Chapter 81: Elrinira’s offer

At this point, Elrinira cut in and said, "That could explain why, when you used Guidance earlier to find this place, a whole galaxy formed and not just one or two stars, which is the norm, but that still does not truly explain it since I’ve never even heard of elves getting that reaction when using Guidance.”

“You saw my guidance spell?” John asked in surprise while Silver Oracle stared at him and asked, "He used Guidance to find this room and a whole galaxy, or stars descended upon him?"

"I’m a goddess, young man; I can naturally tell when someone weaker is spying on me and, in turn, look back at them,” Elrinira replied before turning to Silver Oracle and saying. “The stars didn’t descend upon him; they came from within him."

All four women’s eyes widened in surprise before Silver Oracle mumbled. "But that would have to mean...but he doesn’t even have a class yet…

"Mean what?" John asked, still completely confused.

Elrinira looked at John again, but this time it lasted for several tense minutes before she said, "I propose a deal for you, young man."

“Does this deal involve you returning to the underworld?” John replied, to which Elrinira replied teasingly. “Perhaps.”

"Be careful, Vincarna. Making deals with the denizens of the underworld is dangerous, especially demons like succubi, as there are always hidden loopholes; they can use them to get what they want without paying anything in return or, in the worst case, they end up taking your soul." Silver Oracle advised.

Elrinira smiled, not looking offended at all, as she said, "Your friend is correct, Vincarna, was it?"

"Yes," John replied, causing Elrinira to nod before continuing. "Well, Vincarna, your friend is correct; making deals with Devils, Demons, and other denizens of the underworld is a risky affair, and you should always read the fine print.

However, in your case, you actually have something that I am in desperate need of, and I am willing to make this deal as simple as possible to get what I need."

"Why offer me a deal and not Silver Oracle, who is more powerful, or even Blue Ice Queen, who is part Phoenix?"

“What am I, chopped liver?” Ninth Wonder of the World complained, causing Sarah to sigh and say in exasperation. “Stop complaining that you're not the centre of attention for once.”

Elrinira smirked at their bickering before replying. "Simple: the elven princess would never accept; first, she already doesn't trust me, and then there’s the fact that dealing with demons goes against the tenets of 'The Order of the Mother Tree’… at least without permission from their leader, the Pope.”

John looked at Silver Oracle, who nodded to show what Elrinira said was true as Elrinira continued, “As for your part, phoenix friend, well, I don’t really have the best relationship with those birds, so that’s a bad idea. But to be completely honest, the real reason is that you interest me. A human who holds the Sheolarbiter badge is something even I’ve never heard of, and I’m curious about your potential.”

"Ok, let me hear your offer, and I will decide after." John said, which earned a grin from Elrinira before she said, "The offer is simple; you will help me eliminate that hateful human, and in return I will owe you a favour.

There was silence for a moment before Sarah said, "I'm guessing you can't kill him yourself or something will happen to your sister."

Elrinira gave a sad sigh before nodding. "Correct. After the hateful man raised my sister from the dead, he corrupted her body in some way, and now she seems to have two personalities: her own personality and a crazy one that seems to laugh and want nothing but death and destruction."

John and Mel looked at each other in surprise before Mel said. "That sounds disturbingly familiar."

"How? Tell me." Elrinira said in a strict, dangerous voice as she spread her wings, and her tail that had previously been swaying suddenly became long and seemed to gain a sharp edge.

All five of them went on the defensive again, but after Elrinira didn’t take any further action, John looked at her before saying, "I will answer your question if you answer mine."

"You dare refuse me? Do you know who you're dealing with?" Elrinira said in a cold tone.

"Yes, I am fully aware," John answered calmly before adding. “But you said it yourself; you need my help, and it just so happens you have answers for my friend's quest.”

Elrinira stared at him long and hard before sighing and letting her body visibly relax as she said, "My apologies, I have always been quick to anger when it comes to family. Ask your question."

"What was Francis trying to do with the magic circle he made in the abandoned building, and why is he draining that elf's blood?" John asked while pointing to the elf that was still tied up.

“Oh shit, I forgot about her,” Silver Oracle cursed and was about to rush over again when Elrinira’s words stopped her. “If you perform any sort of healing magic on her, that bastard will know and wake up.”

Only after saying that did she turn back to John and say, "Technically, that is two questions where we only agreed to one, but since they are connected and as a show of good faith, I will answer them for you.

The magic circle he was attempting to create but failed was a summoning circle. He was attempting to summon Pestilence, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Naturally, he failed; the fool thought that just because rats had an association with carrying diseases, he could use their blood to summon one of the four.”

Silver Oracle gasped after hearing what Elrinira revealed before saying. "If Pestilence were summoned in the middle of Thamethalas..."

"Then disease would quickly spread through the city and eventually the entire forest, ending them both." Elrinira finished before cursing, “As for why the bastard included other animals' blood, even I have no idea; god knows what that stupid human was thinking."

“Aren't you a god?” Ninth Wonder of the World asked, causing Elrinira to look at her in amusement and say. “I am, and if you do well in this, I may reward you with something special.”

Elrinira then turned back to John and continued, "As for why he is draining that elf's blood, it is to try using that instead of the rats' blood. As your friend has already explained, elves are one of the most powerful magical races in the mortal plane and using the blood of an elf may indeed allow him to summon Pestilence."

There was silence for a moment as the truth sank in before John asked, "I don't get it, why is he going to all this trouble when surely you're strong enough to cause great carnage and destruction here?"

Elrinira narrowed her eyes with a small grin before saying, "You're truly taking advantage of this beautiful lady. This is now your third question; the simple answer is that he can't make me do that."

"I thought he was blackmailing you?" Mel asked in confusion.

"He is, but there are limits to what I can do here in the mortal plane, and he knows this. Allow me to explain,” Elrinira replied. “First off, I did not come here by the correct channels. When a Demon or other denizen of the underworld enters the mortal plane to assist one of the natives, a ritual is performed to summon us, and that allows us to appear before them with our full strength."

“Such as your contract with Madam Death?” John asked.

“You know about that, do you? Yes, I did feel her quite recently; in fact, try to summon me, but for obvious reasons I had to refuse,” Elrinira replied before continuing. "However, because I entered the mortal plane or realm of the living, illegally to help my sister, my power was forcefully suppressed. Also, because I came here against the rules, I am being hunted by those who watch the gates between the different planes of existence.

If I use too much of my power, or forcefully restore my full strength, they will detect me and drag me back to the underworld, which is something I do not want while Elrinielle is still in the hands of that bastard. Also, while my power is suppressed the way it is, I would be no match for the leaders of the city, such as the Elven Queen.”

"Then why did he not summon you in the normal way?" Sarah asked curiously.

"For two reasons," Elrinira answered as her eyes narrowed even more and her tail began to move in a way John recognised a cat did when they were getting annoyed. "First, to summon a Demon as powerful as me with all my original power would normally require a sacrifice so great it would give off a display that no isolation barrier could completely block.

And second, because I would refuse to be summoned by him, a man who only used his Necromancy powers to bind my sister to him so that he could be with me."

Silver Oracles' eyes widened as she asked, "You're telling us that the only reason he raised your sister from the dead was to sleep with you both?"

“That’s so fucking messed up, not to mention desperate,” Mel cursed as the other women nodded in agreement.
