'Huh...?'
Sweet Radish's eyes went wide.
'He picked the Spirit Sorcerer...!'
Sweet Radish had been the one to give the order, yet he was surprised at the sheer speed of Almond’s execution.
'How can he be this responsive?!'
Almond had never actually favored the Spirit Sorcerer. He'd handled the champion fairly well in the LIL tournament. Whether it was a team fit issue or something else, he never really played the champion again. Now, out of nowhere, he easily accepted it and instantly picked the champion.
There hadn’t been any time to say a word!
Either way, Sweet Radish revised his strategy. "Sweet Potato!"
"What!?" Sweet Potato had gone to guard Black Tea.
"Protect Almond!"
"Wait, what?! You told me to protect Black Tea, dude!"
— lmaooo Sweet Potato dropping the formality
— The half-polite speech is sending me
— lmaooooo
— DUDE!!
"Just hold on until five spirit stacks minimum... Hold on! Black Tea is in minion state, and Almond just contracted!"
"Fine, fine. I'll figure out how to survive on my own!"
Black Tea put away her gun and flopped behind a boulder. "Ugh!"
Sweet Potato picked his shield back up and changed direction. The enemies weren’t targeting Sweet Potato, but Sweet Radish, who had been driven deep into their formation.
Crash!
"Aah...!"
He'd committed with the intention of dying anyway, but died even faster than expected.
'Why is the damage ratio like this?'
They'd even contracted the assassin mage, Rift Chaser Lyxia. The enemies also had two more carries on top of that and another staff user.
'These people are completely unhinged.'
No wonder the damage output was unhinged.
Pop!
[HP: 0%]
Sweet Radish instantly became a rune spirit. He could have rushed to an ally and attempted a revival immediately, but that seemed hopeless in this situation.
'This might actually work out.'
As a rune spirit, Sweet Radish charged directly toward the enemies and hovered near them.
"Hey! Kill me! Come on, kill me!"
— ? lmaooooo
— LOL
— The provocation
— Insane lmao
Wiggle wiggle.
He even taunted them by shaking his rear end, though a rune spirit was fairly limited.
"Hah~ this guy is so annoying."
The enemy had no choice but to finish off Sweet Radish’s rune spirit.
Thud!
[Execution]
The rune spirit execution animation was surprisingly long, which meant accumulated losses for the enemy in a tense moment.
'Nice.'
Sweet Radish had already prepared to die, so at least he'd cost them more time. What could a rune spirit even do? Team ranked was different from regular matches.
[Team Voice]
In team-ranked Survival mode, a player could still call the shots even after dying. They couldn't communicate as a rune spirit, but ironically could once they fully died.
'I can make the calls from up above while looking down.'
Whoooosh~
Sweet Radish immediately flew up and took in the entire situation overhead. Of course, a fog of war covered everything outside friendly vision.
'Still better than first person.'
Being able to see all ally positions from above was an enormous advantage. If someone was going to die and stall for time, this was the better way to do it.
“Bro! Just stack spirits to five minimum! Sweet Potato dying is fine! Your position right now is a little high up... Huh?”
He was about to focus on Almond first.
Boom!
Boom!
Almond, now the Spirit Sorcerer, fired off skills with remarkable fluency and had already blown past five stacks.
"What the?! Insane..." Sweet Radish said out loud instead of the party chat.
— What the
— That's incredible lmaooo
— Whoa
— Was he good at Spirit Sorcerer too?
He'd known Almond was good.
'But this good?'
Then, why hadn't he been playing this champion all this time?
***
'Spirit Sorcerer...'
When the Spirit Sorcerer appeared, Choi Sa-Rang's expression became slightly complicated.
'Right. It was always one of the champions he was unusually good at.'
Almond didn't favor the Spirit Sorcerer. As far as she knew, he'd barely played the champion a handful of times. His understanding of the champion's mechanics was quite limited, but he was good because he perfectly resolved one uniquely difficult condition that nobody else could execute.
[Soul Wave]
'Hummm!'
That violet cloud was almost symbolic of Spirit Sorcerer Melly. Her attack projectiles had to land and stack spirit charges to summon and command spirit entities. However, the projectiles moved at roughly twice the speed of a running person. This awkward skill was basically a turtle compared to arrows or bullets, but it had one advantage.
Swish~ swish~
The player could redirect its path freely, curving it however they wished. Even so, this control method was too awkward for most people.
'It’s like trying to move an arm that doesn't exist...’
Everyone had the same complaint about this skill. However, Almond moved the soul wave as well as moving his own arm.
Sa-Rang's emotions grew complicated. The freer his projectile moved, the more she saw herself overlaid on him.
Crunch...
Sa-Rang found herself grabbing the hem of her skirt for no particular reason. She already knew. Theoretically, that man probably went through the same kind of pain. People were generally numb to others' pain. Actually feeling it was another matter.
'I was good at Spirit Sorcerer too.'
She was good at Spirit Sorcerer for the same reason as Almond.
'We're the same.'
It struck her with clarity. She felt what his ten years had been like and how similar he was to her.
'Maybe that's why he never played that champion.'
She sensed that he had probably avoided the Spirit Sorcerer for the same reason as her.
***
Almond thought to himself.
'Oh. Right, there was this one.'
Almond didn’t have a particular reason for not playing Melly. He just never properly paid attention because it wasn't a bow-wielding champion.
'This one was good though.'
Thinking back on it now, this Soul Wave skill perfectly suited him.
'Not that many skills move this freely.'
Boom...!
From his perspective, it felt like toying with children as he twisted his arm around. Moving it freely up and down made the enemies confused as they tried to dodge.
Boom!
As long as he didn't take his eyes off them, they wouldn’t succeed at dodging. It was about twice their running speed, after all.
Lyxia, the only champion on the enemy side, snapped. "Hey! Stop letting it hit you!"
In theory, she was supposed to be dealing with Almond’s champion, but her random teammates kept feeding the spirit stacks.
"Then keep chasing me!"
"Seriously...! That makes no sense!"
"You go get hit by the laser cannons!"
She was in no position to talk either.
Crackle! Crackle!
[Kill Shot]
This simple linear skill had an extremely narrow hit range. It was literally like a laser. Almond could dodge it just by ducking his head slightly.
Whoosh!
"Again...!?"
This wasn't how it was supposed to work.
'What is this guy?'
Dodging it this easily only worked in theory. This completely contradicted the intended design, which made it undodgeable most of the time.
[Wormhole]
The laser Kill Shot passed through a wormhole and came out of another one.
Crackle crackle!
Almond curiously looked at the wormhole and still dodged it with Melly's sluggish body. "Oh...?"
Whoooosh~
— lmaooooo what
— Oh...
— Sage movement LOL
— he dodged again lmaooo
— The Lord doing magic tricks~
— Baby finding it fascinating since it's new
— Dodging like a maniac
Through all of that, the Soul Wave clearly remained under control.
Boom!
Lyxia also took a hit. "Ahhh!"
Almond dodged everything while still landing attacks. It was like driving while looking forward without looking at his hands on the wheel, but he seemed like a monster to the opponent.
"What, what the HELL?! How is this happening?! Is this a hack?!"
— Why does everyone call everything a hack LOL
— Hacker!!
— Hacker who uses nuts~
— lmaooooo is he hacking??
Viewers laughed at the extreme statement, but it felt justified from the receiving end. A bug or a hack seemed reasonable from the other side.
"You were clearly watching something else!"
She knew how to counter Spirit Sorcerers by reading the opponent’s intent. The Soul Wave could be dodged easily enough. No, dodged wasn't even the right concept. The opponent would just naturally miss by slipping up.
Boom!
"Ugh!?"
The Soul Wave's damage wasn't impressive, but its knockback on hit was quite strong. It had to be to protect the slow Melly. The design hadn't really accounted for multiple hits consecutively.
Boom!
Boom!
"AHHH!?" Lyxia couldn't even get through her wormhole.
Her allies shouted, "What are you DOING! Can't you kill that thing?!"
They were starting to see the result.
[Enemy Eliminated!]
[Toke → SweetPotato]
Sweet Potato, the tank, had died.
[Double Kill!]
[Toke → BlackTea]
Black Tea also went down.
Lyxia still hadn't landed a hit on Almond. She wasn’t even close. Instead, she was the one getting hit.
Boom! Boom!
'This... damn...'
She was furious beyond reason. This accuracy was beyond what she could accept.
"You cheating piece of garbage! Dumb Young Man?! What a fitting name you gave yourself~. Dumb because you're too dumb to do anything except hack!"
— lmaooooooooooo
— Dumb Young Man LOL
— lmaooooo
— First nickname shoutout
— The sound of that nickname is genuinely violent
— High praise!
Almond just didn't respond. This kind of thing happened too often.
Sweet Radish's call came through. “Bro! You have way too many stacks?! Summon them now! Everyone else is dead!”
Almond simply followed. "Okay~. Summon~."
"!?"
To the opponent, it sounded like a taunt.
— Yeah~ go away~ summon~
— Yeah ok~ summon~
— Hack? Just die~
— lmaooooooooooo
Sweet Radish had said six spirit stacks were enough. The actual count had grown more than four times that.
[Spirits x 28]
Woooong...
An enormous dark curtain rose as a squad of spirit entities appeared.
— Wake up...
— That's insane lmaooo
— Game over, round them all up~
"Insane."
"Th-they actually..."
Fear spread across the enemies' faces.
'What.'
Even Sweet Radish nearly fainted at how many spirit entities had risen.
'Spirit entities summoned in Survival mode are twice as strong.'
Without minions in Survival mode, this type of skill had a built-in advantage.
[Abyss Blessing]
[Under the Shadow's influence, all stats of summoned spirit entities are doubled.]
The number of spirit entities was effectively fifty-six instead of twenty-eight.
“C-can you... control all of them?” Sweet Radish asked carefully.
Almond nodded. "Yeah."
“Then please circle toward Black Tea and Sweet Potato's rune spirits while the spirit entities fight in your place. Make it as chaotic as possible!”
"Okay~."
The spirit entities instantly scattered in every direction and tore through the enemies as though each one possessed its own will.
'That's impossible.'
Sweet Radish felt shocked despite issuing the command himself.
'This... Can this actually work?'
Five enemies against Almond and twenty-eight spirit entities... Could they win just like this?
