Chapter 205: Chapter 205: Onward

Outside the Aniskan Royal City.

On a towering mountain peak, a man in Gen-2 dark red heavy exoskeletal armor and a man in black light exoskeletal armor stood side-by-side, gazing at the distant, magnificent ruins of the Aniskan Royal City.

"Honestly, if it weren’t for our common goals, I really wouldn’t want to be working with you."

The man in the light exoskeletal armor said, his face grim.

"Haha, what makes you think I’m enjoying this?"

"But what we’re doing... it’s playing with fire. Who knows how many people will die because of it."

"Hmph. You think people won’t die if we *don’t* play with fire? You think not playing with fire guarantees a win? Don’t be naive. History is written by the victors. As long as we succeed, any price is worth it. But if you fail, you’ll be spat on by the world."

The man in the heavy exoskeletal armor scoffed.

"Looks like you’re dragging me down with you on this one."

"No, no, no. I’m pulling you up, not dragging you down."

"Hmph."

...

---------------------------------------------------

The outskirts of Kargil City.

Long Ming rode his dirt bike down the highway toward the city. The road was filled with all sorts of vehicles, and many drifters like himself were swarming toward Kargil City.

The four legions of Mountain City Mountain had recently launched a lightning offensive, breaking into the Aniska Empire and driving straight for the Royal City.

Now, Kargil City was the largest city of ruins in the rear of the front lines.

Mountain City Mountain had set up its forward command post here, and the city was also open to all drifters.

Over an hour later.

Long Ming rode his dirt bike into Kargil City. The streets were teeming with drifters. Some were scavenging buildings, while others had set up roadside stalls. The place was surprisingly bustling.

"See? I told you we could pick up the scraps by following the Mountain City Mountain Military Department."

"Haha, I didn’t expect the Military Department to be so generous, though. They take the meat and leave us the broth."

"One more good haul and we can go home."

"Don’t be so shortsighted! We haven’t even gotten to the best part yet!"

"What’s the best part?"

"I heard Mountain City Mountain is about to launch the final assault. When they do, even the crumbs that fall from their table will be enough to make us rich!"

"Makes sense!"

...

Hearing the conversation from the passersby, Long Ming stopped his dirt bike.

He had expected Mountain City Mountain to advance quickly, but not *this* quickly.

’Looks like I need to find Luoxue. Following the main army is the only way I’ll get a chance to enter the Aniskan Royal City.’

At this thought, Long Ming looked around, hoping to ask someone where the Third Legion was camped.

He walked over to a man running a roadside stall and asked politely.

"Excuse me, friend. Do you know where the Third Legion is stationed?"

"Are you crazy? Who dares to ask about stuff like that? You’ll get arrested as a spy."

The stall keeper looked at Long Ming as if he were an idiot.

"Alright."

Long Ming sighed, resigned, and started to put the 100 Mountain Coins he was holding back into his pocket.

The man saw the coins, snatched them away, and said with a smile.

"But if you really want to know, there’s a Military Department service point up ahead. You can ask there."

"Thanks."

After thanking the man, Long Ming hurried toward the service point.

He soon arrived at the service point, which turned out to be a relatively well-preserved building with many people coming and going.

Just then, Long Ming saw Qian Luobing walk out from inside.

He was startled and was just about to turn and leave, but he realized Qian Luobing had already seen him.

Long Ming sighed internally. He had no choice but to brace himself, walk forward, and snap to attention with a salute.

"Commander."

Luoxue looked at Long Ming, her expression shifting slightly as she spoke.

"Long Ming, since when are you so polite?"

"You’re Luoxue?"

Long Ming stared at Luoxue, completely baffled.

"What’s wrong?"

Luoxue replied nonchalantly.

"Commander, are you messing with me?"

Long Ming looked Luoxue up and down.

He felt that their looks, expressions, and even the scent of their perfume were identical. For a moment, he wondered if they were twins, or if she was just playing a trick on him.

Just then, a series of happy, surprised voices called out.

"Long Ming!"

...

Long Ming turned to see Jing Chuan, Zhihan, Mira, and the others approaching.

"Everyone’s here."

Seeing Jing Chuan and the others, Long Ming breathed a sigh of relief. ’So it really is Luoxue.’

"Long Ming, did you run into someone?"

Luoxue, keenly sensing something was amiss, asked him.

"Well, I ran into someone on the road a little while ago who’s your spitting image. I even thought it was you."

Long Ming replied, embarrassed.

Jing Chuan and the others froze for a second when they heard this, then spoke up.

"Holy shit, you didn’t run into Qian Luobing, did you?"

"Qian Luobing?"

Long Ming feigned a confused expression.

"That’s Luoxue’s older sister. Let me tell you, she’s a total menace! Back when I served under her, it was a complete nightmare. Later, I finally managed to get transferred to the Fifth Battle Group. When I first met Luoxue, I thought I’d fallen into the same trap all over again."

Jing Chuan said, still shaken by the memory.

"Let me tell you, that Qian Luobing is unbelievably arrogant and harsh, just because she’s powerful..."

Zhihan and the others chimed in with their own complaints.

"Alright, that’s enough."

Just then, Luoxue cut them off.

"Not saying another word."

Seeing that Luoxue had spoken, Jing Chuan and the others shut their mouths.

Luoxue turned to Long Ming and asked.

"Long Ming, what are you doing here all of a sudden? I thought you said you weren’t coming."

"I had a change of heart, of course. I decided to come join up with you guys. That’s the only way to get a real piece of the action!"

Long Ming told Luoxue with a grin.

"Yeah, right. You were just worried your cut of the profits would disappear, so you came chasing after us, didn’t you?"

"What? Of course not. It’s not like I don’t trust you."

"Alright, I’ll choose to believe you... for now. Let’s head back to camp!"

Luoxue said to Long Ming, clearly in a good mood.

"Great!"

Long Ming followed Luoxue and the others towards the camp.

...

Not long after.

Long Ming and the others arrived at the central city square. The entire area was cordoned off and heavily guarded.

"This is our temporary camp. But be on your best behavior. We’re not the only ones here—the top brass from all four legions are stationed in this camp."

Luoxue gave Long Ming a simple warning.

"Understood."

Long Ming nodded.

As they entered the camp, they ran head-on into Fu Fuqing.

"Long Ming, what are you doing here?"

Fu Fuqing was about to say something to Luoxue, but when he saw Long Ming, his brow furrowed as he asked the question.

"He came to help. Is there a problem?"

Luoxue answered for him, her tone detached.

"We just got a notice. We’re being called to a strategy meeting!"

Fu Fuqing explained in a grave voice.

"Let’s go!"

Hearing this, Luoxue led Long Ming and the others away.
