[ Summon: Production Unit ]

Cost: 100 Tower Points

Five more lights, five more shapes.

A small green sprite no taller than his knee immediately started climbing the nearest wood pile, tiny hands already sorting planks by size.

[ Woodwright Sprite (Tier-1/Normal) Summoned ]

A stubby gray golem with stone dust for skin knelt down and started running its fingers through the quarried stone, humming something almost like satisfaction.

[ Stonemason Golem (Tier-1/Normal) Summoned ]

Something small and quick-fingered with too many pockets in its patchwork coat immediately reached for the mounted crossbows to poke at the mechanisms.

[ Tinker Gremlin (Tier-1/Uncommon) Summoned ]

A round, warm-looking creature with an actual small hearth built into its back settled near the Minions and started fanning its own coals. "I can make good food."

[ Hearth Warden (Tier-1/Uncommon) Summoned ]

The last one looked like a tangle of living roots shaped roughly like a person, and it immediately set to work weaving loose vines into the gaps in the corridor walls, tightening them without being asked.

[ Root Weaver (Tier-1/Normal) Summoned ]

Ten units. No Epic, not this time, but he hadn’t really expected one.

Logan looked over what he had. Ten new summons, plus Billy, plus four Minions eating their way back to full strength.

Six corridors needed six sets of hands, and right now he had more units than he needed just to hold the line, and not enough that were actually strong.

He opened Boundless Genesis.

The Spear Guardian and the Iron Buckler were both solid, both plain, both exactly the kind of unit that wouldn’t matter much on its own against a real wave of Undead.

Together, they might.

He picked both, and gold light wrapped around them the way it always did.

[ Merge Complete ] Spear Guardian (Tier-1/Normal) + Iron Buckler (Tier-1/Normal) > Bulwark Pikeman (Tier-1/Uncommon) Created

What stood there when the light cleared carried a shield in one hand and a spear twice as long as before in the other, a wall and a weapon in the same body.

Logan looked it over, satisfied.

Next, Production Units. They were just as important as combat units.

Each production unit had skills that could reinforce the base in various ways, increase overall combat power, or create things, as long as they were given the materials. They could serve in combat too, in a pinch, but none of them had a single combat-oriented skill between them. Weak, if it came down to that.

Level 1 Stonemason Golem had two skills. The first could reinforce his walls with stone skin, increasing their defence by 500. The second could raise entirely new Stone Walls, which carried 500 more defence than the wooden ones.

Level 1 Woodwright Sprite rolled lucky on its first skill, an Uncommon-grade ability sitting on a Normal-rank unit. It was passive, and it could enchant wood to raise its quality by one grade, all the way up to Rare-grade. The second skill was a combat-production skill, one that could create a Poison Box with a paralysing effect, and it could conjure a base version of that box without needing any materials at all.

The base poison only worked on Normal-quality monsters, not much against anything stronger. For something that could trouble an Uncommon-quality target, the Sprite would need to cultivate Hisfoil Grass on a small plot first. That was a problem for another night.

Logan set the Golem and the Sprite to work first, reinforcing the walls and mixing up a batch of Poison Boxes while he still had the minutes to spare.

He commanded the other Production units and the Tower Minions to start dipping the crossbow bolts into the Poison Boxes that Woodwright Sprite had made, giving every stone arrow a coat of poison before it went back into the rack.

’I’ll need Tower Minions anyway. Might as well summon two more right now and put all six of them on the cranks.’

He did exactly that in the next five seconds, watching two more shapes rise out of the circle and roll straight toward the empty stations.

There was no visible countdown left on his screen, so he counted the minutes himself instead. He wanted this quest cleared without losing a single summon, and for the first time since Awakening, that actually felt possible.

’Merge!’

[ Merge Complete ] Tinker Gremlin (Tier-1/Uncommon) + Root Weaver (Tier-1/Normal) > >Tinker Brambell (Tier-1/Uncommon) Created

~~~
Something small and quick stood where the two of them had been, a wiry frame of living root wound through with salvaged bits of metal, gears and vine-fiber tangled together like it couldn’t decide which one it was.
[ Skills ]
> Tinker Boost (Uncommon): Reinforce any combat-oriented product, increasing its Attack and Defence by 20%.
> Weaving Inventor (Rare): When given random materials, it can invent something. It could be useful, or completely useless. Only Rare-rank or lower materials work.
This one only had two skills even after the merge, but one of them was Rare-rank.
"Alright, reinforce all the crossbows, little fellow. Quick." Logan gave the order without wasting a second.
Then he checked his MP without meaning to.
MP: 501/1500
Two merges, a thousand MP gone in the span of a few minutes.
’I’ll need mana to help my summons. But this is just the first day. The main quest shouldn’t be this hard for long.’
That settled it. No more merging until he cleared the main quest, not with Safe Haven alone costing five hundred a cast at minimum.
He put his five unassigned stat points into Arcane instead, raising his max MP by five hundred.
’If I remember right, a level 2 Territory Core Healing Area can recover mana too. Something like five a second.’
He didn’t hesitate.
[ -500 Tower Points ] [ Territory Core Healing Area reached Level 2 ]
He looked over what remained. Stone Fist Brawler, Thistleblade Ranger, Bulwark Pikeman, the Frostmaw Direwolf, Stonemason Golem, Woodwright Sprite, Tinker Brambell, Hearth Warden, and Billy. Six Tower Minions, one at each crank.
That was enough. It would have to be.
"Billy, take the point facing the clearing, and bring the wolf with you. You’re the strongest and highest level here, so I need you where the fighting’s worst." Logan said it fast, already moving. "Pikeman, Brawler, split east and west. Thistleblade, hang back and cover whichever corridor looks the roughest."
He kept the rest close to the core. Stonemason Golem and Woodwright Sprite stood ready to patch any wall that cracked, and Tinker Brambell crouched beside the nearest crossbow with a bundle of freshly poisoned bolts stacked at its feet.
Hearth Warden was already working. She had two skills, both built around cooking. She could prepare a meal from any ingredient Uncommon-rank or lower and turn it into a buff, and every dish had a one in five chance of coming out better than expected, doubling the buff’s duration from fifteen minutes to thirty.
Every Tower Minion rolled into place at its crank without complaint this time, meat forgotten, six crossbows aimed down six empty corridors.
"Alright. It should be soon."
Logan finished the last of it himself, stacking three spare walls into a crude triangle and climbing to the top of it for higher ground.
"I’ll be commanding from up here since I can see every direction," he called down. "Be quick and stay sharp, and we all get through this."
Then the panel he’d been waiting for opened.
