Kai opened his eyes to find out that he was back in the white void, his old body just laying still hovering in the thin air.

He frowned immediately

"What now?"

[Good day, Host.]

He looked. The blondie was already there, enormous face hovering in front of him, long digital hair drifting in slow pixelated waves. Those luminous blue eyes watched him with the same calm attention as last time.

Kai dragged a hand down his face.

"You could only pull me here when something’s about to go wrong. So what is it this time?"

[The meeting scheduled for dusk at Warehouse 7 carries a terminal probability.]

The words landed like a stone in his gut.

"Terminal."

[If Host and both Candidates proceed to the meeting as planned, the probability of Host death exceeds 92%. Probability of Candidate 004 death sits at 67%. Probability of Candidate 002 death sits at 71%.]

Kai stared at her. There is no way in hell they would loose to the red ledgers...

"You’re telling me that even with Elias and Lucien going all out, we still die."

[Not immediately. But the sequence of events that follows contact with the primary threat leads to irreversible outcomes in the majority of simulated branches.]

"What primary threat?"

[Designation: Jake Evans. Local alias: The Auditor. Abnormal variation. Zero detectable mana signature. Ability centers on targeted rejection of power. If he determines a person is ’not fitting’ with the authority they are using, that authority is temporarily suppressed. The effect functions as a high-grade anti-magic verdict.]

Kai floated in silence for a second, processing.

"So he looks at Elias, decides that his powers don’t matter and suddenly Elias is just a guy with knives."

[Simplified, but accurate. The same applies to Candidate 002’s World Tree Authority. And to Host’s System-assisted functions.]

"That’s complete bullshit."

[It is within the internal logic of this world. Rare, but permitted.]

Kai exhaled hard.

"Okay. Worst-case version. Walk me through how we actually die."

The System didn’t soften it.

[Primary sequence: The group enters Warehouse 7 under the assumption they are meeting mid-level Red Ledger operatives. Jake Evans is present in an unassuming role. Because he carries no mana signature, initial threat assessment dismisses him. Conversation begins. During the exchange, Evans completes appraisal on all three of you. He rejects Candidate 004’s Astral Radiance first. In the resulting window of vulnerability, coordinated Red Ledger assets separate the group. Candidate 002 attempts to manifest the World Tree to create distance and defense. Evans rejects the Authority mid-manifestation. The incomplete construct collapses. Host attempts to use Temporary Skill Borrowing or Infinite Strength to extract the others. System functions lag under the same rejection effect. Host is isolated. Terminal outcome for Host occurs within four minutes of isolation. Both Candidates are overwhelmed shortly after while attempting recovery.]

Kai felt cold all the way through his original body.

"Four minutes."

[In 92% of branches, yes.]

"And the other eight percent?"

[Host survives in a permanently diminished state. Both Candidates do not.]

The white void felt quieter than usual after that.

Kai eventually let out a long breath and looked up at her again.

"You could’ve led with that yesterday."

[The invitation had not yet been accepted. Probability remained theoretical until both Candidates committed to attendance.]

"They’re already planning to go."

[Yes. That is why you are here.]

Kai glanced down at his ordinary red-haired hands, then back at the giant digital face.

"well do you have anything for me? I mean ..we are facing a big threat "

[Correct. Stage Two benefits include access to the Astral Store. Host may now exchange accumulated Bond Coins for equipment, consumables, and limited-use tools. Current balance: 80,000 Bond Coins.]

Kai choked on nothing.

"Eighty thousand?!"

[Correct. Bond Coin accumulation has been ongoing since initial activation. Host simply disregarded the interface to view or spend them until now.]

Soft chimes sounded. Several translucent panels unfolded in the air around him, rows of items scrolling past with clean descriptions and prices. Weapons. Armor. Utility tools. Rare materials. Temporary catalysts. A few things that looked like one-use escape options.

Kai drifted closer and scanned them. High-grade recovery elixirs. A presence-suppressing cloak. Boots that allowed short aerial movement. A dagger that could cut low-to-mid tier barriers. A single-use Emergency Relocation stone that cost a painful number of coins but promised instant extraction for up to three people.

His hand hovered over the relocation stone.

Then he pulled back.

"If I blow everything right now on whatever looks useful, I’ll feel safer for five minutes and then get caught with empty pockets when the real problem shows up."

[Prudence noted.]

"I’m waiting. At least until I know exactly what I’m dealing with. Or not dealing with."

[Understood. Store access remains available at any time within the Astral Interface or via condensed mental command in the physical world.]

Kai nodded slowly, still eyeing the panels.

"Can any of this actually stop the Auditor?"

[Direct counters to Rejection are limited and expensive. Most available tools can only reduce exposure time or create brief windows of interference. None currently in the Host’s price range guarantee immunity.]

"Of course they don’t."

He floated there for another few seconds, then looked up at her.

"So you dragged me here to tell me we’re going to die, showed me a shop I can’t fully use yet, and now you’re going to tell me to go stop them."

[Yes.]

"They’re stubborn as hell."

[Yes.]

"Elias especially."

[Candidate 004’s risk assessment has historically been suboptimal when Host safety is involved.]

Kai almost laughed.

"That’s one way to put it."

The System’s luminous eyes stayed steady on him.

[Host must wake and intercept both Candidates before they reach Warehouse 7. Delay reduces survival probability further.]

"And if I’m too late?"

[Then the terminal sequence begins.]

The white void started thinning at the edges. The store panels faded. The giant digital woman regarded him one last time.

[Wake up, Host.]

Kai’s eyes snapped open and he sat up fast.

"Elias? Lucien?"

No answer.

He moved through the suite. Empty bathroom. Empty lounge. Coats gone. Boots gone. The nullifying bracelets they were supposed to be wearing were lying on the side table.

Kai’s blood ran cold.

[Both Candidates left the suite approximately forty-one minutes ago. Current trajectory is consistent with movement toward the eastern warehouse district.]

"Of course they did."

He grabbed his coat, shoved his feet into boots, and was already running for the door.

The System’s warning still echoed in his head with brutal clarity.

Ninety-two percent chance of death.

Four minutes from isolation to terminal outcome.

And the two idiots he was tied to had already decided to walk straight into it without him.
