Season 5: Chapter 113. The Second Lesson, Right Here (3)Every LIL champion had its own position. Of course, this changed depending on how champions handled them. The basic categories were mage, assassin, carry, tank, and bruiser. Naturally, a rock-paper-scissors relationship existed between them.
"Insane... an assassin first?!"
Orange King, who had picked a bruiser, was quite surprised. The enemy had picked an assassin champion. In theory, he would eat them for breakfast.
"Wait, this..." Various scenarios ran through Orange King's head. "This is bad, isn't it?"
BornToB asked from the side, "Why? Isn't this to our advantage?"
Common sense said tanks and bruisers were strong against the burst skill-based damage of assassins and mages. Instead, they were vulnerable to the sustained auto-attack damage from carries. It was basic common sense that tanks were strong against assassins.
"That's only from level four up after some level of setup has been established."
In the very early game, levels one to three were a different story.
"I have no way to deal with that assassin right now!"
This was one of the interesting things about LIL. There were no permanent counters. Things changed based on the timing or tactics. Right now, the dominant variable was the timing, which was extremely early in the game.
Without appropriate items and skills, a tank or bruiser couldn't apply meaningful pressure on an assassin. They wouldn't die to the assassin either, but also couldn't stop them.
Meanwhile, an assassin was exactly what the name implied: a predator against the weak. They could effortlessly kill uncontracted minion-like players. One had entered the backline with zero resistance.
Slaaaaaash!
"AHHHHH!"
The result was already predetermined.
[An ally has been eliminated!]
[OGTae → Lemon]
The enemy assassin targeted the highest variable mage first.
[Rune Spirit]
Pop!
Lemon instantly became a rune spirit.
"Ah... damn! The front?! No wait!"
Orange King needed to charge forward to attack, but that would leave the rear completely exposed.
"If I go back, there's no one to initiate in the front!"
Bubblegum needed to go either forward or backward as a tank. The situation wasn’t good.
"Auuughh! Ahh!"
Whoosh! Swish!
He swung his shield wildly, trying to catch the nimble assassin. Not a single hit landed.
"Ugh! Actually, it doesn't get this bad against an assassin if you just counter properly!?"
Assassin champions had fallen out of fashion as the first contract pick. Even with just artifact items, a well-handled response would render them useless. However, the core of that response depended on a shield-wielding CC machine. The usual counter strategy had no chance of working due to Bubblegum.
BornToB asked, "Wh-what do we do!?"
Orange King made a decision. "Oh, forget it. Just PUSH THROUGH!!"
The other enemies, besides the assassin, were all uncontracted too. He charged in, trying to do something with the Spearmancer.
"D-does this work!? This?!"
"Look! It's not hopeless at all. Right now, I'm the Spearmancer. The Spearmancer’s specialty is Piercing. Let’s pierce through and aggro ping-pong off Gearloff! One Gearloff ping-pong and it's total teamfight domination! Watch!"
Clop clop! Clop clop!
Orange King charged in on horseback.
"Lance Arts! First Form!!"
Whoooosh!
"Lance Arts SECOND FOOOORM!!!"
Swish!
— lmaooo so loud
— LOL
— Auditory damage incoming
— Enemies flustered loool
Hearing the official LIL Champions commentator's voice slightly threw everyone off, but the response was as expected.
Everyone focused fire on him.
Orange King activated his skill at the proper moment. "Mech Chariot COLLISIOOON!"
[Mech Chariot Collision]
Spearmancer Sardin's mechanical warhorse, Gearloff, charged forward solo to deal heavy damage. Then, it converted into Sardin's armor.
Boom!
Both Orange King and the enemy took damage. Now armored, Orange King continued the skill sequence.
"Lance Arts! THIRD FOOOORM!!!"
Thud!
His spear tip connected with the opposing mage's neck.
[Stun]
The Third Lance Arts landed and stunned the target.
"One stunned! Got the mage too, so it’s basically done!? Kill this..."
However, his own health had also reached rock bottom.
‘Hm?’
[HP: 13%]
His own situation was desperate.
"It doesn't matter!? Who am I!? Spearmancer! Back on Gearloff... Cooldown?"
Landing kills or dealing enough damage allowed the Spearmancer to remount Gearloff, gaining shield and attack power. The target that Orange King set his sights on needed to die.
"That guy! Kill him! Kill! Kill him right nooow!"
He stabbed the mage with his spear. "MOVE!"
Thud...
The enemy shield user charged in and pushed Orange King away while the mage retreated.
"G-get him! EMERGENCY!" Orange King swung his spear and called out, but only Almond stood behind him. "Almond! SHOOT HIM!"
— What kind of battle calls are these??
— Kill! Shoot! EMERGENCY! Is that all??
— lmaooooooooooo
— LOL
— So loud!
"That guy?" Almond immediately shot.
His arrow accurately flew toward the target.
"Predictable~!"
Thud!
[Parry]
The enemy tank deflected it with their shield. Shooting at whoever Orange King had stunned was too obvious.
[Stun]
This time, Almond got stunned by the parry.
Orange King's eyes went wide. This was the end for him.
Boom!
[An ally has been eliminated!]
He became a rune spirit.
Only Almond remained.
"One left! Kill him!"
Almond was still uncontracted with a bow. No matter how talented he was, he couldn’t win against an enemy assassin champion plus three others alone. The assassin had already closed the distance.
Slaaaaaash!
[Better luck next time...]
[9th place]
They suffered a full team wipe.
— LMAO
— lmaooooo
— Lance Arts first form, second form, all that noise and only the third hit
— lmaooooooooooo
— Mechanical issues!
— Hahahahahaha
— Almond still survived the longest out of everyone
— Pfft, nothing on the real battlefield, huh?
— Good talk from above though~
***
Whoosh!
The four of them returned to the waiting room without Lemon, who had been a chance encounter.
Thud...!
Orange King dropped to his knees the moment he arrived. His legs had given out. "Damn..."
Bang!
He furiously pounded his fist against the floor. "AGHHHH!"
— lmaooooo
— Is it really that serious??
— LOL
— Why so dramatic
— Trying to avoid criticism by being dramatic lmaooo
— Damn!
Orange King's dramatic rage had Bubblegum and BornToB making eye contact.
'What do we do?'
'I have no idea.'
Someone had to say something.
Bubblegum, perceptive as ever, tried to rephrase their intentions. "Ahem... th-this wasn't supposed to go this far."
BornToB chose to stay in character. "Good grief. This is exactly why you don't bring in a desk jockey who only ever pushed pens!"
He was a Mixed Nuts employee, so he did what he was told.
Orange King's feelings were probably complicated, but viewers loved it.
— LOL
— lmaooooo
— Going all the way
— U mad bruh?
— No field experience~
— BornToB lmaooo
— So funny lmaooo
At this point, Almond approached. "Orange King?"
His gentle smile looked almost as if he were trying to comfort Orange King, but that was just an illusion caused by his good looks.
Almond held up two fingers. "For the second lesson..."
It had definitely been a quiz before. Now, it had changed to a lesson.
"Contract with the most skilled first."
— lmaooooo
— Giving advice HERE??
— LESSON TIME
— LOL
— Petty follow-through
— lmaooooo
— The student and teacher have completely reversed lmaooo
Orange King raised his head in disbelief. "Wh-what was the first lesson?"
"Check your parachute in the airship."
— lmaooooo fr that was it??
— It was a quiz before lmaooo
— Quiz became a lesson!
— Ah... the nearly-sealed Smart Young Man has broken free again...
The atmosphere of Almond becoming dominant again prompted a donation.
Ba-bam!
[Factose has donated 10,000 won.]
[Orange King... you're responsible for this. Take him down with you]
— lmaooo fr
— You're unleashing the Smart Young Man AGAIN??
— Almond really doesn't care lmaooo
— lmaooooo
— Unleashed the Smart Young Man and can't seal him back? Atone with your life
— There's something ominous inside him... you weren't supposed to let him out!!
Coach Choi Sa-Rang had suppressed the Smart Young Man’s energy through the nickname change, but now it quietly seeped back out.
'Damn. What am I supposed to do?'
In turn, an aura of despair began to surround Orange King.
'Of all the things to run into, a team that contracted an assassin first in this rank.'
Was that common at this tier? Orange King didn't know. He had almost no information about low ranks. To begin with, this rank range was outside his area of interest. Wasn't this the tier where one simply climbed by winning without needing to know anything?
'The problem is our team is also composed of natives from this rank...'
No, those two anomalies effectively came from even further below.
Orange King looked around at the faces surrounding him.
"Hehehehe..."
"Teeheehee!"
In his imagination, the sinister troll twin spirits of Bubblegum and BornToB were laughing at him.
'Damn... damn!'
Orange King scrunched his face. Their presence nullified every plan and piece of common sense.
'That's not all.'
The worst of them was looking down from above, orchestrating everything. This handsome man, the axis of evil, was... Almond.
'Exactly when did you start thinking you understood LIL?'
Almond had stopped treating Orange King as a teacher and now acted like Orange King didn't understand LIL. What possible strategy could win with these people?
Orange King grabbed his head and cried out in anguish, "Ughhh... EMERGENCY!!"
— Insane energy
— What the heck
— That bad??
— Suddenly face-down shouting EMERGENCY lmaooo
— His head is probably in emergency mode lmaooo
— LOL
Orange King's suffering rang out live.
Whoosh.
A new member joined the waiting room.
"Ah~ everyone was here~. Thanks for the invite, Lord~."
Although the coach told Lemon to practice alone, she heard that Orange King was teaching Almond. The two trolls had also reached out to her just now.
"Orange King~ I wanted to learn too, so I came~."
'You wanted to learn?'
Orange King hadn't heard those words in a while and looked up. "Learn? From me?"
Was there still someone who... recognized him as a teacher?
"Yes. You're totally top tier, aren't you? Hehe." Lemon smiled innocently as if it were the most obvious thing.
'Not anymore...'
Orange King tried to deny it. "I j-just finished 9th place, though."
Lemon tilted her head and asked as if it were equally obvious, "Hm? That's just bad luck. Isn’t Survival mode a trashy luck-based game? And it was 9th, not 10th."
Orange King finally remembered.
'Right.'
This game did involve some luck, unlike Siege mode.
"Skilled players still average out over multiple games, right? Black Tea sis always says that."
Click!
Orange King stood back up. "Almond."
"... Yes?"
Thud!
He put his hand on Almond's shoulder and glared. "I will PROVE IT! That I can be a teacher!!"
"... You already are a teacher?"
"LIIIIIIIIIE!!!"
Almond turned his head away as his eardrums nearly ruptured.
— lmaooooooo
— The speakers are breaking LOL
— HAHAHA
— Speaker crackling
"But why are you giving ME lessons!?"
'That was just for content.'
Almond had only said it as part of the stream.
"And why! Did you say I don't understand LIL!! DUMB YOUNG MAAAAN!!"
"???"
Almond had never said that.
— LOL
— When did that happen??
— lmaooooo
— He's hearing things now
— That's what he said to himself~
Almond felt baffled.
'He's gotten all fired up.'
Orange King was serious now. There was no reason not to go along with it.
"Well, we're still at 1-1. Let's just go straight to the next game."
— 1-1 lmaooo
— Was this a contest??
— lmaooooo
— Almond's first game was a win and second game was a loss, so that's right, isn't it lmaooo
"Fine! It’s a perfect five-person party..." Orange King nodded and pressed the matchmaking button.
Bang!
"I'll give you the third lesson."
[Match Found!]
Was it because of that bold declaration?
"Oh. Why did the queue pop so fast? This is clearly a divine sign to quickly prove myself again?"
The queue had instantly filled. Orange King tried to find meaning in this.
Lemon exposed the truth. "That's because it's a five-person party~."
"... Hm?"
‘Wait, a five-person party makes it a completely different game mode!? Oh no.'
Orange King finally realized it and looked at Almond, who grinned at him.
He felt a chill run down his spine and had no choice but to admit it, if only internally.
‘What a Smart Young Man...’
