I made it. I actually made it through, whole.

He sat a long while simply breathing, letting the reality of his surroundings settle over him in careful, deliberate stages, the way a person eases into cold water rather than diving in all at once.

The grass beneath his palms felt exactly the way grass should feel — cool, slightly damp, individual blades bending and springing back beneath the pressure of his fingers in a way that felt, after seven months of ash and metal decking and alien soil, almost unbearably ordinary. A insect he couldn’t immediately name buzzed past his ear, and he found himself laughing, quietly, disbelievingly, at the sheer mundane miracle of something as simple as a bee going about its business in a field that had never once needed to worry about ash squalls or skarn packs or the desperate calculus of survival on a world that wanted nothing from its inhabitants but their continued endurance.

This is what home actually feels like. I’d almost forgotten. Seven months, and I’d almost forgotten the specific, unremarkable texture of a world that isn’t actively trying to kill you.

He thought, distantly, of Cael Athis’s grey ash and violet sky, of the Halcyon Span’s endless glittering traffic, of the Wraithfall Fringe’s scattered, hard-won colonies, of the fracture’s impossible light and the Guardian’s vast, patient presence. All of it real. All of it, now, permanently sealed behind him, a whole universe’s worth of struggle and connection and hard-won growth reduced to memory the moment the boundary had closed.

I’ll never see any of it again. Not Veyrhold, not Liora, not Corven or Dr. Farr or Renna or any of them.

That’s the price. That’s what I paid.

The grief arrived in a fresh, sudden wave, cutting through the relief and wonder in equal measure, and Rohan let himself feel it fully, sitting in the damp grass of a world he’d fought seven months to reach, mourning a universe he’d fought equally hard to leave.

Both things can be true. I can be home, and I can miss what I left behind, and neither feeling has to cancel the other out.

Then the status panel he’d carried across an entire universe flickered to life before his eyes, and Rohan felt every ounce of relief in his chest freeze into something closer to disbelieving shock.

[Great System Connection: Terminated.]

[Boundary Crossing: Complete.]

[Origin Realm Status Detected.]

[Recalculating...]

Rohan stared at the notification, heart hammering, uncertain what exactly he was witnessing. He remembered, distantly, the crude, unfamiliar status panel he’d glimpsed only once, seven months ago, immediately after his Awakening ceremony — simple, sparse, the barely-formed beginnings of whatever system governed ability and growth in his home universe. He’d never had the chance to properly explore it before the dungeon had opened beneath him and swallowed his entire life whole.

Recalculating what? What’s happening?

He remembered that first, fleeting glimpse of his Origin Realm status with a clarity that surprised him, given everything that had happened since — standing in the sports hall, stomach still churning with disappointment at what had seemed, in that single suspended moment, like the most anticlimactic Awakening result any of his classmates had ever received. He recalled the sparse, almost embarrassing simplicity of it:

[Name: Rohan Roy]

[Rank: 1]

[Class: Unclassified]

[Attributes: None Detected]

He’d barely had time to feel the full sting of that disappointment before the ground had opened beneath him and swallowed his entire life whole. Seven months of Hestia’s Great System, of Molten Assimilation and Evolution Gene and a spear woven through with a fragment of a goddess’s own nature, had followed that single, humiliating notification — an entire universe’s worth of growth built on top of a foundation so unremarkable it had barely registered as a foundation at all.

Rank 1. Unclassified. None Detected. That’s where I started. That’s the person who fell through that dungeon.

[Recalculation Complete.]

[Origin Realm Status]

[Name: Rohan Roy]

[Rank: Unclassified — Exceeds Standard Assessment Parameters]

[Class: Evolution Gene (Origin Confirmed)]

[Attributes: Molten]

[Titles: Rabid Wolf Slayer I, Hestia’s Acknowledgement, Veyrhold Trusted Helper, Skarn Hunter I, Ship-Held Hostage-Taker, Boundary Walker]

[Note: Foreign-system growth has been recognised and integrated. Origin Realm baseline recalculated to reflect accumulated development. Assessment authorities will require formal review.]

Rohan read the notification three times, each pass leaving him more thoroughly stunned than the last, the contrast between what he remembered and what he was currently reading almost too vast to properly process.

My rank carried over. Everything I built in the other universe — the Great System, Hestia’s training, everything I earned across seven months of ash squalls and desperate survival — it actually transferred. It’s part of my Origin Realm status now.

I’m not the boy who stood in that sports hall anymore, disappointed at a Rank 1 result. I never have to be that boy again.

He opened the panel further, scrolling through details he’d never had the chance to properly examine before the dungeon had first claimed him, and found himself confronted with numbers and classifications that bore almost no resemblance to whatever baseline an ordinary, freshly-Awakened eighteen-year-old should have possessed.

[Combat Assessment: Exceeds Normal standards]

[Skill: Molten Assimilation — Verified. Origin Realm equivalent classification: Restricted — Advanced Manipulation Category]

[Physical Conditioning: Exceeds standard Awakened baseline by significant margin]

[Endurance Threshold: Exceeds standard Awakened baseline by significant margin]

[Combat Experience: Verified — Extensive. Includes documented engagement against multiple hostile classifications, including non-standard entities outside typical Origin Realm taxonomy.]

His eye caught on one title in particular among the list — Boundary Walker — a designation he didn’t recognise from anything Hestia’s Great System had ever granted him. He opened its description with careful curiosity, uncertain what he’d find.

[Title: Boundary Walker]

[Description: Awarded to individuals who have successfully completed a full, voluntary crossing between separated universal frameworks while retaining coherent identity and accumulated capability. Exceedingly rare. Origin Realm records indicate no prior confirmed instance of this designation being awarded.]

[Effect: Grants minor resistance to reality-distortion effects. Grants recognition within certain specialised Awakened Authority departments focused on interdimensional phenomena.]
