The Diggers suddenly stopped attacking.
For several seconds, the battlefield became strangely quiet.
The Sentinels stationed along the walls continued aiming their weapons at the machines, while the survivors inside the shelter watched in confusion as the massive mechanical creatures stood motionless before the Advanced Barrier.
Their drill-shaped heads were still spinning, throwing up clouds of dust and debris, but none of them attempted another attack.
Then the main gates of the Codebreakers Shelter slowly opened.
A figure emerged from within...
Atom had arrived.
The S-Grade Sentinel walked forward without any hesitation, leaving the shelter’s gates behind him as the Advanced Barrier continued to protect the place...
Atom did not carry a firearm, nor did it possess any visible weapon in its hands. Its body alone was the weapon.
Although Kai was not currently inside the Codebreakers Shelter, Atom remained under his command. However, Kai had already established a hierarchy of authority that allowed several trusted individuals to issue orders in his absence, and Althea was one of them.
"Eliminate the Diggers," she said. "Do not allow them to damage the barrier any further."
Atom then turned its attention back toward the battlefield.
At the same time, the Diggers finally began moving again. This time, however, the machines had stopped attacking the barrier...
They had already identified Atom as a hostile target, and they immediately redirected themselves toward him.
The first one swiftly charged.
Its drill-shaped head began spinning at an incredible speed as its mechanical legs pushed its heavy body forward.
Whoosh~
The ground shook as the machine accelerated rapidly despite its massive size.
However, Atom did not move.
The Digger continued charging until it was only a few meters away!
Then Atom raised one hand.
The Digger’s drill slammed into his palm.
CLANG!
The sound was so loud that everyone nearby instinctively flinched.
For a moment, the machine appeared to have succeeded.
Its enormous drill continued spinning violently against Atom’s hand!
Everyone was shocked as they saw sparks flying in every direction as the weapon attempted to tear through the black metal of its body.
Atom, however, remained completely motionless.
The Digger’s entire body was pushed forward by the force of its own attack, yet Atom didn’t take even a single step backward.
The difference between them became obvious almost immediately.
The Digger was a B-Grade unit... while Atom was an S-Grade Sentinel.
There was simply too much of a gap between them.
Atom’s fingers slowly closed around the rotating drill.
The mechanical weapon suddenly stopped.
The Digger’s entire body continued pushing forward, its internal engines roaring as they attempted to generate enough power to free the drill from Atom’s grip.
It was useless!
Atom tightened his hand and then...
CRACK!
A metallic fracture appeared across the Digger’s drill.
The machine immediately attempted to retreat, but Atom had already taken hold of its massive body.
Then, he lifted the B-Grade machine from the ground!
The Digger weighed several tons, but Atom didn’t seem to care.
He swung the machine sideways and slammed it into the ground.
BOOM!
The impact shook the surrounding area.
The Digger’s armored body bounced once before crashing into the dirt, leaving a deep crater beneath it. Its mechanical limbs twitched violently as its internal systems attempted to recover.
The people watching from the shelter were stunned.
The B-Grade Diggers had been powerful enough to damage the Advanced Barrier.
Yet in front of Atom, one of them had been defeated in a matter of seconds.
"That’s Atom..."
Wallace stared at the battlefield.
He had seen Atom in action before, but seeing the S-Grade Sentinel fight without a weapon was an entirely different experience.
The other Diggers seemed to reach the same conclusion.
They immediately changed their strategy.
Instead of attacking individually, the remaining machines spread out.
Several of them rushed toward Atom from different directions, while the others continued attacking the Advanced Barrier.
Apparently, their objective had not changed.
They wanted to destroy the shelter.
Atom’s head turned slightly... It had already calculated the situation.
Five Diggers were moving toward him.
The remaining machines were continuing their assault on the barrier.
[ Target priority updated. ]
Atom suddenly disappeared.
Several Sentinels watching from the walls widened their eyes.
They had not even seen him move.
A moment later, one of the Diggers attacking the barrier suddenly stopped.
Atom had appeared directly behind it.
The S-Grade Sentinel reached forward and grabbed the machine by the back of its armored body before violently pulling it away from the barrier.
Bam!
The Digger immediately responded.
Its drill spun rapidly as it attempted to turn around and attack Atom.
However, Atom simply moved its head to the side.
The drill passed harmlessly beside him and just like that, Atom’s fist struck the Digger’s body.
BOOM!
The sound was closer to an explosion than a punch.
The Digger was sent flying across the battlefield with its armored body rolling several times before crashing into another machine.
Crash!
The two B-Grade units collided violently.
Nonetheless, Atom was already moving again... Another Digger attempted to intercept him.
But this time, Atom didn’t dodge as it saw the drill coming...
Thud!
The drill struck his black armor.
But to everyone’s surprise, the Digger’s weapon stopped.
Atom didn’t even get a scratch as it grabbed the Digger’s drill with both hands.
The Digger’s mechanical body immediately began struggling.
But soon, the machine’s entire front section was ripped apart!
Soon, all the remaining Diggers moved as they surrounded
Even though they knew Atom was an S-Grade Sentinel, the Diggers were still B-Grade machines, and there were dozens of them surrounding the shelter.
If they attacked together, even a powerful enemy could potentially be overwhelmed.
Atom, however, did not appear concerned...
The S-Grade Sentinel showed the difference in their strength!
Atom alone destroyed any Diggers that were surfacing on the ground.
However, as the battle continued, the Diggers started behaving strangely.
They were no longer trying to destroy the barrier.
They had stopped attacking the shelter entirely.
Instead, they were spreading out around Atom.
"What are they doing?" Wallace asked.
Althea didn’t answer immediately as she watched the machines carefully.
Something was wrong.
Then, Althea’s expression changed.
"Everyone, retreat!"
