Chapter 277: Engaging the Enemy

Chapter 277: Chapter 277: Engaging the Enemy

Hearing this, Qiansha picked up his communicator and issued a warning to everyone.

"We are about to make a detour into the Aniska Empire. From this moment on, everyone is to maintain high alert. Be prepared for anything."

"Understood!"

A chorus of acknowledgments rang out.

The pilot, Ambot, began maneuvering the transport, turning it toward the Aniska Empire.

The entire formation followed suit, changing its flight direction.

Before long, Qiansha saw the border of the Aniska Empire.

Qiansha’s expression grew increasingly grave, and his heart was in his throat. They were getting closer to their destination, but he feared something would go wrong now more than ever.

Time ticked by, and an absolute silence fell over the cockpit.

Suddenly, numerous small red dots appeared on the transport’s radar.

"This is bad. The scanner’s picking up a large number of flying Blood Breath Beasts in the area ahead."

Ambot’s heart lurched as he replied.

"Adjust our course and avoid them, now! Whatever you do, don’t alert those Blood Breath Beasts!"

Qiansha ordered Ambot immediately.

"Yes, sir. All flight formations, adjusting course..."

As he spoke, Ambot worked the controls, adjusting their course to avoid the red dots.

The entire formation began its detour.

Ambot stared nervously at the red dots on the radar. Fortunately, they weren’t moving toward the fleet.

He breathed a sigh of relief and reported to Qiansha.

"Lord Qiansha, it looks like we’ve successfully avoided them."

"Well done."

Qiansha said in a grave voice.

But in the next second, a large red dot suddenly appeared on the radar, closing in on them at high speed. Along with it, all the smaller red dots began to move as well.

"Trouble, Lord Qiansha! Radar’s picked up a large, flying Blood Breath Beast! It’s spotted us and is approaching at high speed!"

Ambot reported, his face suddenly paling.

"Damn it! How did that thing find us? Order Captain Xie Yin to prepare for engagement. Notify all transport formations to prepare for a breakout!"

Qiansha cursed furiously.

"Yes, sir!"

Ambot replied immediately.

Inside the Goliath Transport.

A piercing alarm blared, followed by a continuous warning broadcast.

"Attention all personnel. We are being pursued by a large, flying Blood Breath Beast. Entering combat state."

"Shit, talk about Murphy’s Law."

The color drained from Jing Chuan’s face.

For a moment, Long Ming was at a loss for words.

In the sky.

Piloting his Nightingale fighter, Captain Xie Yin watched the large red dot grow ever closer and issued an order to his comrades.

"Squads 1 through 3, engage with me! Squad 4, stay and guard the transports!"

"Roger!"

A chorus of acknowledgments rang out.

Fifteen Nightingale fighters accelerated, then pulled up and banked, bravely flying to intercept.

Soon, high in the sky, they saw a behemoth rise from the clouds. It was none other than the Lord Level Blood Breath Beast, Argoslo.

The red, fleshy tumors on Argoslo’s massive body began to glow faintly, and it radiated a crimson aura that created an intensely oppressive presence.

Captain Xie Yin stared at the terrifying Argoslo. He was instinctively frightened—the hairs on his arms stood on end—but he neither retreated nor surrendered. Instead, he spoke.

"Alright, ladies and gentlemen, take it down!"

"Yes, sir!"

Everyone replied in unison.

Captain Xie Yin acquired a target lock on Argoslo from extreme range and pressed the launch button.

Two air-to-air missiles shot toward it at incredible speed.

The other fighters followed suit, launching their own missiles.

SWOOSH!

A volley of air-to-air missiles raced toward Argoslo.

Argoslo moved swiftly to evade.

Even so, several missiles struck Argoslo from the side.

BOOM!

A massive explosion erupted.

The blasts tore holes in Argoslo’s massive body, but none were fatal, and the wounds began to heal with incredible speed.

"ROAR!"

Argoslo let out an enraged roar, its speed surging as it charged toward Xie Yin and the other fighters.

"Scatter!"

Xie Yin yanked his control stick, pushing his jet into a steep climb.

The other fighters scattered, banking hard to either side.

Unfortunately, Argoslo was too fast. One fighter failed to evade in time and crashed directly into its massive body.

BOOM!

A massive explosion erupted.

"Damn it!"

Seeing his teammate die, Xie Yin quickly banked his fighter, launched two more missiles at Argoslo, and opened fire with his cannons, riddling its body with shells.

BOOM!

Two more holes were blasted into Argoslo’s body, and the dense hail of cannon fire tore into it, sending flesh and blood flying.

The other fighters circled back, launching a desperate, life-or-death assault on Argoslo.

Ignoring the attacks, Argoslo savagely lunged at the nearest fighter, extended its sharp talons, and crushed the jet in its grasp.

"AHH!"

A continuous stream of agonized screams echoed over the comms channel.

...

Meanwhile, the Blackbird transport led the formation in its detour, continuing toward their destination.

On the cockpit display, icons were turning gray one by one.

Each icon represented a fighter jet.

Watching this, Qiansha felt his heart bleed for his men. He clenched his left fist so tightly that his knuckles cracked.

He had personally trained most of these fighter squadrons; it was impossible not to feel the pain of their loss.

Just then, the piercing alarm blared again. The radar showed a swarm of small red dots rapidly approaching from ahead.

"Damn, it’s a swarm!"

Ambot said, his expression tightening.

"Ambot, sir, we’ll cover your breakout. The rest is up to you."

Captain Li Zhou of Squad 4 spoke over the comms, his voice steady.

"Alright. We’re counting on you."

Ambot replied, his expression complex.

SWOOSH!

Five fighters accelerated and broke away to engage the enemy.

The transport formation banked left again, continuing its attempt to break through.

Soon, Li Zhou’s squadron closed in on the dense swarm of Blood Breath Falcons and fired a volley of missiles into them.

BOOM!

Blood Breath Falcons were blown out of the sky.

Having drawn the swarm’s attention, Li Zhou and his pilots banked their fighters, attempting to lead the creatures astray.

Their strategy proved to be highly effective.

However, a considerable number of Blood Breath Falcons still chased after the transport formation.

BANG! BANG!

The hulls of the transport ships cracked open, revealing pop-up gun turrets that began firing continuously at the incoming Blood Breath Falcons.

The falcons were shot down one after another.

Inside the Goliath Transport.

Jing Chuan, tense to the breaking point, looked at Long Ming and asked.

"Long Ming, aren’t you nervous?"

"How could I not be? We’re in a transport ship, not on the ground. If this thing gets blown up, we’re toast."

Long Ming appeared perfectly calm, but inwardly he was frantic. ’In past dangers, I could always figure out a way to respond. Worst case, I could at least fight for a chance. But now, there’s nothing I can do.’

STATIC~

An anxious shout erupted from the radio.

"Transport 07, the *Wind Mist*, is hit! Engine 2 is on fire...!"
