Global Lords: My Territory Heart Is a World Tree
Chapter 349 - 19: Cleanup (Part 3)Chapter 349: Chapter 19: Cleanup (Part 3)
The doctor let out a scream. Amid his hysteria, Lei Zhou, the man he held at knifepoint, opened his eyes. He then unleashed a bolt of lightning at the audacious man. The powerful current surged through the doctor’s body. He only had time for one last scream before his life was extinguished.
"Who was he?" Lei Zhou asked Li Hua, a look of confusion on his face.
’Weren’t our squad just fighting Li Hua? How did I end up being used as a hostage against him in the blink of an eye?’
"Hehehe, the man you were supposed to meet!" Li Hua chuckled gleefully.
"Damn it!" Lei Zhou spat. He closed his eyes to quietly recuperate. ’Since Li Hua hasn’t killed me, he probably won’t. Getting captured as an Extraordinary Being just means being sent on some dangerous missions. It’s still better than being dead.’
Afterward, Li Hua and Lin Yu emerged from the forest. Amidst the crowd, they saw more than a dozen other people marked in red.
They were currently fighting two members of the Corps. The physical abilities of these people surpassed those of ordinary humans. Although they were no match for the two rookie Corps members individually, by ganging up on them, they managed to fight to a standstill.
Moreover, several of them revealed mutated arms. Their arms had been parasitized by Eye Demons, which were now mimicking weapons like swords and blades, relentlessly striking at the two Corps members.
"Get back!"
Li Hua roared at the sight. The Corps members instinctively leaped back as several flashes of sword light swept past. The parasitized individuals surrounding them were sliced in half at the waist before disintegrating into fragments.
The surrounding crowd had already retreated far from the battlefield. But seeing Li Hua’s incredible display of power, they immediately swarmed forward as if they had found their pillar of strength.
Although they didn’t know exactly what was going on, the sight of people brazenly attacking Cuiwei Corps personnel told them this was no simple matter.
Besides, these attackers had seemed like ordinary people just like everyone else moments before, yet they had revealed inhuman abilities in battle, which was extremely suspicious.
"Stop!"
Seeing the crowd surging forward, Lin Yu quickly intervened. The chain-like vines behind him rose high into the air, and the crowd came to an abrupt halt.
Seizing the opportunity, Lin Yu maneuvered his vines to snatch several more marked individuals from the crowd.
"What are you doing? I’m a normal person! I haven’t been mutated!"
"Help!!"
"The Corps’ Extraordinary Beings have gone crazy!!"
The bound captives screamed in terror, proclaiming their innocence.
Lin Yu maneuvered his vines to strip off their clothes, but strangely, he found no obvious signs of parasitism on their bodies.
"Strange. What happened to you in Black Salt City? Tell me."
"Nothing happened! We were just trying to escape the Eye of the Celestial God. They were randomly grabbing people for their ’divine bestowal,’ so we ran and hid here."
"Yeah, we’re all just refugees!"
"Fine. If you don’t want to talk, then don’t."
Lin Yu directed a vine to enter their bodies through their mouths. ’If the parasites can attach to the outside, maybe they can be inside, too. I’ll check for internal signs of parasitism. After all, the IFF Gene Scanner is never wrong.’
Sure enough, once the vine was inside their bodies, Lin Yu found the anomaly. In their throats, a massive parasitic Eye Demon had taken the place of their windpipes.
"Impressive!"
Lin Yu mentally gave the IFF Gene Scanner a thumbs-up. ’The ads weren’t lying after all. As long as a genetic signature is on record, the scanner can find it no matter how it hides.’
’With this, we don’t have to worry about the Eye Demon infestation getting out of control.’
...
「At the GS16-F223 intersection.」 Members of the Eye of the Celestial God had already broken through and dismantled the roadblock.
The civilians who had been blocking the intersection were now huddled to the side, trembling.
The moment the alarm sounded, all the members of the Eye of the Celestial God scattered like a startled flock of birds. They split into several teams, each grabbing a few ordinary civilians before jumping into vehicles and fleeing in all directions down the highway.
An IFF Gene Scanner belatedly arrived in the sky above. It looked down at the empty intersection, performed a routine scan, transmitted a message, and then returned to Black Salt City.
In space, a large starship quickly received its orders. It immediately flew toward Black Salt City and came to a stop above the GS16-F223 intersection.
The starship then initiated a multi-layered scan. In the wilderness, on the highways, and in the forests, every life form not already tagged by the IFF Gene Scanners was detected.
Then, squadrons of smaller aircraft were dispatched. These vehicles were also equipped with small IFF Gene Scanners. If a scanner detected a red target, the aircraft would eliminate it on the spot.
If a red target was mixed with green targets, the aircraft would disable their vehicle. Soldiers would then manually intervene, attempting to eliminate the dangerous target while ensuring the safety of innocent civilians.
If all else failed, the red-marked life form and the green-marked civilians would be eliminated together.
The priority for eliminating red targets was slightly higher than that for protecting green-marked civilians.
There was no helping it. They had only themselves to blame for not staying home and taking proper shelter.
Under the military’s swift assault, the fleeing members of the Eye of the Celestial God were quickly hunted down and killed. A few of the abducted civilians were caught in the crossfire, but the majority survived.
Meanwhile, across the planet—in deserted wildernesses and hidden locations within cities—soldiers appeared.
Carrying various instruments, they expertly dug through the earth, broke through rock faces, and tore down walls, unearthing metal safe houses from all kinds of shelters. They then used special equipment to breach these scan-proof safe houses.
The sudden appearance of unscannable dead zones during the precision scans was, in itself, a clear indication that something was amiss.
The soldiers then carefully scanned everyone they pulled from the safe houses. Anyone found to be compromised was executed on the spot. Those who were clear were temporarily detained, pending further investigation.
The soldiers also discovered several empty safe houses. As long as these were confirmed to be unregistered, all of their contents were immediately confiscated, which incidentally provided a nice boost to Cuiwei Star’s revenue.
The safe house where Marcus was hiding also received a visit from soldiers, ready to open their next "blind box."
With a high-pitched SCREECH of cutting metal, the hidden entrance was violently forced open.
A professional trap-disposal robot then entered the corridor. Under the robot’s expert touch, the dense web of traps lining the passage was dismantled, the components laid out neatly on both sides like cuts of meat from a professionally butchered cow.
Next, a fully armed, Extraordinary-class robot marched into the corridor. The sounds of a fierce battle erupted from the secret chamber at the far end.
And so Marcus, the man who had stirred up so much chaos on Cuiwei Star and dreamed of becoming an Eye Demon Overlord, died unceremoniously in his secret chamber. Only his corpse was carried out, sent on its way to Experimentation Center No. 3.
The very source of the Eye Demon plague on Cuiwei Star would be disassembled and sliced into pieces. The laboratory would study every fragment of his body and every strand of his genetic code until there was absolutely nothing left to analyze.
