"You have some nerve coming back here."

Elias stopped beneath the balcony, the woman standing above him had changed very little, her long dark hair fell over one shoulder and the elegant dress she wore made it difficult to believe she was standing in one of Ravenport’s most dangerous districts, her beauty had only become sharper with age, refined rather than diminished over the years.

Elias smiled.

"Good evening, Seraphine."

Her eyes narrowed.

"Don’t call me that like we parted yesterday."

"Would you prefer something more formal?"

"I’d prefer you explain why a man who disappeared ten years ago is standing outside my house in the middle of the night."

Elias glanced at the guards stationed farther down the street. The guards he had expertly manoeuvred to arrive before the structure before him. The rules were the same, they weren’t allowed within a huge radius of the building and that’s why they were out of ear shot.

"Can I come up?"

"No."

"Still the stubborn woman from years ago i see.."

"Still the shameless boy from years ago i see" she clapped back.

Elias smirked "Hey come on, you don’t have to be like that"

She turned and walked away from the balcony, Elias sighed.

"Some things never change."

This was Seraphine, the third wife of the chairman.

A moment later the door to the residence opened, Seraphine stood there, she looked him over from head to toe.

"You really did come back huh?"

"I did."

"Why?"

"I need your help."

Her expression hardened.

"Ofcourse you do"

"Someone i know was taken."

"Someone? Who are they?"

"Kai."

Something shifted in her expression.

"Who is Kai?"

"Someone very important and dear to me" Elias said with a stern expression that borderline showed that he was very serious about the matter.

She stared at him then she laughed softly.

"You?"

Elias raised an eyebrow, his stern expression faltered.

"What?"

"You’ve never said those words about anyone."

"Oh come on i am sure I’ve said them in the past."

"Yeah, you said that to me and didn’t mean them"

Elias didn’t answer, Seraphine stepped aside with a sigh.

"Come in."

The residence was exactly what Elias remembered, expensive furniture, quiet corridors, tasteful decorations, everything arranged with deliberate elegance, Seraphine poured herself a drink but didn’t offer him one.

She drank from it and set the cup down.

"Now tell me why you’re here."

Elias’s expression became serious.

"I need to enter the Dome."

The room went completely silent, Seraphine’s face changed.

"No."

"I haven’t finished."

"You don’t need to."

"I need to find Kai."

"And you think walking into the Dome is going to help you find this person?"

"I am not stupid enough yo just waltz into the dome, you underestimate me phina"

"Don’t call me that, you lost the right to use that name" she said quickly.

"Oh come on don’t be difficult"

She stared at him, Elias continued.

"I need a way inside without anyone knowing I’m there."

Seraphine folded her arms.

"You’ve lost your mind."

"It’s nothing new"

"The Dome would literally kill you and don’t even think you are as skilled as they are, they’ll literally kill you immediately they recognize you."

"That’s why I won’t enter through the usual channels."

Seraphine studied him then she slowly understood.

"You already have a plan?"

"I might have something in mind"

"Then why come to me when you should be out there executing said plan?"

"Because you have access."

Her expression became suspicious.

"Access to what?"

"The private cargo route."

She didn’t respond, Elias smiled.

"Your household shipments enter the Dome regularly."

Seraphine’s eyes narrowed.

"You’ve been doing your homework."

"I remember how things work."

"And give me reasons why i should help you of all people retrieve a lover from arguably one of the most secure places in the continent?"

Elias knelt down immediately,

"Please..i know you have no reason to help me and i would understand entirely if you don’t at all but i am begging you please help me, if not for anything but for the relationship we shared in the past"

Seraphina’s eyes widened, obviously surprised by the figure kneeling before her, she was touched.

"Stand up, you look pathetic" He stood up in a flash as she walked toward the window, for several seconds she watched the street below then she spoke.

"I have a shipment going to the Dome tomorrow."

Elias said nothing.

"My personal supplies. Clothing, books, household items, some imported goods."

She turned around.

"They don’t inspect everything, so you could hide inside."

"Thank you so much" Elias said, thankful.

"Are you sure you want to do this?. You could suffocate, be discovered, or be delivered directly into an armory."

"I’ll take my chances."

Seraphine laughed despite herself.

"Of course you will."

She walked back toward him.

"The shipment leaves tomorrow evening."

"When?"

"Six."

"Where?"

"Warehouse seven."

Elias nodded.

"I’ll be there, thank you very much"

Seraphine caught his arm before he could leave.

"Wait."

He looked at her hand then at her.

"This is a dangerous game you’re playing, i can’t believe i am saying this but i don’t want to see you dead "

Elias’s smile disappeared.

"They’re the ones who decided to fuck with me."

Seraphine held his gaze, for a moment neither moved then she released him.

"Tomorrow. Six o’clock."

"I’ll be there."

"And Elias?"

He looked back.

"If you get caught..."

"I won’t."

She smiled faintly.

"Arrogant prick"

He rushed towards her gave her a kiss by the cheek and left.

**

By the time Elias reached the old building the city had fallen quiet, he knocked three times, once, twice, then once more, the door opened, his old master looked at him.

"You found a way in yet?"

"Tomorrow."

The old man stepped aside.

"Come inside."

Elias entered, the door closed behind him.

"Tell me, how did you manage to get a hold of a way to smuggle your self in?"

"I have a route."

"Through?"

"The Chairman’s wife."

The old man stopped walking then slowly looked over his shoulder.

"Which one?"

"Seraphine."

A long silence followed, finally the old master rubbed his forehead.

"Of course."

Elias smiled.

"What?"

"You always did have a talent for making simple situations complicated."

"I thought I was making this one simple."

"You fucked one of the Chairman’s wives, disappeared for ten years, returned to Ravenport, and your solution to infiltrating the Dome is to use her household cargo."

Elias shrugged.

"When you say it like that, it sounds complicated."

"It is complicated."

"Tomorrow evening."

The old master sighed.

"Fine."

He walked toward a locked door.

"But if you’re entering the Dome, you’re going prepared."

The lock opened, inside was a private armory, Elias’s eyes moved across the weapons, the old master pointed toward a black cloak.

"Presence suppression."

Elias picked it up.

"I remember these, I used it a lot during my early missions."

"Yeah, well you would be needing them if you want to infiltrate the dome, they are very effective" the old man said and picked up a knife.

"Anti-magic knives."

He examined them.

"They are goodRestraint breakers, your partner may be bound when you find him."

Elias slipped two into his coat.

" These are Useful, thanks"

The old man grunted something and picked up another equipment.

"Smoke capsules."

"How many?"

"Six."

"I’ll take all of them."

"Of course you will."

The old master handed him a small crystal.

"Communication crystal. Limited range."

Elias pocketed it.

"Emergency?"

"Only if necessary."

"I won’t need it."

"You always say that in the past, this is not a normal assassin mission, this is THE mission"

"I would keep that in mind thank you"

The old master picked up a thin black blade.

"This one."

Elias looked at it.

"What’s special?"

"High grade null dagger, it cuts through essentially very complex spells like it’s nothing"

Kai’s eyes widened "i would be taking that thank you" he said. The old man chuckled.

They returned to the table, the old master spread a map across it.

"The Dome is beneath the central district."

Elias nodded.

"And we know it is the most secure place in the area...Ordinary criminals don’t know where it is. Most nobles don’t know. Even some Adventurer Guild officials have no idea."

The old master tapped the center.

"But underneath Ravenport is an entirely different world, a world forged by blood"

"Your main problem would be the Chairman’s circle."

Elias’s expression hardened.

"The current structure?" He asked, a bit perplexed.

"Three people matter most."

The old master placed three markers.

"The Chairman."

"The First Fang."

"And the Veiled Hand."

"The First Fang handles enforcement. If the Chairman orders someone dead, he makes certain it happens."

Elias nodded.

"The Veiled Hand?"

"Information. Surveillance. Internal security."

"That one worries me."

"He should."

The old master tapped the final marker.

"Then the Chairman himself."

Kai winced, he knew the chairman he knew exactly what he was capable of. An entirely different monster trom the rest of the bunch.

The old master studied him.

"You really intend to go through with this."

"Yes."

"For a boy you’ve known how long?"

"Three months "

"Three-months?" The old master reacted physically, he then chuckled.

"And here i thought you have known him for three years or more, he really did a number on you to exert this much effort on him"

Elias looked down at the note he’d kept folded in his pocket, the words were still there, COME ALONE IF YOU WANT HIM BACK, he folded it again.

"He’s not just a boy."

"Then what is he?"

Elias didn’t hesitate.

"He is my life."

The old master’s expression changed, Elias continued.

"The only one that matters."

Silence, the old master looked almost uncomfortable.

"Three months."

"I know."

"Three months, Elias."

"I know."

"You’ve known people for years and walked away from them."

"I know."

"And now someone disappears for a few hours and you’re willing to walk back into the Dome?"

He said trying to talk sense into him, but it was as if an unstoppable force met an immovable object.

Elias stood.

"I’d walk into hell if that’s where he was."

The old master stared at him then he sighed.

"You really are stupid"

Elias smiled.

"You taught me well."

"Don’t let your emotions make you careless."
