Global PvP Tower: I Can Infinitely Merge My Units
Chapter 80: Giving Everything"I earned sixty-two thousand Tier Points in Star Hunters. I can buy one already." Logan muttered. "I can get more after the next game."
He didn’t want to waste time in this regard. His priority just became getting his parents to become players.
Daniel and Helen looked at each other. It would be wrong to say that they were not thrilled about this.
They had envied players, wishing they could also be powerful and create a better life for their children.
But now, Logan was the one creating it for them.
"Mom, Dad. You’ll become players soon." Logan grinned.
Daniel and Helen were all smiles.
"Thank you, son."
"We are really blessed to have you."
Logan shook his head. "I’m blessed to have you. Everything I am today is because of you. I worked hard because I saw you working even harder. I never gave up, because you also never did."
"I promise you, we will overcome whatever comes our way together."
Garen laughed. "That’s right. That’s the spirit. We are also included in this together."
Isolde smiled. "Until Logan can buy the pills, we will increase your foundation and teach you some basics."
"That said, cough..." Garen looked at Elder Rishin. "Would you please evaluate Logan? We are fairly sure he will impress you."
Elder Rishin looked at Logan. "Display me your class first."
As soon as he finished speaking, Elder Rishin vanished and appeared some thirty meters away.
"Come here. Use your skills on me. Unless your class is production-type, show me what it does."
Logan smiled as his Grimlord’s Blade appeared. A light flick count as a swing made him vanish as Reaper’s Stride put him in front of the elder.
He had put the remaining six skill points into Reaper’s Stride, increasing its Speed bonus per stack a bit more, and increased the distance of instant teleport to anywhere within a 60-meter radius.
"My class is called Axiom Blade Grimlord."
"This one is called Reaper’s Stride."
Logan directly showed its skill status to him.
```
[ Reaper’s Stride ]
Type: Passive.
Level: 7
Effect:
-> Every swing of the blade grants a blink to anywhere within a sixty-meter radius. Every landed strike adds a stacking Speed bonus of 7%, with no upper limit.
```
Rishin didn’t so much as blink at the sudden closing of distance. He looked at the panel floating between them with the same mild curiosity someone might give a menu at a restaurant they’d already decided not to order from.
"A gap closer built on top of a stacking passive." He said it plain, no judgment attached either way. "Common enough shape for a blade-user. Show me another."
Logan didn’t let the lack of reaction throw him off. If anything, it settled something in his own chest, a challenge finally worth taking seriously instead of just another fight he already knew the outcome of.
Grimlord’s Blade!
"Swing at me, senior," Logan said, wanting to show off Blade Veil Counter properly.
He swung, and Elder Rishin actually moved, stepping half a pace to the side without seeming to hurry at all, the strike passing through empty air where his shoulder had been a heartbeat earlier. Right after, he swung one palm, and a simple blue projectile shot free from it.
"Blade Veil Counter."
Logan called it out as the veil snapped into place around himself instead, catching the counter-strike Rishin sent back at him in the same motion, the damage boost already threading into his next swing before Rishin had even fully registered the attempt.
Something flickered behind the old man’s eyes. Not surprise exactly. Closer to interest.
"You read that faster than I expected." Rishin’s tone hadn’t changed, but the words themselves carried a weight the earlier ones hadn’t. "Again. Show me the rest."
Overgrim Slash!
The dark arc tore free of the blade, and Rishin caught it on two fingers, the same two that had been resting together against his own knee a minute earlier, stopping ninety percent Omni-Defense Penetration cold like it was nothing more than a thrown pebble.
Logan’s breath caught despite himself.
’He just... stopped it. With two fingers.’
Logan showed the skill’s status window.
"Level ten." Rishin turned the slash over between those same two fingers like he was inspecting a piece of fruit, then let it dissolve into nothing at all. "Use your all and come at me with the intent to kill. Don’t stop."
Logan grinned and excitedly went all out.
But in the following minute, it was a one-sided slaughter.
Logan never managed to touch even a hair of Elder Rishin, while every time he attacked, he found himself on the ground a second later.
In the first half of that minute, his own morale started dropping a little, looking up at that same calm and cold gaze every time his back hit stone again, every attack proving completely futile.
He erased that feeling as soon as it showed up.
’Be steadfast. He told me to give my all. If I don’t do that, I’m a failure.’
Time passed.
After five minutes of going all out, getting knocked down constantly, and giving his all, Logan’s body was screaming, and yet, his mind was absorbed in this activity of attacking Elder Rishin, his will driving him to give his all for this task.
His Speed broke straight through its own previous limit.
His whole body crackled with it.
Wind raged across the entire peak with every movement and swing he made.
Isolde and Garen watched him grow stronger by the second as the fight dragged on, until they had to raise a barrier of their own just to protect everyone else on the peak from the shockwaves and residual force rolling off Logan’s blade.
Reaper’s Stride had stacked its Speed bonus all the way to 35,238%, climbing seven percent with every connecting strike.
He’d only actually connected one strike out of every several dozen attempts every second, with the real goal being just one landed hit before the stack could decay, a requirement of one strike every five seconds. He connected 5,034 times across those five minutes.
"Logan..." Helen’s lips trembled, her eyes fixed on her son, his body ravaged by his own power, screaming with every motion. They could not see him at all. They could only see thick flashes of red speeding around stationary Elder Rishin.
They knew it was his blood.
Isolde and Garen could see clearly, and they saw the blaze in his eyes, an unshakable determination burning like a sun.
His parents couldn’t see that, but they could certainly feel the determination of their son.
Through the entire one-sided battle, Elder Rishin never moved a single step from where he stood.
He only moved his hand, with Logan barely managing to connect his sword once every four or five seconds to stack Reaper’s Stride. Sometimes, he connected more.
Every other time, Elder Rishin swung his palm just ahead of Logan’s own strike, releasing a vacuum in the shape of a blade from the motion, deflecting him before following with enough pressure to put him right back on the ground.
But for the past minute, Logan hadn’t fallen once.
He was holding off that fall against Rishin’s gentle, oppressive swings almost entirely on the strength of his current Speed, and the rhythm he found and started riding.
He’d lost himself in the fight, deliberately, and then completely, giving everything he had to this one moment of throwing himself at Elder Rishin without holding anything back.
But he’d hit his limit, even if his mind and will hadn’t.
CRAACK! CRAACK! CRAACK! CRAACK! CRAACK!
Logan swung another strike, and this time a series of cracks resonated through his whole body, his limbs mangling under the strain, throwing him across the peak like a ragdoll, moving too fast to track as he was out of sight, and already falling.
His Mythic gears shattered outright, having reached their own limit.
One second, Logan’s whole world was white and focused, full of power as he attacked, thrilled about getting improved as he fought.
The next, his consciousness slammed shut, and he dropped into darkness.
All of it from the backlash of his own power.
Elder Rishin vanished.
He reappeared just as fast, Logan already floating in the air in front of him, and lowered him into the pond, submerging him completely.
"I like his spirit." Elder Rishin looked toward Logan’s parents. "His whole body is broken. Essentially, he died, but only for one second. Don’t worry. He’s completely fine."
The worry and fright plain on his parents’ faces had prompted the explanation.
Garen and Isolde, meanwhile, were overjoyed.
Elder Rishin sat back down across from them at the hut.
"Alright. Let’s finish eating, so the rest of you can head back. I’ll return with Logan in three days. Whether he can adapt to my sword art and awaken the Talent it requires depends entirely on his own effort over those three days."
"Thank you, senior!"
"Thank you!"
Isolde and Garen bowed. Seeing them do it, Logan’s parents bowed and thanked him as well.
Afterward, the group ate.
Vina, full of energy despite everything she’d just watched, kept pestering Elder Rishin the whole time.
What surprised Garen and Isolde was how gently he indulged her.
They could tell he was seeing someone else in her, some echo of a past neither of them knew the details of, his family, his own history, and neither dared to ask.
After eating, the group headed back, leaving Logan behind to his fate.
Whether he benefited from this encounter or not depended entirely on him now.
