Gateway of Immortality

Chapter 1307: Corpse Array

"So Huang Tian and the sect leader of Wuji Sect were bought over by the Withered Origin Pill." Daoist Master Zhenyi recalled the past.

Buying over a Spiritual Infant cultivator had never been easy. The conditions capable of moving someone at that level were exceedingly few.

Qu Huan had been a hidden piece personally planted inside Sin Abyss by Zhenyi. Yet after reaching the Spiritual Infant Realm, he had slipped beyond his control. If not for the great upheaval within Sin Abyss this time, he likely would never have chosen to serve as an inside agent.

After learning the truth, the crowd looked at the Withered Origin Pill with far less burning desire and far more caution. Qin Sang also lost much of his interest.

The consequence of taking the Withered Origin Pill was the decline of essence, qi and psyche. The Jade Buddha could only protect the primordial spirit. Once the hidden injury erupted, one’s cultivation realm would even fall, making the gain far from worth the price.

Qu Huan did not hesitate in the slightest and handed the Withered Origin Pill over to Zhenyi. Once they understood the inside story, everyone’s morale surged.

According to the original plan, trapping Sin Abyss inside Yu City and confronting them across the city walls had already been the best possible outcome. Now that the situation had turned once more, none of them were willing to settle for that result.

Strike while the enemy is weak and finish them. Sin Abyss had brought this disaster upon itself.

"Fellow Daoists, you have all heard it. Sin Abyss is torn by internal strife and has suffered grievous losses. This is a once-in-a-thousand-years opportunity. I hope that none of you will hold back. Give everything you have and break the array!" Zhenyi shouted loudly.

This time, the cultivators of Small Cold Domain offered no objections.

Devil Lord Tongyou said, "The main army is already on the way. Even if we cannot break the array, we can still pin them down and deny them any chance to repair its flaws. However, I have heard that the inner city array was left behind by Sin Abyss’s predecessors and has never once been breached. Breaking into the inner city will not be easy. We still need to make long-term plans..."

As he spoke, the group joined forces and broke through more than a dozen layers of ancient barriers.

Even from outside the city-guarding array, they could see that within the lotus array, one petal of the azure lotus had turned dim and gray, filled with chaotic haze. It looked as though a violent hurricane was raging inside, and endless thunderous roars shook the air.

Yu City trembled, and the lotus array dimmed for a moment.

Qin Sang and the others suddenly felt their entire bodies tighten. Then the scenery before their eyes abruptly changed, and they were forcibly shifted elsewhere.

Reinforcements had arrived. They assisted the cultivator surnamed Qi and forcefully split Qin Sang’s group apart, slowing their advance in breaking the array.

Whoosh! The ebony sword transformed into a streak of sword light and guarded his body.

Qin Sang swept his gaze across the surroundings and saw no sign of anyone else. It seemed like he had been deliberately singled out.

Yet not the slightest worry appeared on Qin Sang’s face. Earlier, Qu Huan had already revealed every transformation of the array to them. Sin Abyss was merely making a desperate final struggle.

At the same time, Sin Abyss’s Spiritual Infant cultivators all entered the array to block the invaders.

Blue skies and white clouds stretched overhead. Flowers bloomed in splendid abundance, and a rich fragrance lingered at the tip of the nose.

The scenery here was utterly out of place compared to the battlefield outside.

Qin Sang knew he had fallen into a pocket space within the array. After only a few breaths, the Sky-Eyed Butterfly had already seen through flaws in the false landscape, but Qin Sang did not act rashly.

"Hmm?" As if sensing something, Qin Sang’s eyes sharpened. He lightly tapped the ground and shot high into the air.

The next moment, the earth churned violently. Streams of black qi surged upward from underground. Wherever the black qi touched, the flowers instantly withered and died, and the beautiful landscape was ruined in an instant.

Whoosh... Black qi billowed as yin winds howled, sounding like countless evil spirits wailing in misery.

Then, one after another, shriveled hands clawed their way out of the earth. From beneath the ground crawled corpse refinements, one after another.

Strange, incomprehensible sounds came from their mouths. They abruptly lifted their heads, and pitch-black ghostly eyes locked onto Qin Sang in perfect unison. The bizarre sight sent a chill through the heart.

"Daoist Qin, I have long heard that your divine abilities are unmatched. Today, I finally have the chance to witness them for myself." All the refined corpses spoke at once, their voices identical, clearly controlled by someone behind the scenes.

"A corpse array?" Qin Sang instantly thought of one person. "You are the famed Judge?"

While searching for Heavenly Corpse Sect and Tan Hao, Qin Sang had carefully investigated Sin Abyss cultivators who cultivated the Dao of corpses and ghosts. He knew of a devilish cultivator known as Judge, famed for his corpse refinement techniques.

However, his corpse refinement path differed from Heavenly Corpse Sect’s. Rather than focusing on strengthening a single refined corpse, he arranged the refined corpses into a corpse array, making his methods uniquely strange.

It was said that so long as one remained inside the corpse array, Judge stood undefeated and was extraordinarily difficult to handle. Qin Sang examined closely and indeed discovered that every refined corpse was linked by qi, secretly forming a mysterious array.

"I dare not accept such praise! My little reputation likely means nothing in your eyes..." The refined corpses burst into wild laughter.

Qin Sang’s gaze swept over them one by one, yet he could not discern where Judge’s true body was hidden. Perhaps every refined corpse was his true body.

"Stop looking. None of these are his real body. He uses a soul-inhabiting technique, letting his soul inhabit refined corpses. He can shift freely anywhere within the corpse array. From appearance alone, it is impossible to determine which refined corpse houses his primary soul. The Sky Eyes happens to be perfectly countered by him. They clearly sent him here on purpose to stop you." Bai secretly transmitted his voice.

As a refined corpse himself, he could perceive the mysteries within the corpse array.

"Brother Bai, can you locate his primary soul?" Qin Sang’s expression remained calm as he secretly communicated with Bai.

"If I clearly see the array’s changes, I should be able to find clues. Keep him occupied first. I’ll strike when the opportunity appears," Bai replied.

A gleam flashed in Qin Sang’s eyes. He wasted no more words. Raising a hand, he pointed forward.

The ebony sword roared out. In an instant, sword light fell like rain, blanketing the corpse array as it evolved into the Seven-Yin-Soul Killing Array.

The laughter of the refined corpses abruptly stopped. What followed was a piercing shriek. Every refined corpse moved at once, turning into streaks of black shadows.

At first glance, their movements seemed chaotic and without pattern. Yet as they moved, their speed grew faster and faster until they ultimately merged into one. Corpse qi soared into the heavens. Only then did the corpse array’s true power fully reveal itself.

Qin Sang tried using the Seven-Yin-Soul Killing Array’s power to affect souls and force out Judge’s primary soul, but the result was poor. His primary soul truly could move at will.

Seeing this, Qin Sang decisively changed the sword array’s form. In an instant, killing intent filled the sword array. The sword light turned cold and terrifying, overflowing with pure slaughtering force!

Whoosh! The two arrays clashed. Qin Sang held the upper hand. He seized upon a flaw in the corpse array, and tens of thousands of sword lights simultaneously slashed toward one refined corpse.

Judge was alert and reacted instantly.

Within the corpse array, the other refined corpses formed bizarre hand seals and struck them through the air toward that refined corpse. The power of the entire corpse array converged upon it. Its corpse qi surged violently, and a layer of black armor formed over its body, condensed entirely from corpse qi.

Boom! But Judge was still a step too slow. The black armor had only just formed when the sword light arrived. The armor shattered on impact, and the refined corpse’s body was instantly ground apart by the sword array.

Bang! The refined corpse toppled backward, its body splitting into countless fragments. Yet in the very next moment, a new refined corpse crawled out from underground. The corpse array remained completely intact.

Qin Sang froze for a moment, then attacked again without hesitation, driving the sword relentlessly forward.

As time passed, refined corpse after refined corpse was shredded by the sword array. Yet the corpse array never collapsed. Judge’s refined corpses poured forth endlessly. Whenever one was destroyed, another was immediately summoned to take its place.

The war among the three domains had lasted so long that corpses were the one thing in endless supply. No one knew just how many refined corpses Judge had refined. They seemed truly inexhaustible.
