Chapter 643: Chapter 463: Karachi’s Visit and Plot

Early morning.

The thin mist had not yet dissipated, carrying a hint of early winter’s chill.

The dining hall was quiet, save for the soft clinking of cutlery against porcelain plates.

Moonlight was curled up and fast asleep on the softest rug before the fireplace. Its ears twitched occasionally, and the snowy-white tip of its tail swept unconsciously across the floor.

Lightning was sprawled out beside it, sleeping on its back with its soft belly exposed, a faint rumble coming from its throat.

"My Lord."

The dining hall door was pushed open, and Alex strode in.

"Sit and talk."

Raylo lifted his chin, gesturing toward the empty seat across from him.

"Yes, my Lord."

Alex did not stand on ceremony. He pulled out the chair and sat down, but his back remained ramrod straight.

"There’s news from Captain Ed."

Alex retrieved a wax-sealed letter from his coat and presented it with both hands.

"He led the Griffin Knights and Pegasus Knights and has successfully cornered the main force of the Blood Hand Robbery Gang."

"What are the casualties?"

"Our losses are minimal," Alex replied.

"Captain Ed, bearing your Regent’s writ, mobilized the armies of more than ten nearby lords. Leveraging their aerial superiority, they employed a divide-and-conquer tactic and repelled three of the Blood Hand Robbery Gang’s breakout attempts. The gang’s main force is now pinned down in the Black Wolf Valley area, with no hope of escape."

"And the leader of the Blood Hand Robbery Gang, the one they call ’Blood Hand,’ Charold?" Raylo asked.

"He’s still in the valley, putting up a desperate resistance. However, Captain Ed says he can have them all annihilated within three days. He also took the opportunity to wipe out seven smaller robbery gangs affiliated with the Blood Hand Robbery Gang and seized a great deal of plunder."

Raylo nodded.

’He had always trusted Ed’s competence. Giving him free rein to lead this time clearly wasn’t a mistake.’

These robbery gangs roaming the Duchy were like lice on one’s skin—not fatal, but endlessly irritating.

The Blood Hand Robbery Gang was especially vicious, specifically targeting merchant caravans. Allowing them to run rampant would have severely impacted the trade and stability of the Black Stone Territory.

Now, thanks to the Duchy’s swift response, this cancer was about to be excised before it could truly fester.

"Give him free rein," Raylo said.

"Tell him I only want to see results."

"Understood," Alex replied in a low voice.

Just then, the sound of urgent footsteps came from outside the dining hall.

A Personal Guard appeared hurriedly at the door.

"My Lord!"

Raylo’s brow furrowed slightly.

"What is it?"

"Outside the camp... a secret envoy has arrived."

The Knight panted, struggling to keep his voice steady.

"He claims to be from the Fiery Sun Kingdom."

’Fiery Sun Kingdom?’

"How many people did he bring?" Raylo asked, his voice devoid of any emotion.

"Only two," the Knight answered.

"One envoy, and one attendant."

Raylo was silent for a moment.

He set down his cutlery, wiped the corner of his mouth with a napkin, and then stood up.

"Take them to the reception room."

He glanced at Alex.

"You come too."

"Yes, my Lord."

When Raylo entered the reception room, the two guests from the Fiery Sun Kingdom were already waiting inside.

The one in the lead wore a wide, black cloak, his hood pulled down low, shrouding his entire face in shadow and obscuring his features.

Behind him stood another cloaked attendant, silent and still. His posture was upright and his aura contained, clearly a formidable expert.

Raylo’s gaze swept over the two of them.

"You have both come a long way. What business brings you here?"

Raylo walked to the head of the table but did not sit down immediately, instead getting straight to the point.

The lead envoy stirred slightly.

He raised a hand and slowly removed his hood.

Underneath the hood, however, was a face Raylo never expected to see.

The King of the Fiery Sun Kingdom, Karachi.

The moment he saw the man’s face, Raylo’s pupils contracted sharply.

Behind him, Alex instinctively placed a hand on the hilt of his sword, his muscles tensing in an instant like a cheetah poised to strike.

’The monarch of a kingdom, personally disguised as an envoy to secretly infiltrate the territory of his arch-nemesis. This was simply unheard of!’

Karachi seemed to pay no mind to Alex’s hostility, his gaze fixed solely on Raylo.

"Count Raylo, it has been a while."

His voice was a bit hoarse.

Raylo’s expression quickly returned to calm after his initial shock.

He waved a hand, signaling for Alex to relax.

Then, looking at Karachi, the corners of his mouth curved into a playful arc.

"Your Majesty, King Karachi. This play of yours is quite unexpected."

He turned to the side and made a welcoming gesture.

"Please, sit. I imagine that for His Majesty the King to personally take such a great risk to come here, the matter must not be simple."

A bitter smile appeared on Karachi’s face.

He sat in the chair opposite Raylo. The attendant behind him remained as still as a statue.

"Count Raylo, we are ’old friends,’ so I won’t beat around the bush."

Karachi kept his voice low.

"I came this time to ask you... for a favor."

"A favor?"

Raylo raised an eyebrow.

From his coat, Karachi took out a sheepskin scroll bound with golden thread and placed it on the table.

A complex emblem was branded onto the scroll.

A Holy Sword and a Fiery Sun.

The Light Holy See!

Raylo’s gaze instantly sharpened.
