re both from the lower district, and Lin Xiaozhao’s family isn’t very well off. I just need to help her out from time to time."

Chen Wei said with a hint of relief.

"That’s good."

Long Ming nodded at Chen Wei’s words. ’If things blew up on his end too, then there’d be no point in continuing this dungeon run.’

Just then, Gu Yi pleaded with Tao Sisi.

"Please, don’t. My friends are right here."

Hearing Gu Yi’s plea, Tao Sisi fought to control her emotions and said no more. With red-rimmed eyes, she walked to the side and squatted down.

Seeing Tao Sisi squatting there alone, Gu Yi dejectedly walked to the stern of the boat and sat down.

Seeing this, Gu Yi and Lin Xiaozhao both walked over to Tao Sisi’s side and softly tried to calm her down.

Long Ming stood up as well, walked over to Gu Yi, and patted his shoulder.

"Don’t lose heart. Things will get better!"

"Thanks,"

Gu Yi replied dejectedly.

Long Ming held out his hand to Gu Yi and said calmly.

"Let me see the map."

"Okay."

Gu Yi quickly handed the map to Long Ming.

Long Ming took the map and walked to the bow. He studied it carefully, then looked up at the sun and felt the sea breeze.

Seeing this, Chen Wei hurried over and asked.

"Brother Long, how does it look?"

After a moment of thought, Long Ming said.

"We must be off course. We’re heading in the wrong direction!"

"Huh? You can’t be serious."

Chen Wei was dumbfounded.

"Help me adjust the boat’s direction. And turn off the propulsion unit—we need to save fuel for when it really counts. We’ll try rowing with the oars. After all, we don’t know how far off course we are."

Long Ming calmly gave his instructions to Chen Wei.

"Okay!"

Chen Wei immediately did as Long Ming said, running to the stern to turn off the propulsion unit.

Then, Long Ming and Chen Wei picked up the oars and began to row.

「On the morning of the third day.」

Gazing out at the boundless sea, Gu Yi nervously asked Long Ming.

"Brother, how much longer until we can see the island?"

’He was terrified the map was fake. If it was, they were really and truly screwed.’

"Calm down, I’m looking."

Long Ming kept checking the map on his wristband.

’In his opinion, Gu Yi was far too quick to trust people. He’d spent so much money organizing this whole venture without even confirming if the intel was legit.’

’After all, for the six of them, not even counting their starting gear, the cost of the game pods and invitation tickets alone was at least seventy or eighty thousand Mountain Coins. That was equivalent to a full year’s base salary for people like Cloud Fish.’

’And to top it off, he had chosen a naval dungeon, the one type Long Ming was worst at.’

’This type of dungeon offered high rewards, but you needed to bring specialists to even attempt it.’

Just then, he saw an extraction point marker appear on the unlit portion of his wristband’s map. He immediately said to Gu Yi.

"I’ve spotted the extraction point. There has to be an island nearby. This map seems to be legit after all."

"Really!?"

Hearing Long Ming’s words, Gu Yi let out a huge sigh of relief.

The tension on the faces of Tao Sisi and the others also eased considerably.

"Start the propulsion unit. We need to speed up,"

Long Ming said to Gu Yi and the others.

"Okay!"

Gu Yi and Chen Wei quickly started the propulsion unit.

A little over an hour later, the silhouette of an island appeared on the distant horizon.

"Quick, look! It’s an island!"

Chen Wei shouted excitedly.

"We finally found it! Haha!"

Gu Yi was overjoyed.

Long Ming watched the island draw nearer, a knot of uncertainty tightening in his gut, but he said nothing.

A short while later, Long Ming’s group steered the small fishing boat toward the island.

The entire island was only a dozen or so square kilometers, and dozens of boats of different types were moored along its shore.

"That’s strange. Why are there so many boats docked here?"

Lin Xiaozhao paused, her voice tinged with worry.

Hearing Lin Xiaozhao, Tao Sisi’s face darkened as she shot a look at Gu Yi.

Gu Yi’s heart skipped a beat, and he quickly explained.

"These boats were probably here from the start. This place used to be a prison, after all. The people here would have needed to get on and off the island."

"Gu Yi is right,"

Chen Wei chimed in, agreeing.

Hearing this, Tao Sisi’s expression finally softened.

"Let’s get on the island and take a look!"

Although Long Ming didn’t say anything,

he also had a bad feeling. ’But there’s no point in saying anything now,’ he thought. ’We’ll know once we get up there and search.’

"Right, let’s go ashore and search!"

Gu Yi agreed.

Long Ming and the others disembarked and set foot on the prison island without any trouble.

The entire island was eerily quiet. There were no seabirds in sight. There was little vegetation, just exposed rock everywhere.

Following the map, Long Ming led Gu Yi and the others inland.

Soon, they reached the center of the island. There, they saw a prison building constructed from reinforced concrete, its exterior resembling a fortress.

A barbed-wire fence surrounded the prison, and from it hung numerous shriveled corpses.

"We found it!"

Seeing the massive prison before him, Gu Yi shouted excitedly. His heart, which had plummeted to rock bottom, soared once more.

Long Ming looked at the massive prison and gave a slight nod.

’If this prison hasn’t been looted, then Gu Yi and the others might actually be about to hit the jackpot.’

"Quick, let’s go,"

Chen Wei said excitedly to Gu Yi.

"Let’s go!"

Gripping his submachine gun, Gu Yi eagerly rushed toward the prison’s main gate.

Long Ming immediately followed.

They soon reached the main entrance of the prison, only to find the gates wide open.

"Brother, the gates are open,"

Gu Yi pointed out uneasily.

"It being open is totally normal. When the apocalypse hit, of course the people inside would’ve tried to run out."

Gu Yi argued, forcing himself to sound calm.

"Enough talk. We’re going in to search. You all stay behind me!"

Long Ming raised his Black Shadow automatic rifle and walked toward the prison gate.

"Okay!"

Gu Yi and the others immediately followed him.

Long Ming led them through the prison gates and into a dim hall. The place was a complete wreck. Broken equipment was scattered everywhere, the walls were riddled with bullet holes, and the floor was covered in blackened bloodstains.

The murky air was thick with the foul stench of blood.

Tao Sisi, Lin Xiaozhao, and Gu Yi grew tense, their eyes filled with anxiety.

Long Ming led them deeper inside, into a long corridor.

The corridor was dimly lit. The main lights were out, with only a few emergency lights still glowing.

They soon found a guard room.

The door to this room was open. Long Ming glanced inside; the place had been completely ransacked. He then said,

"It’s been searched."

"No way... Maybe it was always like this?"

Gu Yi asked Long Ming with a pained expression, still clinging to a sliver of hope.
