Chapter 169: Chapter 169: Lifted
Long Ming subconsciously clicked it, and a video immediately started playing automatically.
The checkpoint at the Mountain City Mountain blockade opened.
Streams of Lynx main battle tanks, heavy armored vehicles, and transport trucks packed with soldiers drove out in a massive procession.
Squadrons of armed helicopters followed in the sky. The scale of the operation was enormous.
Below the post, comments were refreshing one after another.
"Whoa, they’re rolling out the heavy armor!"
"So cool!"
"The main forces from Mountain City Mountain have been deployed! When can we go out and explore? I can’t wait!"
"Are you an idiot? Can’t wait to go out and get yourself killed? Mountain City Mountain is keeping you in for your own protection. You have no idea what it’s like out there, and you still want to go?"
"Exactly. You really think you’re the Chosen One or something?"
...
Long Ming pondered for a moment. ’Mountain City Mountain’s main forces have moved out. They must be preparing to start exploring this world.’
However, Mountain City Mountain was still under lockdown and hadn’t officially opened up yet.
Of course, in a way, this policy was a form of protection. After all, the probability of a solo explorer getting killed by rushing out was far too high.
Thinking this, Long Ming rationally suppressed his restlessness, turned off his computer, and walked toward his bed.
「Three days later.」
Long Ming was eating in his living room when his phone suddenly vibrated.
A series of messages popped up.
"Latest Announcement: Starting from 12:00 PM today, Mountain City Mountain will be easing its lockdown. All citizens with a wristband are free to enter and exit Mountain City Mountain to explore the outside world."
"Exploration Notice 1: Mountain City Mountain, Sin Abyss City, and Star Tower City have reached a temporary non-aggression agreement. All explorers are urged to stay away from personnel from the other two cities to avoid unnecessary conflict."
"Exploration Notice 2: All outbound explorers may only explore in the northern direction."
...
After reading these messages, Long Ming immediately got up and went back to his bedroom.
He turned on his computer, logged into the Civilization Paradise forums, and checked the posts about Mountain City Mountain.
Team recruitment posts were popping up like mushrooms after a spring rain.
"High-level player with a 6.3 KDI, sincerely recruiting fully-equipped team members to explore the unknown world together."
"Pioneer squad recruiting! We have nine people already, just need one more and we’re ready to go."
...
Long Ming looked at these recruitment posts. Although he had no desire to team up with them, his heart was stirring with the urge to go out and explore.
However, he didn’t make a rash decision. Instead, he checked the public intelligence posts on the forum.
Soon, he came across a warning post by the Pilates Streamer.
"Mountain City Mountain will officially end its lockdown at 12:00 PM today, allowing all solo explorers to venture out. While this is good news, it’s also fraught with danger! I know many of you are eager to get out there and show what you’re made of."
"I want to remind everyone here: this is different from running dungeons to explore worlds in the past. If you die, you’re really dead. Not every teammate will save you. Human nature can’t always be trusted, so when you’re forming a team, you must choose your teammates carefully!"
"Also, remember this: out there, no matter who you are, if you run into people from the other two major cities, stay as far away from them as possible. Don’t assume that just because the three cities have an agreement, they won’t attack you. The cities can’t even control their own people. When you die in the wild, no one will know who did it."
...
"Finally, a gift for all of you: a map of the three cities’ regions! Good luck!"
Long Ming scrolled down with his mouse and saw the regional map shared by the Pilates Streamer.
On it, Mountain City Mountain, Sin Abyss City, and Star Tower City were arranged in a triangle. Numerous smaller Sanctuary Cities were scattered around them.
The map also clearly marked the marching routes of the three major cities. Star Tower City had chosen the west, and Sin Abyss City had chosen the east.
In the space between the three cities, the potential lines of intersection where they might meet were thoughtfully drawn.
Long Ming looked at the map and silently praised, ’This Pilates Streamer really knows their stuff. This information is excellent.’
But now Long Ming was in a bit of a bind.
Should he go out and explore, or should he wait for the situation to become clearer?
As Long Ming was thinking, he suddenly saw his phone screen light up. It looked like Xiaoqi had posted an announcement in the Rat Group chat.
He picked up his phone and opened the group chat to take a look.
"All official members, assemble at Flower Garden Plaza in the Upper City District at 2:00 PM. No one is to be late!"
Seeing this, Long Ming became thoughtful.
...
「1:45 PM!」
Flower Garden Plaza, Upper City District, Mountain City Mountain.
Military transport trucks were parked across the vast plaza, with soldiers loading them with various types of ammunition and supplies.
These soldiers doing the loading were all members of the Star Wish Guild’s Fifth Rat Group, though they were now all in standard military uniforms.
Xiaoqi, dressed in a green officer’s uniform with her hair tied up, crisply urged everyone on.
"Hurry up! We leave at 2:00 PM sharp."
"Yes, ma’am!"
Johnny and the others replied in unison.
After giving her orders, Xiaoqi’s gaze inadvertently fell upon Long Ming as he walked over, carrying a tactical backpack with a Black Shadow rifle slung over his right shoulder.
"Long Ming?"
A look of disbelief appeared on Xiaoqi’s face. She almost thought her eyes were deceiving her.
"What, not happy to see me?"
Long Ming walked up to Xiaoqi and teased her with a smile.
"Of course not."
Xiaoqi replied, overjoyed.
"Is that so? Then how come I didn’t get the notice?"
Long Ming couldn’t help but joke.
"I heard you weren’t feeling well, so I didn’t dare call you."
Xiaoqi explained to Long Ming, embarrassed.
"I see. So, where are you all headed?"
"We’ve been conscripted by the Third Legion. We have to escort supplies to the front lines—to Ocardo Sanctuary City."
"Oh. In that case, can I hitch a ride with you?"
Long Ming asked with a smile.
Ocardo Sanctuary City was located in the northernmost region of Mountain City Mountain. Beyond this Sanctuary City, the terrain was completely and utterly transformed.
As a result, Ocardo Sanctuary City had become a transit hub for exploration.
He planned to catch a ride with Xiaoqi to Ocardo Sanctuary City to check things out. The journey would be much safer that way.
"Of course, no problem! Wait here a second!"
Xiaoqi said to Long Ming readily.
"Alright."
Although Long Ming didn’t know what Xiaoqi was up to, he waited where he was.
Xiaoqi soon came running back. She handed a military uniform to Long Ming and said.
"This uniform is for you. Go change into it in the public restroom over there."
"This is for me?"
"That’s right."
"Alright."
Long Ming took the uniform and walked toward the public restroom.
「Several minutes later.」
Long Ming came out after changing into the uniform. Xiaoqi’s eyes lit up when she saw him, and she couldn’t help but praise him.
"Long Ming, you look even more handsome after changing."
"You think so?"
Long Ming replied with a smile.
